Re: 2009-2010 NHL Season Thread 2: Its all going up in flames!

Intimidate more?

Nash-Crosby-Iginla
Heatley-Thornton-Marleau for scoring lines

Staal-Getzlaf-Perry is a very good defensive line

Toews-Richards-Morrow for grit with Bergeron as the extra and an excellent face-off man.

It's a gold medal caliber team playing on their home ice.

I would argue for Toews to center a scoring line but... who would you take off the first two lines to make that happen?

A very solid team... though I'm not sure I'd put DOughty in and leave Phaneuf out.

I think any team would be lucky to have Toews centering a scoring line, and he'd be fine in between Nash and Iginla if you really needed it. But he's so disciplined, so responsible, and so strong on the puck that a team is even more fortunate if they can let him center a shutdown line. Without question, he's one of the most versatile forwards in the league, and he'll do any job they ask capably.

Anyone else notice an odd geographic tendency with the Canadian Olympic Roster? All from BC are defencemen, all from the Plains provinces are forwards, and Bergeron is the only Quebecer that isn't a goalie.

The way I've heard it, Bouwmeiester was the last D-man out.

The way I heard it, they just wanted Drew Doughty to play for team Canada, but figured they'd give the rest of the world a shot at gold and surround him with a bunch of shlubs.

I heard Nabokov planned on sneaking into his teammates houses the night before the tournament starts and moving their calenders up two months.

Maybe this is why Phaneuf was left out :D

5 and a game. Phaneuf is not a great defenseman. Phaneuf is a good defenseman who doles out a lot of borderline hits and keeps other teams looking backwards. International hockey doesn't take very kindly to this kind of stuff ;)

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Season Thread 2: Its all going up in flames!

I'd rather have Bouwmeester, Green, and maybe even Regehr on the team instead of Phaneuf. I don't believe he was that close to making it.

The Calgary fans were dumb enough to boo Kopitar throughout the rest of the game, too. Idiots.

Thanks NBC for the top notch production work for the Winter Classic Pre-game crap. Wouldn't expect anything better.

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Season Thread 2: Its all going up in flames!

The weather report looks pretty crappy for the Winter Classic on Friday. I'm sure NBC is freaking out a bit.

Opposite Girl strikes again! :) It's an awesome day for the Winter Classic here in Boston. My dad got an email from the Sox a few days ago offering the chance to buy last minute tickets and I said "You couldn't pay me to go to that game and in sit in that awful weather!", which at that time looked pretty bad. Glad I verbalized it. The Bruins, Flyers and NHL can thank me later!

What were you watching, and when? The local NBC affiliate had a half hour pre-game show from 12:30-1pm. Did the network run something else?

The Geico Lizard in the ref jersey rules.

Thats what that's supposed to be? I thought they let the real Dick Clark out of his cryogenically frozen state for an extra 12 hours this year.

11:30 to Noon Central Time... looked like it was a simulcast of the local feed's pre-game show (similar to what NBC Chicago did last season). Pretty low quality considering the parent company's HD equipment was in-house.

I was kinda shocked when at 11:45, the local guys said they were "about an hour" from puckdrop. NBC's turning this into Nascar.

Not sure I like the blimp cam. They used it for too long at one point.

Great day for the game. I forgot JVR played for Philly

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Season Thread 2: Its all going up in flames!

A packed Fenway in the middle of winter sure does look pretty.

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Season Thread 2: Its all going up in flames!

The way goalies are babied its baffling that Hartnell knocking Thomas down wasn't a penalty.

But Thomas retaliating is stupid.

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Season Thread 2: Its all going up in flames!

Stupid Thomas.

I thought they were going to announce the Olympic team in the first intermission.
