2010 Milwaukee Brewers - Pitching: Quantity, or Quality????

Re: 2010 Milwaukee Brewers - Pitching: Quantity, or Quality????

Since there was an off day, JSonline had a blog titled "Should Fielder get $200 million?" What do you guys think? I don't see how he is worth $200 million when you compare him to the following:

Matt Holliday, 30, 7 years, $120 million
Miguel Cabrera, 24, 8 years, $153 million
Mark Teixeira, 29, 8 years, $180 million
Joe Mauer, 26, 8 years, $184 million

He doesnt deserve $200 million, IMO. It would be one thing if he were being productive, but he isnt. He is struggling and not doing much of anything to help the team win.
Unless Fielder gets his act together and soon, Id say the Yankees can have him!

Good lord. The season is seven games old. If you have watched Fielder in any of his seasons, he is a notoriously slow starter. I guarentee by the end of the year he will have 40 homers and 120 RBI, and then you will be complaining he isn't being talked about for MVP. You people need to come down from the ledge and starting thinking rationally.

Hey dont lump me in with him...i was just asking what we should be happy with for $$/years offer they try to give fielder....I think he's worth Holliday/Cabrera money...

Re: 2010 Milwaukee Brewers - Pitching: Quantity, or Quality????

At least 100 games. He is, and should be, the starting catcher. Its not like he is having bad at-bats. He is getting some bad luck, hitting the ball hard, but right at someone. He has had some web-gems happen against him on more than one occasion. Plus, I have said it before, and I'll say it again, any offense you get from the catcher is a bonus. I want my catcher to call a great game and have solid defense over Joe Mauer-like offense. Do NOT get me wrong....if we had Mauer I would cry tears of joy everyday. But if you are expecting the catcher to produce at the plate, then you have bigger issues with the team.

It's not like he has had a TON of games with any of the pitchers. And even though I want the catcher calling a good game and to have average defense, that's not something I myself can look at and say one is better than another. Obviously not many of our pitchers are having luck no matter who is back there, so I think offense can be considered.

Not only does Zaun not get hits, he hits into double plays, which is even worse.

In what amounts to a ridiculously small sample size thus far, he's third on the team in hits, second in runs scored and is batting .280. Hasn't even homered, which he will plenty of times, and his numbers still aren't that bad. Sure he leads the team in K's and hasn't driven in runs when the opportunity has been there, but the fact that the summation of his production thus far could be considered "struggling" does nothing but speak to how potent he is and can be.

But since were all of seven or eight games into the season, I think you might be on to something.

Good thing this thread doesn't operate on your philosophy, otherwise I could post something like:

It would be one thing if GoBucky36 were being productive, but GoBucky36 isnt. GoBucky36 is struggling and not doing much of anything to help the thread win.
Unless GoBucky36 gets his act together and soon, Id say the Yankees thread can have him!

Oh, and his OBP is .400. Forgot to mention that. I wouldn't even give him to the Yankees. Forget that. I'd just send him to Helena.

oh my god, gregg zaun got a hit

edit: two triples in a row? wow

edit2: zaun's hit was not a triple ;)

Hawkins finally giving up some runs in the 8th. Pity it had to be with 2 outs. He walked two to load the bases and has let in 2.

6-5 Brewers and not out of the woods yet

edit: Indeed. 7-6 Cubs as Hawkins has thrown 34 pitches (and counting) in the 8th

Wait...you guys got Latroy Hawkins?

Re: 2010 Milwaukee Brewers - Pitching: Quantity, or Quality????

Nothing like a ******** gift to a *hitty team. Walking two guys in the 8th up 3 runs is unexcusable.

Re: 2010 Milwaukee Brewers - Pitching: Quantity, or Quality????

That really really sucked. Like, a lot. All with 2 out, too. Gotta get out of the innings, fellas. At least Zaun has a batting average now.

Re: 2010 Milwaukee Brewers - Pitching: Quantity, or Quality????

aw, cheer up guys, Jeff Suppan is pitching today!!!!! :D

Mitch Stetter (?!?!?) sent to Nashville to make room for him.

nice story from the Boston Globe on CC and Mike Cameron, and their time here: http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/articles/2010/04/08/ace_mixed_on_deal/

CC Sabathia spent only three months with the Brewers in 2008 but counts it as some of the most fun he has experienced in baseball.

yeah, we do too. :)

Man, is he ssslllllooooowwwwww....We were at the game Friday night and he was one 1st with the bases loaded and barely got to 3rd, when just about anyone on the team minus Feilder could have tried to score with the pitcher coming up and 2 outs.

Re: 2010 Milwaukee Brewers - Pitching: Quantity, or Quality????

3 hits for Zaun yesterday. I gotta give him props when he does well if I'm going to be on his case.

Hopefully he can convince Suppan not to throw that pitch 3-0 to any more batters this year that he threw to Marlyn Byrd.

Re: 2010 Milwaukee Brewers - Pitching: Quantity, or Quality????

Gotta make some hay by winning the next 2 series against 2 bad teams. It would be a great time for Yo to get on track. If Weeks and whoever hits #2 can keep going they should be able to ride Braun to at least a couple of wins while he's going.

Re: 2010 Milwaukee Brewers - Pitching: Quantity, or Quality????

my deepest apologies for saying I liked the bullpen moves before the season. :p oh well, it's plenty early.

Re: 2010 Milwaukee Brewers - Pitching: Quantity, or Quality????

3-0 Milwaukee, bases loaded, top of 1, no outs (2 hit batsman and a bases loaded walk)

Could be a high-scoring game with Davis going for Milwaukee.

Edit: 4-0 and Zaun with an RBI single

Marquis gets yanked at this point. Ouch.

Edit 2: Counsell with a grand slam and it is 10-0 Milwaukee with one out (Davis got the out with a sac fly)
