2010 DII Football

Re: 2010 DII Football

Cal U makes the big time!!! http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/news/story?id=5684400

"Roy Yarbrough, a professor at California University of Pennsylvania who consults with schools on choosing new mascots and symbols, said Ole Miss could spend $100,000 or more for costumes, letterhead and marketing fees.

He said there's still a risk the bear will be rejected, citing the example of a school in Pekin, Ill., that once had a racial epithet for Chinese people as its mascot. They changed it in the 1980s, but it's still a sore issue.

"If no one accepts the new mascot, Colonel Reb could make a comeback," he said."

Cal Who??

Eh, I still say they should have gone with Admiral Akbar from Star Wars. Make Lucus an offer, and he would gladly pimp out Akbar to Old Miss. Hell, then he can star thinking about loaning out Chewbacca to Michigan. Michigan Wookies.

Re: 2010 DII Football

Just hear a very nasty rumor out of Duluth. Rumor has it that Issac Odim blew out his knee yesterday in practice, and goes in for surgury tomorrow morn. Hate to see that happen. He was the frontrunner to win the Harlon Hill award this year.

Word is its his meniscus. minimally invasive, just a pain in the bum to have heal up.

assumption got rolled by merrimack... 49-23 the final.... merrimack returned to interceptions for touchdowns,,,

Re: 2010 DII Football

NMU hands Ferris State their first loss on the season, 22-20 at the Yooper Dome

Nope, it was ferris second loss of the year. The lost to hillsdale in the first game of the year, but technetaly, that was a non-con game as they where not scheduled to meet this year. That was their first conference loss.

Not a rumor. Happened in practice on Thursday. Out for the year.

Re: 2010 DII Football

Yeah, they should be fine with Foss as their main RB today against Mary, and likely for the rest of their regular season as well. But this has got to put bit of a cramp in the Bulldogs Playoff plans.

UMD will be fine with Foss. He's 11th all time in rushing despite being a four-year backup. Still, it hurts losing an explosive player like Odim.

yeah, it was just really late when it was brought up on friday night over on D2F.com. Didn't really have anything offical to confirm it, and well, you never do know when somebody just wants to yank your chain about something like that. A kid like Odim, was really just hoping it was somebody screwing with all of us over there. http://www.duluthnewstribune.com/event/article/id/181482/group/sports/

Totally changes the Harlon Hill award race. I have no idea of who the 3 guys in Tuxes in Alabama are going to be this year.

Something of interest to Mookie. Cal U PA had its homecoming game with Slippery Rock on ESPN 3. Game still available and archived there if you want to watch it.

Note, looks like they just have the Vulcan Sports Network Feed that ESPN is making availiable on their website. Kinda got the feeling that some of the game was on ESPN 3 just to show off this new camera system that some PA firm put together, but pretty good non the less.

Ouch.

Re: 2010 DII Football

Scores from last weekend.....

Ashland 40
Wayne State (Mich.) 35
- Wayne had an 8 point lead at halftime, but the Eagles came back to beat em by five. Tough loss for the Warriors, especially with Hillsdale coming in next weekend for what is the de facto GLIAC South Division championship game.

New Haven 13
American International 0
-This loss here pretty much knocks AIC out of the NE-10 title hunt.

Mercyhurst 22 -OT
Edinboro 21
- The second come from behind thriller for the Lakers of the Erie in as many weeks. Gutsy call with going for the 2 point conversion in the OT.

Assumption 23
Merrimack 49
- A pair of pick six's for Mack lead to the lopsided score here.

Ferris State 20
Northern Michigan 22
- NMU avoids the GVSU hangover, and comes up with a narrow victory over the Bulldogs of Ferris.

Stonehill 27
Pace 0
- Unfortunately for both squads, nothing they did on the field Saturday Afternoon made as much ink as an incident that happened that night....

Bentley 36
Southern Connecticut 26
A big win for the Falcons, and gives UNH sole possession of first place in the NE-10. New Haven.

Michigan Tech 17
Hillsdale (8) 24
- A tough loss for the Huskies in back to back weeks. Really doesn't look too good for their playoff chances now with other big games looming on their schedule. Hillsdale is looking good to be a repeat playoff team this year.

Upper Iowa 14
Minnesota State 48
- No surprise here. The Peacocks are the kind of team you want to bring in for homecoming.

Mary 0
Minnesota-Duluth (1) 49
- Even with the loss of Odim, the Bulldogs roll over Mary.

Bemidji State 14
MSU Moorhead 6
- The Beaver's Gang Green Defense came up big with some timely sacks to help stall Moorhead drives, which allows them to retain the "Battle Axe".

Fort Hays 29
Nebraska-Omaha 41
- UNO cruises to a win at home. Doubtful they'll be getting any favors next week when they go to Central Missouri.

Southwest Minnesota 6
St. Cloud (24) 24
- SCSU has been a very welcomed surprise this year, with all of the talk about dropping football before the start of the year. Had they just managed to beat Augustana in their first game, they would have been undefeated and a virtual lock for the playoffs even with a tilt with UMD on the schedule yet. Still would have a decent shot right now with making the playoffs even with a loss to UMD.

Re: 2010 DII Football

We've finally arrived as a national football power. No program really makes it to the top without off the field headlines these days.

Rough week.
Well, at least your incident with a player and cop didn't involve a shooting, or you star running back getting chased down on foot by a cop.

You've really made the bigtime now. The Aurich incident got mentioned on the Jim Rome Show. I don't listen to him, but this link was on D2F today.

Re: 2010 DII Football

Games for this weekend

Saturday October 23,

12:00 pm

California (4) @
Mercyhurst
- Huge game for Mercyhurst. California is looking like they'll be the easy pick for the one seed in the Northeast region, and just might have the horses to make it past the semi-finals this year given that their region will face the winner of the Southeast region this year, and nobody has really looked to be that strong in that region this year. An upset here would do wonders for the Lakers, along with screw with everybody trying to figure out the playoff picture at the moment.

Hillsdale (7) @
Wayne State (Mich.)
- Another big clash with playoff possibilities right now. If Hillsdale wins this, they lock up the South Division championship of the GLIAC, and would likely win out til the end of the regular season. Wayne State has some faint playoff hopes left here, but they gotta get a win here, and maybe even pick up some help along the way.

1 pm

Saint Anselm @
Assumption
- Assumption isn't totally out of the picture for the playoffs, but they gotta win here, and hope for some help along the way.

Northwood @
Michigan Tech
- After two tough losses, MTU will get some home cooking to help em shake off those losses. Their playoff hopes ain't done with yet, but they gotta do a whole lot of winning the next for the next 4 weeks. Lucky for them, 3 of them are in Copper Country.

Merrimack @
New Haven
- Both squads here are only carrying 1 loss going into the de facto NE-10 Championship game.

Indianapolis @
Northern Michigan
- Northern is pretty much out of the playoffs now, but they get another game in where they can season their new QB for a campaign next season. They can still play spoiler for other teams however.

Southern Connecticut @
Stonehill
- *insert some stuff about building for next year here, for both squads.*

2 pm

Mary @
Bemidji State
- Mary got rolled by UMD last weekend, and Issac Odim was still in recovery at the hospital at the time. Don't have much hope for Mary this weekend either.

Pace @
Bentley
- Pace is yet to win this year, so I would look for the Falcons to get to .500 on the year this weekend.

Grand Valley (2) @
Ferris State
- <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Fbn_WEyYwJk?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Fbn_WEyYwJk?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
Thats all I'm going to say about this matchup!!!

Minnesota-Crookston @
St. Cloud (19)
- St. Cloud continues to win this weekend, and increases its playoff poll prediction stock. Moving on!!

Minnesota State @
Wayne State (Neb.)
- Mankato is pretty much out of the playoff picture here, but they can ruin what chances Wayne State Nebraska has by beating them this weekend. At this point in the season, somebody has got to play spoiler.

2:30 pm

Nebraska-Omaha @
Central Missouri (12)
- Doesn't look well for the Mavericks for getting a road win this year. At least not in this matchup.

3:30 pm

Minnesota-Duluth (1) @
Northern State
- This is the kind of game where if it was D1, coaches would likely have their star that's recently gotten into some legal trouble wouldn't be allowed to play in, you know, to discipline them.

4 pm

Simon Fraser @
Dixie State
- Fresh off a win in the Shrum Bowl and a bye week, I would expect the Clansmen to have a lot of fun in Southern Utah.
