2010-11 NHL Season part I: Blackhawks Down in Atlanta

Re: 2010-11 NHL Season part I: Blackhawks Down in Atlanta

I'm starting to see some chatter that Taylor Hall may be assigned to his junior team by the end of the week, before he hits the magic 10 game limit.

"Chatter" doesn't mean it will happen obviously, but I started to think it was possible a few days ago - the kid hasn't exactly been lighting it up. However, I think it would be a mistake. He's only 18, and he's played a grand total of 6 NHL games. If he's going to eventually be the face of the Oilers, he has to stay up with them, learn, and adapt to the NHL.

I think this is a classic example of the Major Junior policy on their players not being eligible for the minor leagues is bad for player development. Hall has clearly mastered the junior game, but he is clearly not ready for the NHL yet either. The AHL is where he belongs, but that isn't available to him for no reason other then his age (18).

Exactly! The "please don't poach our talent" agrement the CHL has with the NHL is hindering this. The Thrashers had a couple kids in the same boat that had to ride out their CHL agreements before playing in the AHL.

I'd send him back if I was Edmonton. The Oilers are going to suck *** this year. No reason to burn one of his ELC years on a 64 point team.

It might not be a mistake to send him back to Windsor. Learning and adapting to the NHL can be a burden for many 18-year olds, especially someone under the microscope like Hall. Some top draft picks in the past have flamed out very quickly, never to be heard from again.

A year ago, Nazem Kadri was being touted as the future "face of the Maple Leafs." He had a pretty decent camp, but Burke and Wilson decided he needed to grow more and sent him back to London.

This pre-season was so-so for him, so he was sent to the Marlies, where he's finally starting to come around.

The timing at least is good for Kadri. Toronto’s offence, stellar over the first four games, has fallen back to earth.

The tendency, with so much attention on the Leafs, is to overreact to the club’s subpar performance on offence. But there is undeniable concern when 12 of the team’s 20 goals have been scored by two players — Phil Kessel and Clark McArthur — while its top two centres, Tyler Bozak and Mikhail Grabovski have failed to score in the first seven games.

Kadri isn’t the answer at the moment. And two games showcasing the magic he has in his hands isn’t enough to overcome the learning he must do on his two-way play.

Patrick Stefan and Alex Daigle say hi.

Way too soon to make the call on Hall though. He probably should be playing in the minors, if that was possible, but it's not.

Have DirecTV and Center Ice... and enjoy laughing any anyone who has Dish Network? Fox has a surprise for you.

Guess what, because Dish Network and Fox are fighting EVERYONE who used to get Fox Sports based channels in their Center Ice package is being blacked out from the games! Comcast, DirecTV, Charter, it doesn't matter.

Fans in South Florida can see 72 Panthers games this season on FOX Sports Florida, as well as hundreds of other teams’ games offered by the NHL’s Center Ice package.

Unfortunately, the decision by another provider, Dish Network, to drop FOX Sports Florida has impacted the availability of some Panthers games on NHL Center Ice for all other distributors, including DirecTV and cable providers.

Looks like Charlie Ergen is being cheap again. :D

Devils look miserable out there. Wow.

Great job by Brodeur on the third one, looking for the call instead of getting over to stop the puck.

If you have Joe Thornton scoring a hat trick on you, you clearly suck. 3 assists? Sure. 3 goals? The hell?

CBC's '22 Minutes' with a report on why the Leafs suck! :D

Good thing we Leafs fans have thick skins and a sense of humor!!

So, I realize we're not very far into the season, and it was the Leafs, but uh, about that "Tim Thomas Sucks!" Club. ;)

Re: 2010-11 NHL Season part I: Blackhawks Down in Atlanta

I don't know how much of this is BS from the Bruins front office, but Thomas' injuries were much more severe than reported last season. BUt I do worry about Rask being on the Raycroft/Blaine Lacher Sophomore Slump From Hell trend.
But please please please bring up PC's own Nolan Schaefer. I loved that guy.

Thomas with yet another shutout...B's roll over Ottawa.

Re: 2010-11 NHL Season part I: Blackhawks Down in Atlanta

Holy crap is Evander Kane good.

Was at the Blues/Thrash game this weekend, and had a great time. What a rocking atmosphere the Scottrade Center has during the game, even with the Blues down, the fans were still getting into it. Loved having the sellout crowd yelling at the ref in the third (never heard a "Ref You Suck!" so loud, so clear, and in unison so well, ever before).

And it was great to see the variety in jerseys while on the concourse. Obviously there are the popular Oshie jerseys, but I saw pretty much a jersey for every player on the roster. And then there was this dude:

He wasn't the only one, I also saw a Red Berenson #7 jersey.
And I saw at couple who had Dallas Drake jerseys.

Going to the B's/Devils in two weeks. PUMPED. First game I'll attend this year, won't be the last...

Last year I only went to three games. Two, however, were playoff games, and both were OT wins. :)

I'm on the North Shore this year, instead of up in Maine, so transportation will be much cheaper.

You're in Duluth/Two Harbors, MN? ;)

Parise out 3 months after having a torn meniscus repaired during exploratory arthroscopic surgery today. When it rains, it pours. Suck it, NJ.
