I wish Carolina would get the okay to wear the Hartford Whalers jerseys again sometime...

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Season Thread 2: Its all going up in flames!

Then they are morons. No offense. :)

I'll start giving a **** about team USA on any level when two things happen:
1. We win a gold medal.
2. PC actually finds a way to recruit a player capable of making that team.

I'm sorry. They're professional players now.

Blues axe Murray; Name Peoria's coach as interim head coach.

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Season Thread 2: Its all going up in flames!

I thought that was really pathetic. USA > who he plays for.

I did not appreciate the booing either. That's all I'm going to say about that, those fans had to check themselves, it's about Team USA not about the guy they have a hard on for hating. Komisarek heard it too and it's equally as cringe-inducing.

If it's an All-Star Game announcement being made, fine, boo the bloody hell out of him. This is country though - this is different. Support your team.

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Season Thread 2: Its all going up in flames!

Not to mention he wasn't there...they booed a 7 year old you stay classy Boston!

I am surprised Eruzione and his big fat ego weren't there to suck up all the spotlight ;) :p :D

Especially since they made such a big deal of the whole 30 years since the 80 games thing. I thought it was actually illegal to discuss the 1980 Olympic Games without the express written consent and/or appearance of Mike Eruzione.

Although maybe Jim Craig's appearance counted enough since that's the only time anyone ever hears from him.

He was probably somewhere in Fenway hammered out of his mind.

Doesn't the city of Hartford own the rights to the Whalers? I doubt they'd ever allow the city that stole their team to use the Whalers jerseys.

And having the Stars wear the N in Minnesota would be the worst idea ever. I love the jerseys, but the Stars should never ever be wearing them. I would love to see the Wild wear them, but that would never happen either. :(

NHL cut a deal with Connecticut - Whalers gear is more than readily available everywhere now.

Cutting a deal with the NHL to sell the jerseys is one thing, but they'd still have to make a deal for the Canes to wear the jerseys, and I really don't see that ever happening.

The NHL got the rights to use the logo again - they can do just about whatever they want to.

The Wild shouldn't wear them either, as they are not the same "franchise," IMO.

Hmm, I thought the deal wasn't that extensive, just for jerseys and other replica merchandise. It seems odd that Hartford would make sure to obtain the rights to the Whalers then just give them up like that.

Money talks and I'm sure that Connecticut is getting a nice cut from sales of Whalers merch. I don't think you'll ever see the Hurricanes wear Whalers throwbacks though, there's a reason why they re-named the team when they moved.

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Season Thread 2: Its all going up in flames!

It would make sense for Rangers/Capitals next year.

New York is the heavy favorite to host and have it in Yankee Stadium...

The Winter Classic has yet to feature the game's best player yet so the Caps would make a perfect opponent.

I could also see the Canadians as a sensible opponent for an original six match-up.

mulletrose talked all about nyc hosting it ("they have to do it") and added that he wanted wash there to bring ovech/caps on sportscenter last night

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Season Thread 2: Its all going up in flames!

Did the Oilers stiff a Calgary restaurant? CBC reports they may have:

Some hockey fans are bristling while others are crowing with glee online over allegations that Edmonton Oilers players refused to pay the full cost of a nearly $17,000 night out at an upscale Calgary restaurant.

Opinions on team message boards and blogspots vary, with some saying the team members earn big money playing hockey and should have paid the full cost of their early New Year's Eve party.

But others say the players have been treated unfairly and accused the eatery's management of trying to gain publicity by going public with the allegations.

Carolina wearing Whalers gear, Phoenix wearing Jets gear, Colorado wearing Nordiques gear, Dallas wearing North Stars gear, etc. etc... = anger.

On the HNIC Hot Stove tonight Pierre LeBrun said Ted Leonsis wants the Caps in next year's game. Elliot Freedman said Jerry Jones wants the 2011 Winter Classic at his new Cowboys playpen!
