Some very curious selections for Sweden's team. Leaving off Franzen isn't a surprise, he probably wouldn't have been able to play in the first place.

Calling Modin curious is probably the nicest thing anyone's said about him this year. The 12 forwards and 8 d-men when one of your twelve is Peter "glass statue" Forsberg is confuzzling as well.

Current forecast for Friday shows 38 degrees and lots of rain. Will they play in the rain? I can see them playing in the snow, but rain??

38 degrees and rain could play hell on the ice, that's for sure.

Ew.... That would be hell on the ice surface...

Has a Hockey game ever been postponed due to rain?

For a 0-0 game on Versus, this Jackets/Wings affair has held my interest pretty well. Mason and Howard with some rediculous saves--especially there in the 2nd and that last one that got thrown off of Mason's back

EDIT: Being from Minnesota, I'm thinking there is something else I should be watching tonight in this time slot? I've checked the other channels--nope, nothing I'd rather be watching :p

So Modin goes and gets his first of the year in OT of a 0-0 game. Hah.

Buried in this column is the greatest threat to the Winter Classic, the NHL.

I'm a little worried with the apparent expansion to two games that the runaway train to a full annual slate of 10-15 Winter "Classics" has now been set up. I thought Bettman had shown some good sense for once by choosing historic venues in traditional hockey cities, but something tells me in 5 years we'll be looking at Ducks-Kings live from the LA Coliseum in biting 63 degree weather.

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Season Thread 2: Its all going up in flames!

I listened to the third period of the Flames/Oil game last night on the drive back to Illinois. Thought a 2-1 game would make for great radio. Instead, I was treated to an abortion of a game by the Oilers where I don't think the play by play guy will last the season. I have never heard an announcer call out lazy players and lack of effort as much as the Oil pbp guy. you would hear boos in the background and he would explain how each player being booed was sucking.

So, it wasn't as good of a game as I thought it would be, but I was still entertained.

Canada released its Olympic roster today...some very glaring ommissions. To be honest, the Canadian team doesnt scare me as much as I thought it was going to on paper.

Dont get me wrong..they are good...especially on the backend with defense and goaltending but I thought their roster was going to intimidate me more than it did when it finally came out.

Uh, Edmonton is only being outclassed in suck by Carolina, and even that won't last long. They've lost 7 straight games, and are about to lose one tonight to the Leafs. Management hasn't quite caught on to the fact that this team is a bunch of losers who can't play hockey, and are still blaming the suck on injuries. At least the fans are starting to boo them, hopefully they'll stop buying tickets too

Intimidate more?

Nash-Crosby-Iginla
Heatley-Thornton-Marleau for scoring lines

Staal-Getzlaf-Perry is a very good defensive line

Toews-Richards-Morrow for grit with Bergeron as the extra and an excellent face-off man.

It's a gold medal caliber team playing on their home ice.

If a Canadian fanbase stops buying tickets, the team will get moved to Las Vegas. You know this.

This sounds like the Bills.

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Season Thread 2: Its all going up in flames!

Huh. The Germans have about 10 NHL players, and two of them (Schubert and Hecht) aren't on their Olympic roster. Idiots.

Philly is throttling the Rangers 3-0 after one. Tortorella looked like he was going to cut someone.
