Re: 2010 DII Football
Scores from this weekend....
California (4) 21
Mercyhurst 31
- Easily the biggest win ever for Mercyhurst Football. The Lakers went out there gave the Vulcans their best shot, and popped right in the mouth. Great win for MC and it keeps their playoff hopes alive as well. I just can't imagine that the loss did anything to improve the Vulcans mood any. It was their first conference loss in 24 games. One should almost feel sorry for California's next couple of opponents, because I think the Vulcans are going to be out for blood now going into the playoffs with one loss to their credit.
Hillsdale (7) 9
Wayne State (Mich.) 14
- Another pretty important win here as well, for the Warriors of Wayne. Hillsdale looked like they would easily wrap up the South GLIAC title this year and be the second GLIAC team in the playoffs. The Warriors knocking em off here opens the door to a few other teams getting HC's spot.
Saint Anselm 40
Assumption 45
- Looks like a Track meet score. Who do you guys think you are?? The LSC??
Northwood 30
Michigan Tech 62
- Highest scoring game Tech has had since they hung 76 on Manitoba in 1992. Very impressive, and the Huskies still have a chance right now for the playoffs. Color me nervous.
Merrimack 25
New Haven 27
- A heart-breaker here. Merrimack intercepted a pass with about 3 minutes to go, they march 88 yards to pay dirt, go for the two to tie things up, didn't make it, and failed to recover the onside kick. Merrimack's chances of finishing above .500 is in question now.
Indianapolis 6
Northern Michigan 5
- Just didn't look like anybodies offense could really get going in this one. Tough loss for the Wildcats.
Southern Connecticut 45
Stonehill 21
- Stonehill got whooped.... Next!
Mary 22
Bemidji State 23
- Well, I guess there isn't much of an UMD Hangover in the NSIC. BSU just squeaked out the win here with a FG in the last minute here.
Grand Valley (2) 41
Ferris State 0
- Ferris wasn't facing Tiffin here. GVSU was all business on Saturday, playing one of the most complete and focused games they've had in a long time. One could tell the Lakers wanted this one, especially after last year where the one win Bulldogs almost knocked off the Lakers.
Minnesota-Crookston 6
St. Cloud (19) 49
- Hell, maybe after this year, the Minnesota legislature will vote to save themselves some money and just close down Crookston, and spread the money that they got to the other Minnesota Public schools.
St. Cloud looks good for a playoff spot as well at the moment.
Minnesota State 13
Wayne State (Neb.) 3
- A good win here, that should help the Landcows finish above .500 on the year. Too bad that 2 of their next 3 games are against undefeated Augustana and UMD. Still doesn't mean they can't play spoiler though.
Nebraska-Omaha 31
Central Missouri (12) 34
- The Mules had to rally to get pass the Mavericks, scoring the go ahead touchdown with just 4 seconds left in the game. Not too shabby of a result there, one that a coach could use next year for motivation during camp.
Minnesota-Duluth (1) 27
Northern State 7
- Lowest offensive output by the Bulldogs all season. Looks like UMD just might have had a case of the Blahs the first half.
Simon Fraser 15
Dixie State 18
- Back to American football rules for the plucky Clansmen. They had a great first half, but had a brutal 3rd quarter put them in a hole. And a last minute field goal try to tie the game was short. It was going to be a rough year for them this year, but they've got a lot of young guys who are getting a lot of experience this year.
