Penguins play-by-play man Paul Steigerwald generally sucks but even he found a way to out-do himself.

I'll give him a pass on that one. He sounded to me like it was one of those "I knew it was a bad idea when I started saying it, but it came out anyways" sort of things. Then it seemed to me like he was more laughing at the disbelief that he actually said something so stupid, not at Hobey Baker dying in a plane crash.

Mind you, I'm not offended by this - it's just brutally f-cking stupid. Mike Lange should still be doing Pens games on TV.

Huh. Well, that was pretty much a version of "This is why neither Chicago and San Jose will win the Stanley Cup."

Sharks looked like crap, and Huet gave up 3 goals on his first 9 shots.

Blackhawks directed 72 shots towards goal (47sog, 17bs, 13ms) to San Jose's 32 (14, 13, 5).

Huet's been terrific since mid-October, especially at home. 11-1-0 with a 1.58 GAA and a .932S% in the last 12 at the United Center. He'll be fine.

The most telling number, even accounting for the subjectivity? A season-high 8 giveaways for Chicago, one of which led directly to Thornton's shorthanded goal.

His numbers this year have been stellar, but when you go from absolute suck to this good... you have to wonder if it will last.

As for the Pens announcers... well... let's say this:

He has plenty of reason to laugh at his own stupidity. There's just so much stupid he has to say it's not surprising to me at all he said it. He is an incredibly daft man.

But yeah, his Penguin games are like this: Crosby is on the ice! I think I creamed my shorts! Oh wait! Crosby is off the ice on a change! NOOOOOOOO bring him back! I am going to cry! OH YEAH! Here comes Crosby! He's got it in the zone! He's OH NO, the [opposing player] took it away from him! That should be a penalty shot! He got checked! That player should be ejected! CROSBY SCORES!!!! *passes out due to intense orgasm*

DISCLAIMER: No, I am not a "hater" of Crosby. I think he's a darn fine hockey player and, at this pace, a sure fire HOFer. I dislike everything the media does around him. He's not a god. He's not Gretzky. Let's let him play and enjoy what he does on the ice before crowing him the King of Hockey.

So, the Penguins certainly destroyed the Senators. I was shocked to learn that it was the first time that Pittsburgh defeated Ottawa in regulation at home since 2001. Crazy.

That is what the guy calling the game said anyway, I didn't do any fact checking.
