2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

The 8 goals in Maine sorta skew things I would imagine.

It still accounts for a significant portion but that will normalize as they play more games. It will drop around 3-4% if they give up their average in two weeks when they play UNH and UMass.

In 2006-2007, I have the goals as 51/76 in HE, and 74/104 overall. They went to MN-DLH, OMA (NMU/Niagra), DEN (Brown), and the Capital District (Union/RPI) that year and hosted SLU. The trend is disturbing as scoring in HE is really down. Maine's leading the league in GFPG at 3.14, with us in last at 2.10. The best GAPG is UNH with 1.86, with us in last at 3.70. Only UMA has a GAPG in the three's and it's exactly 3.00. I expect these numbers to change dramatically over the course of the next three weeks as teams catch up to us in league games played.

The UMA game on 12/4 could very well decide who is in last place over the Christmas holiday. :( No matter what happens, UVM will still have two games in hand and UMA will have three. Ick

From of today's Boston Globe: UMass top post concerns Patrick.

Two leaders of the University of Massachusetts board of trustees plan to meet with Governor Deval Patrick today to try to assure him of the fairness of the selection process for a new university president, amid concerns from the governor that a former member of Congress has an inside track to get the job.

Former US representative Martin T. Meehan, now chancellor at UMass Lowell, has emerged as a leading candidate to succeed president Jack M. Wilson, according to sources familiar with the search.

Not sure what game they were commentating on but Merrimack spent most of the night in our end passing around us while we scrambled. Granted the scrambling was somewhat effective but look at the SOG. Yikes.

That's probably my bad in interpreting what I'm hearing on the radio. A consequence of optimism and listening to the games while half asleep in the middle of the night. I missed the entire game on Satuday because the internet went down for the whole weekend at the hotel I was staying in. Although it sounds like if there was any game to miss listening to, this was a good one.

I finally took a look at the box scores for the two games and the team averaged 5.67 shots per period on Friday and 4.00 shots per period on Saturday. So now I see what you mean.

What happened on Merrimack's three goals in the first period on Saturday? Carr saw 14 shots in the first period and let in three of them. Was he having an off day just like everyone else or was he getting left out to dry?

Tough to be one point out of the cellar when that bottom team has four games to get that point. Good to have an OOC weekend coming up to hopefully get back on track.

On a separate note, I don't mind Bob's excitement on the radio because I like the enthusiasm but it can be really confusing, especially when you're doing something else and have the game on in the background or are half asleep. Now, when I hear him announce a goal when I'm not paying full attention, I wait for the crowd noise/horn or lack thereof to determine if I should be excited or not. Seems to work ok.

Two were shorthanded breakaways. The other was a slow backhander that went through a bunch of skates on it's way to the net.

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

Just watched the Princeton / Qunnipiac game on NESN. Princeton not afraid to shoot and keep it up-tempo. Very short shifts (20-25 seconds) and try to emulate the Bruins by trapping and crashing in front of the goal, or the famous "layered defense" in the words of Andy Brickley (he did not call the game). Down 1-0, Qunnipiac had a 5:00 PP with about 12 minutes to play and did absolutely nothing with it but pass it around the rink.

Looked like that backhanded goal did not go into the net on its own; looks like Bly may have gotten it. Concerned about the breakaways given up by Carr as of late. While hung out to dry by his defense, he seems to get lost with any move by the attacking player and it winds up in the back of the net. Sheen's move wasn't that great and Barton's goal completely undressed him.

If you thought last Friady was bad, the "Brownies" blew a two-goal lead with just under 2:00 to go at UNH tonight. Two goals in :11, yikes.

UMA won their first game of the year, which places us & UVM in a tie for ninth. Vermont does have two games this weekend, Friday they host NU, and Sunday, they travel to BC for a 4:00 PM game. UMA's next league game is against us on the 4th.

I was listening to that game on the way home tonight. On the tieing goal it sounded like the Brown goalie went to play the puck behind the net as it was shot around. The puck bounce off him and landed in the crease for an easy goal for UNH. Tough break for Brown.

That game at Amherst on the 4th at 1:00 pm is going to be a big one for the Hawks.

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

There are many respectable umass lowell hockey fans, but please, for the love of god, shut UMLgoon and patronick's yappers or I will never leave your thread alone. They persistently post unwarranted, evil, berating messages in our thread (vermont's thread) with no reason and no provocation. No Vermont fan ever posts in your thread, and we consistently see these immature blurts from these two goons. I wish they'd stay in their own thread, but it just hasn't happened (even when we've tried to ignore them) I respect the rest of you, but these two are pieces of ****. I wish your team the best for the rest of the season, I really do.

Saw the quoted post, thought "oh Brother!, who is this idjit" and then realized the reason I missed the original was because Ignore was in use. I wonder why.....

I have to agree with midge843!!! You need to show some class but I guess some people will always be classless !!!!!! I understand where you are coming from!!

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Enjoy the day. Even if you have to spend it with family! ;)

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!!

Lets hope we have some sort of turn out for the games this weekend. It was quite dead in terms of cheering/MC jeering last Friday. I know UML is running a thing for students, hopefully there is enough around to show up to a Thanksgiving weekend pair of games:

" It's BRING A FRIEND NIGHT at the Tsongas Center! For this weekend, your UML ID will get you not one, but 2 FREE TICKETS in the STUDENTS section!"

I know I am late to the topic, but I would say that in my 7 years of following UML hockey that Friday was the worst I can remember feeling after a game. The last few minutes of the third period were depressing, you could almost see the game slipping away and knew that UML would not hold the lead.

Here is hoping for two good non-conference games this weekend, and of course 2 wins for UML :).

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

Mankato's a little bit of an unknown and it's a slow work day so here's a quick rundown (Mankato / UML).

Conference Record = 2-6-2 / 2-8-0
OOC Record = 0-0-2 / 0-0-2
Total GF/GA = 29/44 / 27/43
Road Record = 1-5-2
Home Record = 2-4-0
Games Played = T, T vs. St Lawrence
L, T @ Michigan Tech
W, L vs. Colorado College
W, T @ UAA
L, L @ UNO
L, L @ Denver

Top Scorer (Pts) = D Kurt Davis (2-8-10) / F Riley Wetmore (4-5-9)
Top Scorer (Goals) = F Eriah Hayes (4-1-5) / F Joseph Pendenza (5-0-5)
Goaltenders = Phil Cook (2-6-2, 3.47, .898), Austin Lee (0-0-2, 3.27, .885) / Doug Carr (2-5-1, 3.12, .910), Marc Boulanger (0-3-1, 3.80, .879)
PP % = 12.1% / 16.4%
PK% = 79.4% / 84.8%

Conclusion = UML's going up against a team with goalies that have sub-.900 save percentages and less than strong special teams (both PP and PK). Shoot often and from everywhere (no more periods with one shot), play aggressive, and really press on the PP. Mankato does have two shorties so the team needs to be better making decisions on the PP. After last weekend, though, I can't imagine it's not something they're working on hard this week.

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

UML Riverhawks on their Facebook posted a new intro video today. I checked it out. Not a big fan of it at all IMO. Mixing Rhianna and Jay-z in it just doesn't sound good. Here is the video if you are interested in checking it out.

http://www.facebook.com/pages/UMass-Lowell-River-Hawks/90359690476#!/video/video.php?v=10150131648857501

Now, I messaged Scott about this before and I found this song before the year started that would be awesome to be played during warmups or their intro video. He said he liked it and would send it to the A/V department. Never Happened. Listen to the song and lyrics and tell me what you think. :D Its called We Are One by 12 Stones. I think this would be better music and a theme song for the team.
