2010-11 Minnesota Gophers -- May, West Pursue Erie March

Re: 2010-11 Minnesota Gophers -- May, West Pursue Erie March

Not sure if anyone can see this, but found out this information.

This weekend’s games will be televised on the Fighting Sioux Sports Network, Midco Sports Net2 (322), Fox College Sports (Central on Friday and Atlantic on Saturday) and DirecTV (617).

Thanks gopher991. I had found out about the Friday game on my own by using the on screen guide but my search completely missed the Saturday game.

FCSAtlantic is channel 262 on Comcast North Suburbs system (FCSCentral is 263).

Yes, it sure would be sweet to exact a little revenge this weekend, in front of their fans no less.

The Grand Forks point of view...hope the link works.

Good article - especially liked this part:

"The Lamoureux twins were practicing one-timers and the Bulldog players were wide-eyed.

'I had to go tell our guys that if they work as hard as those two do,' Sandelin said, 'that maybe some day they’ll be able to hit one-timers like them, too'."

:)

(just hope none of those one-timers find the mark this weekend)

One-timer? No. But a big slapper from Monique to make it 3-2 in the second period, and a highlight reel spin-o-rama breakaway goal by Jocelyne (ala the MN Wild's Pierre-Marc Bouchard against the Blackhawks in the shootout a couple years ago).

Despite that, the Gophers stake out to 3-0 and 5-2 leads and get a big 5-3 win.

A lot of Sioux fans were very unhappy with the officiating. Funny... if you count the check-from-behind as only a single penalty, each team was whistled 9 times. And the Sioux had two different two-player advantages -- they scored on the first (the aforementioned Monique slapper) but didn't score during the second, longer opportunity, even though they turned into a 1 minute, 40 second 6-on-3 by pulling the goalie. So they couldn't convert on the chances they were given -- officiating had very little to do with it.

Wonderful effort by Amanda Kessel for the unassisted shorty. Add in her second tally of the game later on (during the major power-play) and she deserved the first star of the game.

Despite three goals against on only 19 shots on goal, none of them were soft and Noora played a solid game. It's believed that the first UND goal went in off of a Gopher defender, Noora didn't have a prayer on Monique's shot as she was extremely heavily screened and never saw it, and even I was giving Jocelyne the credit she deserved for her goal (UND's third).

Rematch tomorrow night. Looking forward to locking up the #2 spot in the WCHA standings.

Quick additional note: Laura May did not play due to an injury sustained last weekend. I'm not going to comment on the nature of the injury. But I do expect her to be back next weekend for the WCHA playoffs. Sam Downey moved up to forward on the third line with Brausen and Rasmussen to fill the gap.

Can anyone who has the Fox College Sports package from Comcast give me their cost info? I subscribed last night to watch the games in GF this weekend. I had the package way back when at $5.95 a month but gave it up a couple years ago. I couldn't get a straight answer out of Comcast customer service...which I've found to be typical.

FSSC is part of the "Sports Entertainment" tier which costs me $8 a month. I am not going to shill for Comcast here but this tier includes ESPNews, ESPN Classic, the NHL Network, the NFL Network, NFL RedZone (the ONLY way to watch football IMHO), MLB Network, NBA TV, CBS College Sports, The Tennis Channel, and Fox Soccer Channel (an absolutely essential outlet for anyone following the world's most popular sport). I consider the $8 to be well spent.

Eight bucks a month.

Costly loss last night. Doubtful that the Gophs can now get a home-ice NCAA quarter without winning the WCHA title, and an at-large bid may be at risk if they drop any other games before a WCHA final. With both Cornell and BU looking shakier than they did a few weeks ago, it increases the likelihood that a bubble team can take an autobid, meaning teams sitting at 8 or even 7 in the PWR could wind up watching.

We can question the officiating all we want, but over the course of the season, I think those calls even out. Maybe we are what the numbers continue to say that we are every year -- a team that apparently has difficulty translating "stay out of the box" into action. Given that, we are going to be in trouble in games where the PK doesn't come through.

In happier news, there will be some good viewing opportunities for Gopher fans at the state tourney as Minnetonka, Coon Rapids, Hill-Murray, and Breck all advanced to the X. Irondale and Roseville fell, but we were bound to lose a couple of teams "of interest" because of Gopher recruits playing in the same section.

At least this guy didn't feel compelled to explain to everyone why UMD was the #2 seed like the league (Sara Martin) did in their release regarding the playoffs.
