2010 Milwaukee Brewers - Pitching: Quantity, or Quality????

Re: 2010 Milwaukee Brewers - Pitching: Quantity, or Quality????

Tough call on Narveson and Parra.

I would agree. I truly beilve that the fifth spot is going to come down to one of these two guys. Of course, with neither having any options left who would you rather have? Purely based on stuff.... Its Parra..... Course on a good day you will be lucky if he can spot his fastball on a plate as big as Monterey Bay. Narveson.... Well he is a realitive unknown. Like I said in a earlier post I think he has pitched well enough to warrant a shot.... Unfortuantely, if you let Parra go somebody is going to grab him which complicates things long term if he pulls a Bush and figures things out.

And Soup coming back and making this a moot point is quite possible. However, he has not been the guy they hoped he would be when they got him. I would chalk it up to the Jeff Weaver playoff effect. Pitch well for three days in October and everyone (including me) loved him. I say at this point they cut their losses.... We got the Supan that pitched for Boston and Pittsburgh..... Not the one that pitched for St. Louis....

http://www.jsonline.com/sports/brewers/89745702.html - Brewers tried to sign Jermaine Dye and also tried to trade Hart to the Nats? Also, Narveson and Parra are starting the season in the bullepn.

SI picked the Brewers 4th in the division - behind St. Louis, Chicago and Cincinnati.

I know it's only exhibition, but I cannot WAIT to get up to Milwaukee tonight to watch the Crew take on the Tigers. Scored some great seats for tonight and tomorrow during their $10 sale. :D

sausage statistics

here's a fun irrelevant stat: we knew the Brewers are the only team that sells more sausages than hot dogs... but did you know they sell more sausages than 22 other teams sell hot dogs?

The <a href="http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/89771437.html">National Hot Dog and Sausage Council</a> (really - and they have a facebook page) predicts Milwaukee will sell 910,000 sausages (4,993,853 overall for baseball).

Top 3 hot dog sellers:
1. Red Sox
2. Cubs
3. Phillies

Awesome. All set up to go to the July 25th game against the Nationals. Bachelor party at Miller Park. I am excited for this bachelor party. Starting the day with a tour of Miller Brewing. I would prefer to start the day touring Leinenkugel's, but alas, that drive is a tad too far. And this is the only game for sure that I know of that I am going to. I am hoping to get to a couple more, at least!

Re: 2010 Milwaukee Brewers - Pitching: Quantity, or Quality????

This game is pretty boring even with my great seats for $10.

Re: 2010 Milwaukee Brewers - Pitching: Quantity, or Quality????

Ditto. At least they hung on for the win. I was hoping for some Hells Bells too.

I have not heard it at Miller Park....I have heard it in San Diego. Ironically, I heard it against the Brewers....but it was actually very cool to hear/see. Even if it meant the Brewers were going to lose. Because, at the time, I never once imagined that Hoffman would ever leave San Diego, much less play for the Crew.

Nice warm-up for the season with a comeback 13-12 win. After listening to the last two I'm ready for Monday.

That is something to be proud of, nearly 20% of the sausages consumed at MLB games will be at Miller Park. As long as the starting pitchers don't give up 20% of the runs scored around the league this team should at least stay in the race late. I was breaking this down and despite no true proven ace I feel OK about the starting pitching.

Gallardo to Gallardo - I figure he'll be at least as good as last year but probably a little better.

Bush to Bush - Probably about a push.

Parra to Parra or Narveson - Overall I expect at least a little improvement

Suppan to Wolf - Should be a huge improvement.

Looper to Davis - Although the number of wins may end of being a push, I expect an improvement in quality with an ERA about 1.5 lower.

Basically, I see at least minor improvement in 4 of the 5 spots in the rotation.

I would say at least minor improvement in 5 of 5 as long as one of them breaks down as:
Suppan to *anyone but Suppan*

You guys gave up like 90 HR in that game and didn't hit any yourselves. Amazing that you won!

Re: 2010 Milwaukee Brewers - Pitching: Quantity, or Quality????

Zumaya opened the door for the Brewers to get back in the game. Had Porcello finished the inning, the Crew would have been done. And then Weinhardt goes and gift wraps the end of the game for the Brewers by bobbling the ball that should have forced Counsell out.

What bothered me most was seeing Corey Hart look lost halfway down the third base line, almost like he couldn't see the first base coach telling him to run home. He stopped to watch the play unfold, then scooted home.

Neither team's bullpens looked lights out, but hopefully it gets corrected early in the season.

I was impressed with the amount of small ball work the team did. And while I know it was DH rules, having Braun-Fielder-Edmonds-McGhee bat 3 through 6 is quite dangerous  Late in a game, I don't think you want to walk any of those guys. How many times did we see teams last year walk Braun and/or Fielder to have McGhee burn them? :D

Re: 2010 Milwaukee Brewers - Pitching: Quantity, or Quality????

Looking forward to my first opening day at Miller Park since the first opening day at Miller Park.

I know this is supposed to be the time for optimism, but for whatever reason, this year I'm just not that bullish on the Brewers. Yes they have upgraded in certain areas, but I still have some nagging doubts.

Casey McGehee-I hope I'm wrong, but when I think of Casey I flash to Pat Listach. I'm just not sold on him. For now I can only attribute his '09 season to the fact that he escaped Cubbie-Hell (wait is that redundant?).

Corey Hart-The only hope for him is that all video of his 2009 season has been deleted and NL pitchers try to throw nothing but fastballs.

Jim Edmonds-Maybe it's me over-reacting, but all this talk of indecision and family matters at home make me wonder if he's really on board for a full major league season. And not everyone can pull a Gabe Kapler.

Prince Fielder-Without a reliable #5 hitter behind him he starts trying to do too much and gets out of his groove.

Ryan Braun-My only "concern" is that he becomes Paul Molitor. Great when he plays, emphasis on the "when". I'm fearing a nagging injury could drag his numbers down. He's had one seemingly each year and now already in spring training he's sat (yes I know it's a precaution, but I'm just sayin').

The pitching staff as a whole-I hope Peterson can maximize their efforts. But for Bush, Gallardo, Villanueva, Coffey, Suppan, Parra, etc this is pitching coach number 4 in the last 3 seasons.

Catchers-WHO'S GOING TO CATCH 140 GAMES SO I CAN BIT#H ABOUT THAT! :D

And yet dispite all that I'll put them down for 80 wins and hope I'm wrong by oh about 12 games ;) .

Play Ball! :)

Re: 2010 Milwaukee Brewers - Pitching: Quantity, or Quality????

Well the brewers started the season with a loss :( hopefully they can rebound and get themselves a win in game 2 against the rockies.

Re: 2010 Milwaukee Brewers - Pitching: Quantity, or Quality????

Hello Brewer fans,

Well opening day has come and gone.... The end result may be a loss but a lot of good came from today.

1. YO was YO. Pitched pretty well and gave them seven strong despite the four runs.

2. The boys didn't forget how to hit. Once again they need to pick up the clutch hit but they hit some atom balls today (including two in the ninth) that may have turned the tide.

3. Narveson pitched well despite giving up a run.

4. Gomez got on base. Now hopefully he won't get pull happy seeing as that he hit a bomb....

All in all many good things out there today.

Okay, the wonder dog is calling... Man, is that guy a worry wort.

Re: 2010 Milwaukee Brewers - Pitching: Quantity, or Quality????

A disappointing start. Hopefully they can bounce back today. Good to see Yo extend his start a little. The 6 inning 125 pitch outings last year were getting a little worrisome. My biggest concern right now is the 5 spot. I'm just not sure I like the lack of protection for Prince.

Re: 2010 Milwaukee Brewers - Pitching: Quantity, or Quality????

Bummer that it's a WMLW game tonight. I understand it's a Bucks conflict, but still, shame something else couldn't be worked out.
