Re: 2010 DII Football

UMD leading SCSU 33-17 late in a game that was closer than the score. Turnovers absolutely killed the Huskies.

Re: 2010 DII Football

40-17 UMD with less than a minute left. Too bad SCSU couldn't keep it closer to look better in the eyes of the voters.

Polls don't matter here. Its all a math formulas more or less that sort out who goes to the playoffs. SCSU's biggest problem right now is that Wayne State(MI) and Michigan Tech won today. Thats a few more 2 loss teams that could be in the regional rankings when they're released next week.

Re: 2010 DII Football

Scores from the weekend here

Friday night.

Bentley 35
Assumption 21
- Bye bye playoff chances here Greyhounds. Better luck next year. Only team in the NE-10 left with a chance to make the playoffs now is New Haven.

Saturday

Slippery Rock 13
Mercyhurst (24) 21
- Mercyhurst doing what they need to do to make the playoffs, winning. A win next week, and they should be in the PSAC championship game, which would then pretty much make em a lock for the playoffs, win or lose.

Wayne State (Mich.) 41
Saginaw Valley 27
- Wayne State exercised some demons up in University Center, with a solid performance against the Cardinals.

Stonehill 41
Saint Anselm 27
- Stonehill with the road win.

American International 59
Merrimack 19
- **** AIC, run up the score much?? Actually, not really that much, 49 of that 59 came in the first half, and a lot of it from Merrimack turning the ball over. Note to the Warriors. No garlic butter bread sticks as pre game meals!!

Grand Valley (2) 17
Michigan Tech 20
- Michigan Tech pulled the upset! Phil Milbrath rushed for 293 yards on 33 carries to lift Michigan Tech to a 20-17 win over No. 1-ranked Grand Valley State today at Sherman Field. The Huskies (6-2, 6-2 GLIAC) totaled 368 yards of total offense and held the Lakers (8-1, 7-1 GLIAC) to just 16 rushing yards in beating GVSU for the first time since 1984.

Northern Michigan 43
Tiffin 14
- about the beating I expected here. Dragons are just no good. Tiffin's coach should do less crying about teams running up the score and more about actually doing something to put a stop to it. That is if he's around for next year.

Minnesota State 13
Augustana (10) 17
- Auggie scored a TD late in this contest to go ahead. Mankato nearly made UMD the clear cut number one in the region.

Northern State 13
Bemidji State 41
- Good win for the Beavers, one they can build towards the future with. And with St. Cloud up next, a shot at a Mineral Water Bowl birth could be on the line there.

Nebraska-Omaha 48
Pittsburg State 27
- Finishing .500 on the season isn't out of reach for the Mavericks. Just gotta win out.

Ferris State 33
Indianapolis 37
- Ferris suffering from a Hangover from GVSU. Brightens my day some. They will still have a shot at finishing above .500. Either a win at home against Michigan Tech, or a road game at Northwood would do that. I would wager on the Northwood game a little more for that.

Humboldt State 35
Simon Fraser 14
- The Canucks will get better, and at least they have bragging rights from the Shrum Bowl.

Re: 2010 DII Football

Interesting that Augustana slips in above UMD. I don't know enough about the formula used for this, but can someone point to where it is detailed or give an explanation of what tipped it away from UMD? A little ironic happening the same day UMD is ranked #1 in the AFCA poll for the first time ever.

I assume it's something better than the D1 BCS mess! Thankfully in D2, it's actually settled on the field.

I imagine our GV Hangover after that upset is going to be like the rare and elusive, yet crippling scotch hangover. Ferris will win at home.

Naw, Tech should be able to roll over Ferris as long as Phil has some gas in the tank. I would have to agree with Twitch about losing to NMU. Math could flip in MTU's favor, especially if ferris wins their last game and finishes over .500.

I think its a bit of a matter of who else Auggie hasn't played yet, and will miss. Auggie hasn't played Upper Iowa yet, which is the worst team in the South Divison of the NSIC. And they don't play Crookston either. UMD already has played the worse of the SOS Anchors, and have Crookston on the dance card this weekend. Also, Auggie played St. Cloud in a non-conference game, giving them another boost, while UMD played Central Washington. While CWU is a good program, they're a victim of their schedule that forces them to play round robin with their conference. Also, as far as the D2 committee is concerned, CWU is 5-2 while SCSU is 7-2, meaning that those losses for CWU hurt them more percentage wise.

I'll admittee, Auggie in the one spot doesn't quite pass the Smell test, but thats the way the system is right now. Wanna prove that you're the best, go on the road and do it. Its not like UMD hasn't won on the road before. 2008 they proved that.

Re: 2010 DII Football

I find it interesting that the high school I teach at in AZ has a poster for college athletics outside the career center that has a big picture of a UMD football game on it.

Re: 2010 DII Football

Hmmm... Nobody from Arizona on UMD's roster, my guess is then it has something about how I choose Division 2 on it then??

i'll look at it again tomorrow, but i think it had something about eligibility. I didn't recognize the school they are playing in the picture...helmet was green had a paw print(?) on it...had a mascot name on it too but don't remember it lol

Re: 2010 DII Football

So, it looks like this week's game between St. Cloud and Bemidji could really make the NSIC's Mineral Water Bowl bid interesting if Bemidji would win...

Currently, the NSIC standings are, with two weeks to go:

3. St. Cloud State (7-2, 7-1)
4. Bemidji State (6-3, 5-3)
4. Concordia-St. Paul (6-3, 5-3)
4. Winona State (6-3, 5-3)

Head to head tiebreakers as of right now:

Winona: H2H over CSP (did not play Bemidji)
BSU: No H2H, but has SCSU coming up and needs the win to get one H2H
SCSU: H2H over Winona and Concordia with Bemidji coming up.
Concordia: H2H over Bemidji

Remaining schedules:

Winona hosts Mary and Wayne State
Bemidji is at St. Cloud and hosts Crookston
St. Cloud hosts Bemidji and is at Moorhead
Concordia hosts Upper Iowa and is at Southwest Minnesota State
