2010 Milwaukee Brewers - Pitching: Quantity, or Quality????

Re: 2010 Milwaukee Brewers - Pitching: Quantity, or Quality????

Coming from a fan of the team that has Prince Fielder.

soh, it's well-known on this thread that the Cardinals have been extremely outspoken about what they perceive to be the Brewers' arrogance and disrespect of other teams, I just thought it's a little, you know, ironic that their superstar would watch a home run.

Counsell cleared waivers?

http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/craig-counsell-open-to-trade-after-reportedly-clearing-waivers.php

Buster Olney of ESPN.com reported earlier this week that Craig Counsell has cleared waivers and the veteran infielder said yesterday that he'd be open to a trade to a contender.

Milwaukee general manager Doug Melvin sought approval from Jim Edmonds before trading him to Cincinnati and Counsell indicated that Melvin discussed a similar possibility with him.

You always know it's possible. We've talked about it. We talked about it last year. We've talked about it this year. We try to keep things upfront. I appreciate it a lot, for sure. I know I'll hear stuff that's important from Doug first. He said people have called but that's it.

As a soon-to-be 40-year-old hitting just .246/.317/.305 in 83 games this season Counsell won't be at the top of any contender's wish list for a stretch-drive pickup, but he's still capable of drawing some walks, getting on base, and providing some defensive versatility in a part-time role.

Counsell told Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that he's leaning toward returning for a 16th season in 2011, but added that the idea of going to a contender is "intriguing" because "as you get older you want to win" and "you don't know how many years you've got left."

598! Yeah Trevor! :D

Hoffman relieves Axford and strikes out Ryan with the bases loaded and St. Louis down by 1 to end the game. Didn't see it, but heard it was a very ugly inning.

dear Brewers, if you could arrange for Trevor to get #600 on August 26, I would be eternally grateful, because I'm going, and that would be pretty cool to see. I can't even imagine the crowd when they play Hells Bells and he's at 599.

Its nice to see the Brew Crew take it to a team like the Cards (especially since my girlfriend and her family are HUGE Cards fans) but its really too little, too late.

Someone hit Pujols in the face yet?

I'm heading to the game tonight with members of my lab. I'm super excited to actually see a Brewers pitcher who isn't actually terrible tonight (Gallardo). I swear for years and years all I would ever get was Wes Obermueller, Jorge de la Rosa, Doug Davis, and in the last few years, Soupan. I don't think I ever saw Sheets or Sabbathia or anyone halfway decent. Last time out I witnessed the horror that was Wolf giving up 5 dingers to the cubs.

Let's go Crew!

Is this even a competition? You can pick a certain number of things that laid the groundwork for the best moment (like opening Miller Park or trading for CC), but I'd like to see anyone's argument against Braun's home run off the Cubs in 2008. :) Weird that they listed the team watching the Marlins beat the Mets as separate, though.

I still can't help but smile every time I see that home run replayed. My favorite part is when they show the guys in the bullpen jumping all over each other. I'm even smiling now, just thinking about it.

They also list the winners from the previous decades -

90s: Robin Yount's 3000th hit
80s: Brewers win the pennant
70s: Aaron's 755th

should be a good one. Fielder and Escobar are both in the lineup and you get to see Lorenzo Cain. I am sorry to report you will not get to see Tony Gwynn, Jr. ;)

It was very ironic. Of course, then one of the mediocre pitchers I used to see all the time comes in and saves the day. At least we won. :)

I'm SO done with Manny Parra. Please send him away. Why not give Capuano a few starts here to see what he's got and send Parra down to the minors and call up someone.

I'm not sure he has any minor league options. I'm pretty much convinced he's not mentally though enough to ever get it, so I understand your frustration.

The issue with the brewers is they trade him and he figures it out...its happen before to the crew :(

And if they did deal him they'd have to sell very low on top of it. Nobody would be crazy enough to give up much of anything for Manny at this point.

Jorge de La Rosa comes immediately to mind. About 5 years ago in an organization always hurting for pitching they gave up on a 24 or 25 year old lefty who had obvious major league stuff. I still don't get that one.

If Parra was any good, you wouldn't trade him, so of course you are going to sell low, but at this point he's doing the Crew no good. I'd rather see someone else get a shot and perform better. This is his 4th pitching coach and 3rd manager he's had with the Crew. No one has been able to get his head screwed on straight. I seriously doubt he ever will. Move on and good luck to him.

Re: 2010 Milwaukee Brewers - Pitching: Quantity, or Quality????

Carlos Gomez would like you to know he's the best center fielder on the Brewers, in case you were wondering. I'm not sure he's wrong, considering they have a rookie and Chris Dickerson as the other options, but it seems a little Sheffieldish to be spouting off about it to the press. I hope Cain proves him wrong.

Re: 2010 Milwaukee Brewers - Pitching: Quantity, or Quality????

Capuano replaces Parra in the starting rotation - it also says they're not going to call up any starting pitchers when rosters expand, but they will call up some relievers.
