Parise out 3 months after having a torn meniscus repaired during exploratory arthroscopic surgery today. When it rains, it pours. Suck it, NJ.

They weren't going to the playoffs this year, and he wasn't going to be a Devil next season regardless(which is where the Kovy contract really screws them). All it means is that it probably costs them about a draft picks worth of trade value.

But the real question here is how much cap space opens up with Parise on IR?

2010-2011 Sabres looking an awful lot like the 2009-2010 Bruins right now...

What a gong show.

B's are looking fantastic, but Marchand got Luuuuuucky.

Hey, if we can make the playoffs and beat a division rival in the first round and go up 3-0 in the second, I'd be a happy camper right now.

Sharks get shout out for their third straight road game, Thornton gets a 5 minute major and a game misconduct for being tall.

Re: 2010-11 NHL Season part I: Blackhawks Down in Atlanta

So... are the Blues really this good? Furthermore, is Halak really this good?

Re: 2010-11 NHL Season part I: Blackhawks Down in Atlanta

Halak will be a quality goaltender for years to come. As for the Blues, it's a little early to say. Lots of young talent, but probably still a couple years away from really seeing all the pieces fit together for a big year and playoff run.

And I had a buddy (who is a Sharks fan) drive up to Minnesota to see that stinker, and then he drove down to St. Louis for that game (at least they showed heart and emotion in the St. Louis game).

I asked him how pi**ed he was with the performance his team gave him after all the driving he's done... he's formalizing a letter to Doug Wilson and including a bill for tickets and mileage. :D

They're a playoff team, but I don't see them holding on to the division. I will say that they did a pretty good job in the offseason in making sure they have plenty of depth. They're down three d-men and still rolling pretty well.

I'm sure the Atlanta game gave them a scare (but Atlanta is improved too; well, if they play any more like they did against the BJ's last night, they won't make the playoffs).

I wonder if the Habs realized that they may have backed the wrong horse in Carey Price.

I was under the impression that they just didn't want to free up the cap space to pay him because management favors Price, even if the fans think he sucks and is a d-bag. His numbers aren't awful (yet), though they're trending average.

Oof. I'd try that for my past trips to the Joe for Sharks-Wings, but I'm pretty sure I'd be told I know exactly what usually happens when the Sharks play there.

Thornton gets 2 games.

What a load of ****.

Doug Wilson's reaction

First part of your statement is absolutely true; they didn't have the cap space to keep both Halak and Plekanec, so it came down to assest management. Given how thin Montreal is down the middle and that they had Price, it was a reasonable move to make. Whether the timing of the trade was smart or the return was sufficient is an entirely different matter.

As for Price...fans have very much been in his corner since the start of the season. He gets the second largest ovation from the crowd each game (behind Subban). I think you may be taking extrapolating far too much from what happened in the first pre-season game of the year, which was as much an indictment of how the fans felt about management trading the beloved Halak as it was Price's play. As for how Carey's played this year, he's been outstanding.

There's a lot to complain about in Montreal so far, but the play from Carey Price has been a major bright spot. Cammalleri, Gionta, Gomez have all been terrible. Spacek, too. They're not nearly as good as their record would indidcate.

The Rangers-Caps game would be a whole lot better if the refs weren't complete garbage.

Re: 2010-11 NHL Season part I: Blackhawks Down in Atlanta

Brian Boyle???!!!!

Seven goals...Unreal. Showing signs of that guy that was near the top of D-I in scoring while he was at BC.
