2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

Hopefully they have a decent crowd Friday night at the Tsongas. The crowds for the past couple of games have been disappointing, under 4k for both UVM and UNH. It seems like the student section has dropped off since the home opener. They need to get the students back.

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

Just a few things to spread the word for:

Holiday Skate - Confirmed with Scott Donnelly that it is after the Saturday game vs. Mankato. Remember, this game starts at 4PM not 7PM, with the skate right after.

Princeton trip - Scott Donnelly has tickets for this series. $10 each.

On last week's radio show, Coach said we are playing 2 games at Mankato next year, will be playing in the UConn tournament against RPI, and will have a non-conference game with Brown. No word on other non-conference/travel for 2011-2012 beyond these.

A tiny bit better than this year's non-conference schedule... which doesn't surprise me. I would think Coach is pushing to having a very strong non-conf schedule the following year when these kids are juniors and the expectations for this team have gone up.

If I recall correctly, the winners traditionally play at 7... especially since Storrs is an absolute ghost-town during the tournament... I know, I've been to 4. Now I've got 13 months to figure the best way to work out my christmas travel for 2011. Maybe I'll have a car by then... sure would be nice.

edit: on the other hand, I've spent FAR too many New Years Eve nights in Storrs.

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

More news out of Merrimack today, they signed head coach Mark Dennehy to a six-year contract extension, which will keep him with the Warriors through the 2015-16 season.

I also saw this on Warrior Rink Rat site regarding the radio broadcast from the Tsongas.
I heard from play-by-play voice John Leahy this morning who informs that the phone connection (for the radio feed) would be a bit spotty at Tsongas Center on Friday.

I wish UML would fix this problem. I know the UNH fans were complaining about troubles with their broadcast during their recent visit to the Tsongas.

this has been a problem for YEARS... at this point its really inexcusable considering how much we've put into the building. i always figured it was the radio station's fault though.

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

Hey, as long as WUML comes in clear... who cares?

Lowell desperately needs some points this weekend. Carr seems to have solidified the starting goalie position, hopefully he keeps up what he did against UVM and UNH and the offense gets started. Da Costa seems to be dishing the puck out a lot more now that teams have figured him out a little bit more but they're still getting the goals they need and Cannata has been stellar in net.. .936 save percentage...Yikes!

Anyone know when Soup is supposed to be back?

I've been giving my girlfriend (a 'Mack alum) crap for years with Lowell almost never disappointing me, save for maybe two games in the last five years.. I'll be in for a lot of trash talk if they don't at least split...

Carr is 6th and 5th in GAA and save % respectively in HE play. He's ahead of guys like Rawlings and Madore in both categories, and that includes the 75% save rate and 12 GAA he had in the Maine game to start off his career. To say he's settled down is an understatement.

I wouldn't say that teams have figured him out; BU double and triple teamed him all night last Saturday. He's still one of the league most dangerous players.

The bigger concern is Merrimack has better talent that can score besides him in this league, remember a point is a point. Merrimack's success on the power play last week against BU is a good example.

Edit to correct the dates:

Other hockey note ... UML Women's Field Hockey puts their unbeaten record on the line today at noon against Adelphi (#5 seed) in the NE 10 Semis. The finals would be on Saturday. UML defeated Adelphi 5-1 on November 6th in their only meeting of the season.

I think it makes the Tsongas /UML look bad. Everything about the Tsongas is first class, this should be too. I know I would be frustrated if I couldn't listen to an away broadcasts because of some known problem with phone connections. As Patman mentioned, it's been a problem for a long time, it's time to fix it.

UML up 1-0. The UML site has a live video feed of the game.

Re: 2010/2011 UML In-Season Thread

UML Field Hockey is in the NE-10 Championship game following their 4-2 win today over Adelphi. This was the first time they a) were outscored in a half (second half 2-1) and b) gave up 2 goals in a game.

Merrimack is sponsoring a student fan bus to tonight’s game at UMass Lowell.

General comment... would it kill Bob not to get excited about opponents goals?
