2010 Milwaukee Brewers - Pitching: Quantity, or Quality????

Re: 2010 Milwaukee Brewers - Pitching: Quantity, or Quality????

in case you needed more proof on how awesome Trevor is: http://www.jsonline.com/sports/brewers/102496479.html

Mark Concannon <a href="http://onmilwaukee.com/myOMC/authors/markconcannon/concannononhoffman.html">reflects on 600</a> for OMC (try to ignore that he spells "Rickie" wrong ;)).

and HEY - how bout that Capuano? :)

remember Mark Rogers? Looking like he might be added to the roster tomorrow - http://www.jsonline.com/sports/brewers/102497089.html

more on the moron fan that got thrown out by Bob Davidson on Tuesday - http://www.jsonline.com/sports/102501319.html. he keeps saying he didn't swear, as if that's the only offensive thing he could say... guess he considers "homophobic slurs" family-friendly?

Truth must have hurt Yadier's feelings? Spoke ill of his companion Pujols? ;)
Not that there's anything wrong with that...

There are classier ways of taunting, but I did like the fact that the fan was ejected to protect Yadier from escalating the situation. :D What was he gonna do, hit him with his purse?

Re: 2010 Milwaukee Brewers - Pitching: Quantity, or Quality????

Trevor is the classiest athelete I hve seen in years, the way he handled his early season blow-ups and apologizing for it. Class, class guy. Melvin should make him the bullpen coach next year. You need quality guys on the staff like that.

I'd go one step further, make him the pitching coach. But I'm guessing that he will want to be with his boys full-time and not want to move the family. So we're stuck with another remodeled coaching staff.

Re: 2010 Milwaukee Brewers - Pitching: Quantity, or Quality????

Good news everybody, Jeff Suppan really does suck! Although it is funny that in his 10 games with the cardinals, his ERA is better than any individual season with the Brewers and his WHIP is better than 2009 or 2010 as a Brewer.

Finally something to look forward to from the Brewers: the 2011 schedule is out.
http://milwaukee.brewers.mlb.com/sc...mil&m=4&y=2011&partnerId=ed-4106102-157550568

serious lack of potential road trips for me. maybe Philadelphia. I'm going to have to suck it up and start going to hot places soon. :)

still waiting for a Seattle trip.. it's probably going to be a couple years now that we're back to the AL East.

However, I am happy to see they are at home on my birthday, because after this year, it's probably another couple years before I get a birthday game.

why the hell is Opening Day on a Thursday?

So Tues, Sep 21 is Singles Night at Miller Park. Does that mean the Brewers pitching staff is promising not to give up any extra base hits that day? That would be nice.

Hey Dummy, I just tried to send you rep, but got a message from BOARD saying "don't waste your time sending that putz any rep, he's a complete tool." Far be it from me to argue with logic like that.

Then I looked at my rep list to see that you had sent me rep. That's more like it. :D

Hope all is going well with you. I have a few $$$ on the Drunken Cheeseheads this week against the Arid Zona State Sunspots so make sure they win the game or I'll see to it Psychotic Dilbert takes a massive dump on the hood of your car.

Have a good weekend Dummy. :)

I like this run scoring thing they tried that last game in Houston. Hopefully we can see 2 more weeks of that before the Prince Fielder auction begins.

Only 2 weeks left for Prince to fulfill my dream of watching him charge the mound (as a Brewer - it's not going to be as fun if he's with someone else). Please. I don't ask for much. It would be nice if it was Barry Zito, but I'm not going to be too picky. I really thought he was going to do it in Atlanta, but alas.

Who is going to be manager next year, besides not Macha? Today's paper mentioned Bob Melvin.

Who's everyone rooting for to make the playoffs? I'd like to see San Diego (surprise surprise) and have the Wild Card team come from the West.

I'm pulling for Atlanta. Maybe it's just that I want to listen to Don Sutton and Jim Powell on the radio a little longer, since Uecker was out most the year. Those two have a similar style to what Jim and Bob had in Milwaukee. Very casual, as if you're listening to your friends chatter and call the ball game.

Re: 2010 Milwaukee Brewers - Pitching: Quantity, or Quality????

So Lorenzo Cain has started very little since he overslept in Houston, and Carlos Gomez has not been too bad (besides striking out to end the game last night). Any chance they like Gomez in center for next year again? When he actually gets on base, he's more dangerous than Cain, as he's proven several times in the last couple weeks.

Re: 2010 Milwaukee Brewers - Pitching: Quantity, or Quality????

Gomez has so much natural skill he'll never surprise me with what he can do. Unfortunately I'm just not sold on him being consistent enough to be an important part of a winner. He reminds me of more talented version of Alex Sanchez. If they don't think they can put enough together to challenge for a playoff run next season and they didn't have a young guy they need to check out like Cain I'd be all for giving him another year. At this point I'd rather see if Cain can develop. If Hart moves to 1B they'll need to figure out who is going to play RF. I'm not sure Gamel is the answer, but I really don't think a lineup with both Cain and Gomez in the OF would be potent enough.

For the playoffs the only team I really don't like is the Phillies. San Diego is probably my favorite, but I have no problem with the Giants and Bobby Cox has been a good enough guy so seeing him make one more run wouldn't be bad. I can't even dislike Cincy because after they decided putting together a slow pitch softball team wasn't working they've put together a nicely balanced ball club. It would also be nice to show the Cubs fans that it wasn't Dusty since he had success before and after his stop in Chicago. On the AL side since we know who the 4 teams will be I'm only rooting against the Yankees and everyone else is fine.

Re: 2010 Milwaukee Brewers - Pitching: Quantity, or Quality????

Cecil Cooper's base hit in 1982 (you know which one :p) was voted the top moment in team history. Ryan Braun's homer against the Cubs was second. As it should be.

Nice to see the offense show up 2 games in a row.

Mark Rogers makes his first major league start today.

I was a kid but I remember Cooper's hit well. I got to go to 2 of the 3 ALCS games but not game 5 (my stupid brother got that ticket  ).

Legend has it that between pitches during one of the ALCS games Vukovich turned his back to the batter, puked from celebrating the night before, wiped his mouth and continued pitching like nothing happened.

Now that would have gotten my vote. :)

Re: 2010 Milwaukee Brewers - Pitching: Quantity, or Quality????

some good points from jsonline - <a href="http://www.jsonline.com/sports/brewers/103836894.html">Loyal Brewers fans deserve to be rewarded</a>. Is there another losing team with such high attendance, and in such a small market?

Counsell gets the start, Fielder gets a standing O, and Trevor makes an appearance - a nice last home game for the fans. Nice start by Capuano, too. Wonder where he will be next year.

from jsonline on Cain's first homer :)

When Cain smacked his first major-league home run in the second inning, he was not greeted as he entered the dugout. Teammates stayed away from him as he put away his helmet. But as Cain shouted, "I got pop!" his teammates charged him in congratulations. Cain had been teased during recent batting practices for his lack of power, and teammates continued to razz him after the game. "Finally," Fielder said, and Craig Counsell said, "We had to embarrass him into hitting his first home run."

Bush vs Pelfrey tonight (and I'm sure you all will be watching :p)

This offseason is going to be interesting. Without moves that make sense and some early success I think the loyalty could really be tested. Under the right circumstances I really don't think an attendance dip of 20% is out of the question.
