2009 MN Twins Part 4: I Was Told There Would Be No Math

Re: 2009 MN Twins Part 4: I Was Told There Would Be No Math

...Does anyone else just enjoy watching Gomez play?...

I hate it. It typically means we are giving ourselves less of a chance to win. That said as fast as he was running last night, I think he would have scored from first on Casilla's base hit.

Re: 2009 MN Twins Part 4: I Was Told There Would Be No Math

I wonder if anyone ever considered that they might have to modify the "100 Greatest Moments at the Metrodome" countdown that they've been doing all season.:p

Re: 2009 MN Twins Part 4: I Was Told There Would Be No Math

Any truth to the rumor that Brett Favre is pitching and batting cleanup tonight?

Really? I like watching him a lot and I hope he can correct some of the issues in his game so he can be an everyday kind of guy.

It's a given Gardy will move Span to right and Gomez to center late in games.

While the Twins give a little at the plate with Gomez in the lineup I think it's worth it to ensure Kubel's bat remains in the four slot for the entire game. To me the dropoff at the 7/8 slot with Gomez batting instead of Morales (totally lost yesterday and a really tough lefty going for the NYY today) or Harris isn't that huge. The upside is Mauer should see more pitches late in the game with Kubel behind him and MN is much better defensively the entire game.

Re: 2009 MN Twins Part 4: I Was Told There Would Be No Math

Randy Marsh missed the entire game. Which is too bad since he was supposed to be the home plate ump.

Apparently you did as well. Marsh did a fine job last night. In fact, other than Baker and Porcello, he may have had the best night on the Metrodump floor last night.

What a horrible excuse for a game that was. Two teams that refused to win the game all night long. Bad managing, bad execution, bad decisions.

The Yankees ought to be licking their chops today. They have 0 legit challengers in the AL this year.

Do you know anything about baseball? The guy was inconsistent ALL night. The strike zone was shrinking, then ballooning, then shrinking again. The strike 3 to Polanco in the ninth was maybe 10 inches off the plate. LL umps don't give those calls.

And then the guy had no integrity, after watching the replay that CLEARLY shows the ball hitting Inge's jersey he says the replay is inconclusive. Be a man and own up to your mistake Randy. That's what real men do.

And I was rooting for the Twins: he was terrible both ways.

It was way inside, but I think Mauer did as good a job stealing that pitch as he ever has. Watching it live, I thought it was a good pitch, only on replay did I realize it was off. I wouldn't put too much stock in that Pitch Tracker or whatever TBS called that thing they were using last night. It looked like random dots.

The one good thing about the blown call with Inge, it wasn't like the call ended the threat. Inge still is up there with bases full, 1 out, and strikes left. Hit a routine fly to Delmon Young and let him miss it or throw it into the 3rd row behind HP and the Tigers are getting ready to play a game right now.

It wasn't even close to the plate. And he hadn't been calling pitches there all game.

The blown call for Inge was huge. It was a run for the Tigers. How can you try and marginalize it?

Re: 2009 MN Twins Part 4: I Was Told There Would Be No Math

I don't think he's trying to marginalize the call, he's just pointing out Inge still had an opportunity to make something happen. What is interesting is if Inge had delivered with a big hit on the next pitch MN fans would have been mad the ump missed the HBP call, especially with Laird up next. :)

Re: 2009 MN Twins Part 4: I Was Told There Would Be No Math

Because missed calls are part of the game. Once the call is made, you move on. Nobody would remember the blown call by Denkinger in the 1985 series if the Cards hadn't imploded. Fans can afford to blame umpires. Players should never give themselves that out.

Re: 2009 MN Twins Part 4: I Was Told There Would Be No Math

So wait...TBA is criticizing how a game is officiated...I know I am shocked how about you guys?? ;) :D

I may have had a horrible angle from inside the Dome but I had no issues with the strike zone.

It's easy to say move on. He was clearly hit. It's hard to get back into an AB mentally after you think you've gotten the go ahead run across.

You're really acting like the couch coach here. :D

And see GE, he was marginalizing it. I guarantee that if the call went the other way you guys would have all gone batty.

Re: 2009 MN Twins Part 4: I Was Told There Would Be No Math

So why is it only you going batty and not the Detroit fans? Just saying :D

I think they're still shell shocked that their team found a way to choke that even the 2007 Mets could not surpass.

And I'm not going batty. I'm just pointing out that the umpire was terrible both ways and that it was disingenuous of ARM to marginalize the bad call. GE tried to defend ARM, but ARM even admits to marginalizing a bad call that was big for you guys, that's made 999 times out of 1000.

Re: 2009 MN Twins Part 4: I Was Told There Would Be No Math

If an umpire is bad both ways he is consistent at least...that is fine by me. Listening to people whine about officials is old and tired and 75% of the time complete BS anyways.

You complain about everything besides the umpires. How can you talk like you have any credibility about whining?

At this time of the year, everything is hard. If he's not up to it, he can join us on a couch.

No Greyeagle was right. I started my original post by saying "the one good thing". For an educated guy you have trouble reading.:p So GE right, TBA wrong, final answer.
