2010 Milwaukee Brewers - Pitching: Quantity, or Quality????

Re: 2010 Milwaukee Brewers - Pitching: Quantity, or Quality????

The Brewers will be installing the 3rd largest video display in MLB during the offseason. Daktronics of Brookings, SD will be manufacturing the display.

And you still won't be able to see it from 1/2 of the outfield seats.

Just like you can't see the entire field from about 3/5 of all seats in the entire freakin' stadium.

Hooray for subsidized stadiums!

You make it sound like at a "normal" stadium you can see the scoreboard from the outfield...those seats are cheap for a reason you know. ;)

Re: 2010 Milwaukee Brewers - Pitching: Quantity, or Quality????

Just in case you're wondering, Melvin says Macha is the manager - but he also says he doesn't believe in interim managers, and we all know he's done it before. So after the Brewers position themselves to still be in the race with 2 weeks left, Macha will be canned and Sveum will take over again, and they'll make the playoffs. Right? :D

Re: 2010 Milwaukee Brewers - Pitching: Quantity, or Quality????

Here are some of my predictions regarding key personnel.

*Macha lasts the season and is fired immediately.
*Hart gets traded in the next couple of weeks.
*Prince gets traded in the offseason.
*Weeks gets a reasonable long term deal this year.
*Because of the combo of Weeks staying and Hart leaving, Lawrie gets moved to a corner OF spot and will start in 2012. Patch job in RF for 2011. I'd say Jodi Gerut may get a chance, but I'm beginning to wonder whether his bruise will heal by then.

Re: 2010 Milwaukee Brewers - Pitching: Quantity, or Quality????

Spot on mw4, I also think gamel will be at first unless we get a 1b back in one of the deals.

They could include Gamel in a trade, I'm not a big fan of his. He seems like a whiney panzy. But I wouldn't mind Gamel at first and Lawrie in Hart's spot.

Hart needs to get moved ASAP, to maximize what you get for him. I see him as just another potential Bill Hall if he gets a big long term contract.

From what I've read on Lawrie, he's a better hitter than Braun.

I'm really bummed Escobar has digressed so badly in all phases of his game. Sophmore Slump?

I'm still hoping the Sox collapse and Ozzie gets fired, Maacha gets fired at the end of the year, then we can get our man. :D

Re: 2010 Milwaukee Brewers - Pitching: Quantity, or Quality????

I wouldn't be at all opposed to sweetening up a deal with Gamel. My first impression if him was very favorable, but something is definitely there the organization doesn't like. He could end up taking us back to the 80's and early 90's with guys like Myers and Braggs who could tear it up in the minors but just weren't good major league hitters. I'm not saying the verdict is in on him, but I haven't liked a few of the things I've seen there. I thought he'd hit but the key would be finding a position for him where he isn't too big of a liability. The hitting doesn't seem like a certainty anymore.

Maybe we spoke too soon about not having any candidates for the OF. I thought Lorenzo Cain wouldn't be ready until maybe this time next season, but perhaps he's ready to make a bigger splash as a major prospect than Gamel or Escobar have. Unfortunately he's not best as a corner guy and they'll likely still need to find that guy.

Good god. What more does a pitcher have to do to get yanked? Why the **** did WWM(World's Worst Manager) leave Wolfe in that long to give up that many runs? Is the bullpen that taxed? The guy could not get anyone out. My 7 year old niece even understood this.

It's incredible how Macha has turned into Ned "I have to save the pen for tomorrow" Yost the last week or so. Manny, then Bush, now Wolfe. I just don't get it either. But, whatever, you and I have written the season off anyway; it's just hard not to care.

Re: 2010 Milwaukee Brewers - Pitching: Quantity, or Quality????

I suppose at a certain point, he's surrendered enough runs that there's just no sense in bothering to pretend like the Brewers could possibly overcome it. At that point, why use a reliever in a lost cause?

Some people have argued saving a starter from total implosion is better for their confidence in the long run, and saves them a bit of wear and tear. These folks also say let some bullpen schlub get imploded, that's what the sclub is for. That's what I heard on the radio today. I'm not sure I buy it.

Clearly Wolfe was totally ineffective, I say get him out after 5-6 runs and let Villy, Riske and Hoffman get thier heads pounded in instead for 4-5 innings and save Coffey, Bradock, Loe and Ax for the winnable games or if you close the gap in the game you were getting killed in.

But I see your point too.

Re: 2010 Milwaukee Brewers - Pitching: Quantity, or Quality????

Well, who'd a thunk? The Brewers win 3-1 and 3-2 pitching contests and lose the 11-9 and 15-3 slugfests. Progress? ;)

Re: 2010 Milwaukee Brewers - Pitching: Quantity, or Quality????

Brewers subject of 'Hard Knocks'-type reality show:

http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/98747459.html

First airing Tues, 8pm, ESPN.

I DVRed this but haven't watched yet.. did anyone watch?

Brewers said that Miller Park doesn't have any flooding problems, and the game is still on for tonight.
And it's still raining, so anyone going may want to take a canoe to the game. :)

I posted it and then promptly forgot to watch or record it. :o It is supposed to be rerun throughout the season on MLB Network, so I'll try and catch it sometime.

Re: 2010 Milwaukee Brewers - Pitching: Quantity, or Quality????

Yo was a site for sore eyes. If they were actually still in it this rest could have been just the ticket.

I'm not sure what I'm more excited for, Ueck returning tonight or next week's trading deadline to see what they do.

Re: 2010 Milwaukee Brewers - Pitching: Quantity, or Quality????

Nice win last night :)

Rickie Weeks is certainly having some kind of year in the leadoff spot. Really nice to see him come back with a productive season after his injury last year.

Yo vs. Volquez tonight

Is it Prince Fielder's last week as a Brewer?
