Re: 2009-2010 NHL Season Thread 2: Its all going up in flames!

 You need to lighten up.

You need to deal with the fact that some people think team USA > team loyalties. Sorry, Kessel isn't even there and you're booing a child wearing his jersey?

You'd probably be the first person kvetching if the Classic was at Yankee Stadium and they were doing this booing some Boston player when he's named to the USA team. :D

Did NBC finally get rid of Pierre, or is he just gone at the WJC?

You don't know me at all because if New York fans didn't boo a Boston player in that instance I would be completely disappointed in them. This was an NHL event loaded with Bruins fans. This was NOT a USA Hockey event. It was tacked on at the end because NBC is doing the Olympics. The fans there could give a **** about USA > team loyalties.

You could probably play Quick/Thomas against Norway, but everyone knew Miller would be and will be the starter for pretty much the whole tournament.

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Season Thread 2: Its all going up in flames!

LOL at the booing of Kessel.

I thought it was funny also, Bruins fans hate him. It has nothing to do him making the team, it has to do with his feelings about the Bruins

Howard has been pretty good...its the Quick pick that I don't understand.

You obviously haven't watched Quick over the past month. Quick has played more NHL level minutes and games than Howard. The only other real consideration was probably Anderson.

I thought Anderson would be picked to be honest, but Howard has played really well and even in limited time isn't that what a third goalie slot is for?

But I guess Quick will be a fine back-up.

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Season Thread 2: Its all going up in flames!

I saw this rumor posted on another board with regards to next year's Winter Classic:

I read an intriguing idea for next year's Classic featuring the Stars and Wild playing in Minneapolis. The Wild would wear a 3rd sweater and the Stars would wear the old North Stars sweaters.

Anyone else hear this?

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Season Thread 2: Its all going up in flames!

The 1st page and a half on google for "2011 Winter Classic" deal with primarily the Rangers and Capitals, and then there's a handful of articles about the Wild. Didn't look farther than that.

Ugh, Drury? NOOOO.

Umm, excuse me, he's like the NHL's version of Captain Intangibles himself, Derek Jeter. Stats and data and proof are irrelevant. Brian Burke was just going with his gut! Stephen Colbert would be proud.

In fact, how was Derek Jeter not selected for the Olympic team? Snub!

Seriously, that was really cool, doing that with the kids the way they did, and then for Thomas to come out, on his own, wearing the USA sweater, it was a good moment and a cool epilogue for a great day for the sport and for the NHL.

EDIT: What might have been even cooler is if all the lights had gone out, followed by some sort of metal guitar version of O Canada, and then...

JIM ROSS: Wait! That's Sidney Crosby's music!

JERRY 'THE KING' LAWLER: "AAAAH! He's got a steel chair!"

ROSS: Crosby, with the steel chair! (Thwack) No! No! **** it! No!

CROSBY: (takes microphone while standing with one skate on Thomas's back): Good luck. You're going to be in our house now. (Drops mic on the ice and skates away)

(Cut to NBC logo)

It would make sense for Rangers/Capitals next year.

New York is the heavy favorite to host and have it in Yankee Stadium...

The Winter Classic has yet to feature the game's best player yet so the Caps would make a perfect opponent.

I could also see the Canadians as a sensible opponent for an original six match-up.

Uh, the hockey media would disagree with you. The Pens have played an outdoor game.

Ovechkin is great and all that, but Sidney Crosby is to Jesus Christ as Gretzky is to God. At least that's the media byline.

Except logistical problems will be abound with this idea, since, you know, theres a bowl game "between Christmas and New Years" and it takes ~1 week to set up the surface.

And Montreal is probably out of the rotation for now since their game in Edmonton a few years ago.

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Season Thread 2: Its all going up in flames!

Have the Stars ever worn a North Stars jersey since arriving in Dallas?

I don't believe so. I think that I read somewhere in the past that they want to be considered "their own franchise" or something stupid like that.

However, a game at TCF would be pretty sweet, although I'd prefer an old-school matchup of MN-CHI. ;)
