Sounds awesome. The article said the idea is the brainchild of Brendan Shanahan. Is there anything that the guy is not awesome at?

I think this would be a lot better if they did it like recess kickball and pick them right there on the ice and then play.

That's even worse than all the times he's missed the net by 10 feet.

Chris Stevenson agrees, as do I. ;)

The most intriguing aspect of this whole proposal is the potential of the selection process to make for some good television on Friday night, Jan. 28 from Carolina.

Of course, there has been talk already about a system that will avoid having some forlorn NHLer left standing there on national television (okay, maybe only on cable in the States) as the guy left as the last pick. They're talking about maybe having the players chosen as part of groups so nobody is singled out as the "last guy."

I say that's exactly what you want.

Who can't feel for that guy, even if he is one of the top 50 players in the NHL and making millions of dollars?

It's the cringe moment for which reality TV strives. Who got picked first and who got picked last are the only things anybody will be talking about from that show.

You want to bring a little jam to the all-star game?

You don't think the guy who is the last pick is going to be just a little bit motivated? Of course he is. I'm not saying he'll go out there and run somebody through the boards, but he might try just a touch harder to get his stick on a loose puck around the net so he can say he scored a goal and a bunch of guys chosen ahead of him didn't.

Soooooooo glad he's gone from ATL. It's a shame he made John Anderson lose his job though.

And I still can't believe that Hartley's name is still mentioned for possible coaching jobs.

At least he's better than Gaborik at the shootout. GRRRR!

Yeah especially when he gets a chance with the season on the line in the last game of the regular season.

I don't care how bad he's been or what the numbers say. You put the puck on your best player's stick in that situation and freaking Torts sends out Olli Jokinen who did ABSOLUTELY nothing worthwhile the entire team he was a Ranger.

Gabbo's atrocious at shootouts. At least Olli can hit the net.

No, you don't. You put the puck on the stick of the player whose skills best fit the situation, otherwise it would've been Lundqvist trying to score there. Gaborik sucks at shootouts. How many times does this have to be explained before people will understand? That fact doesn't change just because it's the last game of the season.

I looked it up. I'm still blown away that his in-game shooting percentage is higher than in shootouts. I can't imagine that's a common stat, given the 35% goal percentage average.

Nice to see the Habs beating up on Boston again. That's 6 of the last 7. And boy, that Carey Price sure is trending downward. 2.19 GAA, .923 Save %. Second in the league in wins.

Whoever gave the inspirational speech before the third period of tonight's Bruins game should be shot.

Tired legs, I'm sure. Surprised to see the Bruins giving up so many shots the last couple of games.
