2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

Well, a better game to watch. Other than the own goal (again, are you kiddin' me??) they looked much better and actually played with some intensity.

Just watching them get pushed around... its kinda helpless... we don't have the size to deal with that so its hard to get great chances. As good as the first period was I think I only saw 2 real opportunities and they cashed in on one of them.... I think the other was a situation where Arnold opted to pass instead of shoot with some space on the left side of the net.

Still with the defensive blunders... two defensemen caught napping and split by a Mankato forward in the 3rd. For what little I've watched, I don't think I've seen a team have so many defensive lapses in a season.

Defense is a relative term. I with I had one of those little dog collars that shocks every time the button is pushed. Bssst every time they pass into the middle and cause a shot on net. You learn not to do that in MITES!! and it is the same person every time. ANd every game it has caused a goal.

After the last few games tho this was a ray of hope. That # 25 on the Maverick side was huge. Everyone bounced off of him.

And on a humerous note- Lil decided that if they were the Mavericks they should be renamed the Palins and have a pic of Palin's head on the front of their jerseys with a bump-it and lots of lipstick. :D That made me laugh.

A much better effort, but again another costly defensive mistake gives the opponenet the game. At least there were some moments of urgency.

I agree, but this team is not winning the battles along the boards, behind, or in front of the net right now. They are being out worked much of the time. Much of the offense consists of of 100 foot pass that goes no where or just gives the puck back to the other team. Why play dump and chase when you can't win the battles in the corners?

It's been almost comical the past couple of weeks, if it can go wrong it has for the Hawks.

This is what has to stop if the team wants to get any points. When you're younger and not as mature as some of the other teams, the only thing you really have going for you is working harder.

Another tough game, but at least the team put together some periods of good play. Carr saved 33 of 36 (.917), nice to see Wetmore with a pair, and good to have some players on the plus side of +/-.

Next week's games are incredibly important, a rare Thursday/Saturday game weekend. Getting points against UNH on Thursday would be nice but there's nothing expected there. Saturday's game UMass is a must-win. If UML wants any chance at the playoffs, taking points from the bottom teams is very important.

Hope to get some gelp from Hockey East next weekend. #6 Providence is in Orono for a pair, #7 Northeastern has a h/h with Merrimack, #8 UMass has one against UML, and #9 Vermont has BC today then UNH next Sunday.

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

An improved game over Friday, but still a disappointing loss. Gotta play better in our own zone before we play better in theirs.

One thing I have noticed this year as a sign of good things to come is the growth of Joseph Pendenza #14.

The SH line of Pendenza and Wetmore reminds me very much of the SH line of Tejchma and Hall. Very aggressive, yet smart to know when not to be too aggressive.

Another thing from last nights game was the hard play of Nick Curry #25. He was fighting hard for the puck and using his body while back on defense, both blocking shots and throwing checks.

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

I agree with UW. From my seat I saw more effort and work than before and the Frosh guys have promise. There were spurts where the comment about not working in the corners was not true. Then there was the mountain 25. Even our biggest guys trying to skate thru him were bouncing off. That guy was big and strong as you get.

On the injury front, Soup is hoping to be back shortly after Christmas. He's not healing as quickly as he was hoping and just recently got back on skates. Cey should be good to get back in the lineup hopefully this week/weekend. Haven't heard anything on Budd.

I'd would feel better about this weekend if Cey was in the lineup for the HE games, especially the game against Amherst.

Would be nice to have another senior back in the lineup for both games, but getting points against Amherst is going to be huge.

I don't expect much from tonight's game but don't think it's impossible to come away with a win or a tie. If they can clog up the fast play of the Wildcats, force shots from the outside, and work them into getting frustrated and taking penalties, UML can come out on top. The UML PP has been surprisingly effective (4th in Hockey East), so the more, the merrier. Letting UNH get 43 shots again will make for a tough night (although Carr turned away 41 of them), and as always, UML needs to shoot more. Digiwhatever has proven so far that he's an excellent goalie, so lots of shots, traffic, and those dirty goals Blaise wants more of will be important (an maybe an exciting Pendenza shorthanded breakaway).

With the day off between games, I think we'll see Carr get both of the starts.

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

Saw this in The Inside Track today. I did hear that he turned down the presidency of all of UMass to stay at Lowell. And I know that the Track is a gossip column. Still, it makes you wonder. I hope he stays. He's a big proponent of the hockey team.

he is in fact staying as reported on WBZ radio yesterday and yes, that's good for the hockey program and UML in general IMO and the opinion of a close friend who works in admissions

UML Field Hockey leads in their NCAA semifinal against Stonehill, 3-0 at the half.

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

5-1 Final for UML, 23-0 record now. The NCAA Final is at 1:30 on Saturday afternoon. Their opponent will be determined in the second semi which is at 4 today.

If I were Stonehill I'd be ****ed. Travel that far just to know you're going to lose to Lowell again. And to give up as many goals as you had shots... pathetic.

North of the red line, I don't have many concerns for us. It's south of the red line that we all know where 80% of this team's problems lie.

Personally, I'd love to see a couple of the guys take a chance every now and again. It's the only way your going to beat a team like UNH. If they are passive, it's going to be a long, arduous evening. Knowing that we have already played them here last month, it will be interesting to see what adjustments are made. Of course, this team can't get into a 5-5 shootout like Brown did with these guys last week. The game plan they had in the first game was excellent. With a better execution, they may see a favorable result, and at this point, a tie is one of them.

DiGirolamo has proven to be one of the bigger surprises in Hockey East. One has to give credit to him because arguably, he's been the best goalie in the league during the first semester. He's exceeded my expectations.

I agree that Carr probably will see both starts this "long" weekend as this team needs any and all points it can muster, especially the Amherst game closing the HE books for the first semester. Maybe next weekend (with the non-league games) would be the next opportunity for both goalies to see playing time.

Well, not a win but much better to watch. They played hard and not as many glaring errors. Cey looked rusty but not surprising he was. I am really impressed with the Frosh guys.

Had a woman from UNH behind me that never shut up with the most caustic, irritating voice (not an indoor voice and got louder as the game went on) and was completely ignorant about the game. When Sheu got kicked in the head she was yelling for him to get off the ice until one of her party clued her in that he was hurt. Color commentary on every play, all using the players first names, mostly having no idea what she was watching. My favorite- 2 UNH guys colided w/goalie and were flat out in the crease and she was yelling for the ref to clear our guys out of the crease. They couldn't have gotten in there unless they stood on someone. Lil said if he had a gun with one bullet he wasn't sure if he would shoot her or himself in case shooting her didn't shut her up. She scored every goal personally after telling them what they should be doing. If I had season tickets next to her I think I would never go to a game again. Tried to use my earbuds from the itouch to block her out but unfortunately they are built to let external sound in :( :( Ackkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk!
