2010 DII Football

Re: 2010 DII Football

I see. Turnovers will kill anyone especially if they lead to points. They killed you guys in 2008 against UMD and almost killed UMD today against a team they beat by five touchdowns month ago.

Eh, even with what we had in 2008, GVSU still should have won that game. But still, it pays to be both good and lucky at times.

Re: 2010 DII Football

Northwest Missouri now currently holds the title of "The Man" now. I'm pretty sure I had all of the dates from 1988 to 1990 filled out, but I can't currently find that research I had from them and this was the most up to date copy of the list I had. I used this website here.... http://michigan-football.com/ncaa/ncaa_ii.htm and I pretty much used that site from there on to determine "The Man". It does get harder to figure out when teams moved up back then, but usually poking thru their older media guides will give you the dates you need, and you also might fight the info to confirm what division a school was when it played somebody who my have been a holder of the title belt then. If anybody can fill in those missing dates or track it back from an earlier champion, it would be a big help as well. In theory here, all NC winners were the Man, even if it was just an interim title.

The Interim Title of the Man for 91 thru 96.

PSU lost it to JSU 17-13 on 12-12-92

HSU lost it to DSU 24-0 on 10-05-96
DSU lost it to UNA 27-17 on 10-19-96
UNA lost it to CAU 21-20 on 11-02-96
CAU lost it to VSU 63-30 on 11-09-96
VSU lost it to WGU 42-21 on 11-16-96
WGU lost it to Carson-Newman 41-19 on 11-23-96
CN beat VSU 24-19 on 11-30-96 to Unify the titles.

Interim Title of The Man for 98
Northern Colorado lost it to Nebraska-Omaha 15-3 on 10-24-98
Nebraska-Omaha lost it to Northwest Missouri 28-14 on 11-21-98
NWMSU was the current holder of The Man title, so that game unified the title.

UMD defeats Augustana 24-13 and will play NW Missouri next Saturday, time and place TBA. Mercyhurst loses to Shepard, who will play Delta State next weekend.
So, looking at rankings, Shepherd and Delta State were #18 and #21 in the most recent rankings, so there were some big upsets in those brackets. Makes you think that #1 UMD and #3 NW Missouri squaring off in the other semifinal might be the best two teams left.

I'm not a huge D2 expert, but I'm inclined to agree that these are the two best team left. Delta State, however, does seem to be playing extremely well at the moment. Current for cast for Sat in Duluth: 17F high, -3F low, 20mph north wind. Game starts at 5pm, it won't be 17 degrees anymore by then!

Should be a nice advantage for UMD over the visiting southerners!:D

Well, this year it was just kinda odd all over in the GSC, and in the Southeast region as a whole. Usually, one or two of the big 3 in the GSC, Delta State, North Alabama, or Valdosta state is clearly better than the rest of the league, that just didn't seem to happen this year. And usually the SAC has a team thats more dominate as well. Wingate just snuck in, and about needed to play the earned access card to do that.

The Northeast, well, there's not a whole lot of respect at all nationally for most of the Northeast. The one team that did have some of that was California(PA) but they had a few stinkers this year. Losing to Mercyhurst doesn't look that great on a resume. Nothing against Mercyhurst, its just that they and Gannon had the rep as a GLIAC doormat when they were playing in the GLIAC, and while moving into the PSAC has helped them out a lot, it hasn't done a whole lot to help out the PSAC's rep.
Should be a nice advantage for UMD over the visiting southerners!:D
Don't be so sure about that. Them Missouri Boys know how to handle winter weather fairly well. NWMSU somehow lucked into hosting GVSU in 2007 and they had a pretty nasty ice storm come that knocked out a lot of power and almost turned their field into the largest skating rink in the Show Me State. Broke our 40 game win streak, and they had a loss on the year to boot, so us GVSU fans were all a bit upset about that all. Not to mention the treatment that some of the Bearcat faithful gave some of the Laker fans that went. One guy had his window broken on his vehical, and several of my friends that went said that they have never been so cursed at in their lives.

Re: 2010 DII Football

So they never played at Wisconsin then, eh?

Some of the Michigan fans would say that we've never played in Columbus, but that will be changing in a few years when ODU gets the pleasure of being on GVSU's schedule.;)

UW-Madison is one of the reasons why there isn't any D2 football programs within the state of Wisconsin. So worried that some school offering maybe a quarter of a scholorship to go play there will cut into the Badger's recuiting.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Been looking at facebook here and I see a few reports of UMD students camped out by the stadium there to be the first ones into the game today. It's at 5 and it might get to 0 degrees today in Duluth.

Re: 2010 DII Football

In the third quarter of the other semi-final game, a very tight game between Delta State and Shepherd. They just had a lightning delay, and are now playing in a quagmire here. 17-14 Delta right now with about 6:40 in the third to go.

Re: 2010 DII Football

Delta State locks in their trip to Florance next weekend, 29-17.

UMD-NWMSU still in the first, they look cold there.

Re: 2010 DII Football

In the second, still scoreless. I'm getting the feeling that this could end with a baseball score. Something like a 5-3 score.

Re: 2010 DII Football

so much for my 5-3 perdiction.... Beatcats with a td, miss the point after, 6-0 Bearcats with about 2 minutes left. UMD driving.
