At shootouts, yes, he is so much better. 14/36 is significantly better than 2/18. "I want the puck on my best player's stick when the season is on the line" is cliched sportswriter tripe, you want the player whose skills are best suited to the situation. If the Rangers were killing a penalty late in that game, you'd want your best penalty killers on the ice, not your best players, and in a shootout you want your best shootout takers.

So you pinch hit for Albert Pujols if he is 0-fer against a pitcher for Skip Schumaker whose hitting .400 against that pitcher?

So, I know Sean Avery is a dick, but I don't understand how upset people are getting over the melee in the Rangers-Oilers game today.

It was a pretty dick move, but Smid did challenge Avery, and he did get his gloves off before the punch happened. If Avery had missed that punch and it led to a normal fight no one would care.

Yeah, I don't see how it is a cheap shot as people are proclaiming. I mean, Smid did have the opportunity to throw the first punch, just standing there after challenging someone to a fight is plain stupid on his part.

And somehow Avery will get 5 games for it.

Poor analogy. Hitting is hitting, whereas shootouts are a different skill than regular hockey. (More precisely, a specific subset of overall hockey skills.) Moreover, hitters' performances against specific pitchers are rarely over a large enough sample size to be statistically significant - and not just statistically significant on their own, but of a strong enough significance to outweigh their skills overall. Moreover, if you pinch hit for Pujols then you lose him for the rest of the game, which isn't an issue in the shootout.

Here is some good insight into how corrupt Colin Campbell is....something most fans accept, but to see it so clearly in black and white....

I understand where you're coming from and I have the whole time. I'm just saying if I was the coach I'd sleep better at night knowing Gaborik was the one that took the shot that ended my season rather than Jokinen.

Also, last i checked, the goal of the shootout is still to put the puck in the net and Gaborik did that 40 times last year to Jokinen's 12. :)

Just like the goal of hitting is to hit that white round ball to a place the other team can't catch it.

Well, I don't see how you would, knowing that Gaborik is crappy at shootouts.

The NHL has said they support Campbell. No surprise there. The "ole boys club" will stay together.

Was in New York City this weekend, and nearly bumped into Lundqvist (literally, had I hit him I would knocked the phone out of his hand) while walking past Rockefeller Center and the Rangers jersey unveiling.

Made me wonder how many people could recognize him, because there were several people in jerseys just walking right by.

I'd like to think I would have, but on the other hand I don't tend to notice celebs around here as often as other people do, I think I just tune it out.

I wish Lundqvist would have at least got his money worth from that penalty by breaking his stick across crosby's throat.

I loved the no call when Crosby side swiped Lunqvist when the puck was in the neutral zone and the ref saw it. Great job protecting the goalies, NHL.

How about the no call on Girardi's gashed face?

Yet, my friend texted me and said he was talking to some Pittsburgh fans that thought the refs hosed Pittsburgh.

5 power plays to none...Yeah wonder who got hosed:confused:

Great time at the Garden tonight. B's scored plenty, and a shutout for Timmy. Even had a good fight to get the crowd going.

I bought a Horton Black and Gold jersey tonight. :)
