2010 DII Football

Re: 2010 DII Football

Games for this weekend

Mary @
Bemidji State
- Mary got rolled by UMD last weekend, and Issac Odim was still in recovery at the hospital at the time. Don't have much hope for Mary this weekend either.

With the way BSU has performed this year, I wouldn't write Mary off this weekend.......

Re: 2010 DII Football

You've really made the bigtime now. The Aurich incident got mentioned on the Jim Rome Show. I don't listen to him, but this link was on D2F today.

See Hour Two they say, if you have the Clone Membership or whatever it he calls it.

Man when that link becomes free I am so going to listen. As a big Jim Rome fan that will be quite entertaining....

Well, in the GLIAC, we have noticed bit of a trend with teams the week after they played GVSU. They tend to lose a little bit more than what they normally would. Some teams just have guys injured, or just that they've thrown their best shot at the Lakers. I would suspect that the NSIC might now have a simuliar effect with UMD.

Then I believe you would get a kick out of these photoshops done by Chargerblue over at D2Football.

Greyhounds defeat the Wildcats 6-3. Ugly, slow game by both teams.

Edit: Indy takes an intentional safety to run out the clock...final is 6-5 Indy

I was wondering how NMU got that Safety.

Here's the Shocker of the weekend right here.....

California (4) 21
Mercyhurst 31

All but spit out my lemonaid when I saw the score earlier..... California had a 24 game winning streak in the PSAC going. And on paper, really wouldn't have faced another team that could run with them until the playoffs. Quite easily the biggest win ever for the Lakers of the Erie. Congrats!!!

Re: 2010 DII Football

Scores from this weekend....

California (4) 21
Mercyhurst 31
- Easily the biggest win ever for Mercyhurst Football. The Lakers went out there gave the Vulcans their best shot, and popped right in the mouth. Great win for MC and it keeps their playoff hopes alive as well. I just can't imagine that the loss did anything to improve the Vulcans mood any. It was their first conference loss in 24 games. One should almost feel sorry for California's next couple of opponents, because I think the Vulcans are going to be out for blood now going into the playoffs with one loss to their credit.

Hillsdale (7) 9
Wayne State (Mich.) 14
- Another pretty important win here as well, for the Warriors of Wayne. Hillsdale looked like they would easily wrap up the South GLIAC title this year and be the second GLIAC team in the playoffs. The Warriors knocking em off here opens the door to a few other teams getting HC's spot.

Saint Anselm 40
Assumption 45
- Looks like a Track meet score. Who do you guys think you are?? The LSC?? ;)

Northwood 30
Michigan Tech 62
- Highest scoring game Tech has had since they hung 76 on Manitoba in 1992. Very impressive, and the Huskies still have a chance right now for the playoffs. Color me nervous.

Merrimack 25
New Haven 27
- A heart-breaker here. Merrimack intercepted a pass with about 3 minutes to go, they march 88 yards to pay dirt, go for the two to tie things up, didn't make it, and failed to recover the onside kick. Merrimack's chances of finishing above .500 is in question now.

Indianapolis 6
Northern Michigan 5
- Just didn't look like anybodies offense could really get going in this one. Tough loss for the Wildcats.

Southern Connecticut 45
Stonehill 21
- Stonehill got whooped.... Next!

Mary 22
Bemidji State 23
- Well, I guess there isn't much of an UMD Hangover in the NSIC. BSU just squeaked out the win here with a FG in the last minute here.

Grand Valley (2) 41
Ferris State 0
- Ferris wasn't facing Tiffin here. GVSU was all business on Saturday, playing one of the most complete and focused games they've had in a long time. One could tell the Lakers wanted this one, especially after last year where the one win Bulldogs almost knocked off the Lakers.

Minnesota-Crookston 6
St. Cloud (19) 49
- Hell, maybe after this year, the Minnesota legislature will vote to save themselves some money and just close down Crookston, and spread the money that they got to the other Minnesota Public schools. ;) St. Cloud looks good for a playoff spot as well at the moment.

Minnesota State 13
Wayne State (Neb.) 3
- A good win here, that should help the Landcows finish above .500 on the year. Too bad that 2 of their next 3 games are against undefeated Augustana and UMD. Still doesn't mean they can't play spoiler though.

Nebraska-Omaha 31
Central Missouri (12) 34
- The Mules had to rally to get pass the Mavericks, scoring the go ahead touchdown with just 4 seconds left in the game. Not too shabby of a result there, one that a coach could use next year for motivation during camp.

Minnesota-Duluth (1) 27
Northern State 7
- Lowest offensive output by the Bulldogs all season. Looks like UMD just might have had a case of the Blahs the first half.

Simon Fraser 15
Dixie State 18
- Back to American football rules for the plucky Clansmen. They had a great first half, but had a brutal 3rd quarter put them in a hole. And a last minute field goal try to tie the game was short. It was going to be a rough year for them this year, but they've got a lot of young guys who are getting a lot of experience this year.

Re: 2010 DII Football

This weekends games, the Halloween special!

Friday, October 29, 7 PM

Bentley @
Assumption
- Assumption does have a slight chance at the playoffs yet, but have to at least win their last 3 games here, and hope for a few lucky bounces elsewhere to narrow down the field of playoff hopefuls. Totally doable from what I see here.

Saturday, October 30

Noon

Slippery Rock @
Mercyhurst (24)
- Yeah, that's a ranking there for MC. Off the top of my head here, I'm pretty sure that's the first time ever Mercyhurst has ever been ranked by D2Football.com. Amazing what happens when you knock off the local giant there in the PSAC. But no time to rest on your laurels Mercyhurst. Still have a shot at the playoffs as well right now. Still gotta win out, which shouldn't be all that bad being that they're all in Erie, and much like Assumption, hope for the bounces to go their way. However, those bounces going one way my very well knock AC out of the running while putting MC in, and visa versa.

Wayne State (Mich.) @
Saginaw Valley
- Huge game for Wayne here. Not only are they still in the hunt as well, but they should have something to prove here. Saggy has had their number for a while. The last time Wayne State beat Saggy, it was back in 1991. They were still known as the Tartars then. If Wayne wants to have a shot at the playoffs, they gotta win this game. They might not even have enough bounces to go their way, but its hard to read the tea leaves right now anyways.

Stonehill @
Saint Anselm
- Not everybody is playing for a shot at the playoffs here. They're both just barely out of the NE-10 basement, and Pace doesn't look like it could play itself out of that hole anytime soon.

1 pm

American International @
Merrimack
- No playoffs here, just playing to see who can finish out the year as being over .500. Both are 3-4 on the year right now.

Grand Valley (2) @
Michigan Tech
- Michigan Tech is another squad that's Living on a Prayer right now. In the Needs to win boat as well, and getting one of those against GVSU is a pretty tall order. Still, with some wet and cool weather expected up there at the End Of The Earth, anything can happen. Either way, that loss to Saginaw Vally is really hurting their chances right now.

1:30 PM

Northern Michigan @
Tiffin
- A long bus ride to Ohio this weekend for the Wildcats. But they should be still fairly motivated to beat a pretty sad sack team in the Dragons. The Dragon's only GLIAC win came in 2008 against NMU in Ohio, and that would be something I would reminding the Wildcats with.

2 PM

Minnesota State @
Augustana (10)
- Mankato here is out of the playoffs, but it doesn't mean they don't have the power to affect the playoffs any. With Auggie being unbeaten, its a 3 horse race for the 2 byes in the Region with UMD and GVSU still unbeaten as well. This is a game that could go a very long way towards deciding if the GLIAC or the NSIC get a third team into the playoffs this year.

Northern State @
Bemidji State
- With 3 losses, Bemidji docent have a chance at making the playoffs, but still look pretty good at finishing over .500 on the year.

St. Cloud (16) @
Minnesota-Duluth (1)
- Even with the loss, St. Cloud would still be in good shape to make the playoffs. Win it, and the Huskies might be most likely hosting a playoff game and go a long way to fixing that 3 horse race as well. Game of the week right here.

3 pm

Nebraska-Omaha @
Pittsburg State
- UNO almost pulled off the impossible last weekend, but the Mules had more in the tank left than the mavericks and they got the win. Next up is a trip to the Jungle to take on the Gorillas.

6 pm

Ferris State @
Indianapolis

- Ferris got dropped for 40 points and had a shutout against GVSU. Indy scored 8 points last weekend, and with 2 of them being for the other team.

Humboldt State @
Simon Fraser
- Nothing much to say here, the new kid is taking some shots this year.

Re: 2010 DII Football

When was the last time Tech defeated GVSU? The Lakers have won 16 in a row, according to the Tech game notes, and the only win I can find was in the 80s?
