2010-11 Minnesota Gophers -- May, West Pursue Erie March

Re: 2010-11 Minnesota Gophers -- May, West Pursue Erie March

Lura hopes that the class is remembered as the one that provided comic relief.

“Hopefully, everyone just remembers us as the funny people who worked hard and helped the team out as much as we could,” she said.
If anyone would have had an excuse to mope, it would be Jenny, but she's handled a less-than-ideal situation in a first-class manner.

For those who aren't Power Play Club members, the club website has some information that may be new to you on events such as the Alumnae Game on Saturday and the Senior Night Celebration on February 12. Also, all of the interviews with the first-year players are now online.

Thanks for the tips! And I enjoyed reading the "Meet the Freshmen - Part II" which I hadn't seen before.

Not a lot to say about last night's game. It wasn't that different from the teams' second meeting in October, except that the Gophers finished a lot better last night. It is important to keep the intensity up today.

A full day -

Noon: Alumnae Game
2:30: PPC Chalk Talk
4:07: Hosting SCSU
6:10: PPC Postgame Reception

Congratulations to Ashley Stenerson for netting her first goal as a Golden Gopher today! Great to see a player who has worked so hard finally get rewarded!

Miscellaneous ...

Yesterday's game with the Huskies will be shown on the Big Ten Network on Tuesday at 7 am CST per their schedule.

The win gave the program 20 wins in all 14 seasons. Congratulations on that achievement.

Let's Play Hockey lists New Prague goalie Shyler Sletta as a Gopher commit; we welcome her to the "U".

It was a fun day of hockey at Ridder yesterday, kicked off by the Alumnae Game with about 20 ladies participating including Bills, Blankenship, C. Brodt, W. Brodt, Darwitz, Francis, Hanlon (G), Harms (G), Horak, Horton, K. Johnson, Maunu, Otto, Philipczyk, Pone, Retelle, Sanchez, Scholz, Slominski, and Wendell. The Gold team, coached by Frost, slipped by Darwitz' Maroon squad 8-7 on a late penalty-shot goal by Pone. For others who saw the contest, please feel free to chime in with omissions, inaccuracies or added details.

One of my favorite memories of Gopher hockey over the years is teammates helping to get a player her first Gopher goal and the spontaneous joy of those celebrations; yesterday's was no exception.

Re: 2010-11 Minnesota Gophers -- May, West Pursue Erie March

Tomcikova has been known to be shaky in her visits to Ridder Arena... in six starts (four regular season games and two WCHA quarterfinal games), she's yielded 26 goals to the Gophers. She also yielded 5 more at Ridder against UMD in last season's WCHA semifinal.

Hopefully the Gophers will see more of that this weekend.

I just spent a couple of minutes with my Comcast on screen program guide and can report that Friday's game will air on Fox College Sports Central. That's channel 263 where I live (what Comcast refers to as "North Suburbs").

FSSC is part of the "Sports Entertainment" tier which costs me $8 a month. I am not going to shill for Comcast here but this tier includes ESPNews, ESPN Classic, the NHL Network, the NFL Network, NFL RedZone (the ONLY way to watch football IMHO), MLB Network, NBA TV, CBS College Sports, The Tennis Channel, and Fox Soccer Channel (an absolutely essential outlet for anyone following the world's most popular sport). I consider the $8 to be well spent.

The Saturday game is NOT listed on the program guide.

Noora Raty set a single-season shutout school record.

Congrats to Noora! Great job! Let's add a few more to the total!

I don't get FSSC but I did just set the DVR to Big Ten HD for Wednesday at 1:00 pm, as I was out of town and missed both games this past weekend. Also for anyone wanting to do a little scouting of North Dakota I see where BTN has the Badger-Sioux game on Wednesday at 9:00 am.
