Re: 2009-2010 NHL Season Thread 2: Its all going up in flames!

He seemed like a nice enough guy, but completely redundant with Staubitz and McLaren on the team. He'll also be pointless in the playoffs, so good move for freeing up cap space regardless of what round.

That strikes me as funny. I'm sure the guys he beats on think the same way. :D

***? They traded Leddy?

Unfreakingbelievable. Screw the entire franchise.

Definitely an odd trade.

Chicago, instead of dumping salary, gets themselves even closer to the ceiling this year making it harder to make other, smarter moves, but get a few mil in breathing room next season, even though they're still pretty screwed next season. But they get a mid first rounder out of the deal, which is surprising.

Not sure why MN makes this trade, they only get a 2nd pairing defensemen signed until 2011/2012 for a meh price and lose an actual prospect. They don't have cap issues this year, but would need to replace Johnsson next season, so why not wait until the offseason?

That Shelley acquisition really helps the Rangers defense and goal scoring issues. I guess their new plan is to just start fights all game every game.

The trading of Leddy does make me think. I'm not irate about it, but I just don't get it. Especially with Johnsonn involved, and with the timing of it.

Why did they pick Leddy so much higher than projected? Is Barker that good? Can he move the puck as well as Johnsonn? Many questions. I still trust in Fletcher at this point, maybe he sees something I don't.

Actually, I am willing to bet he does. He has the GM job after all, not me.

Does Sather want to be ridden out of town?

Yes, I think he does. Or really, he just doesn't care anymore, so he's throwing everything against a wall and hoping he gets lucky.

Smarter moves? This is exactly the type of player that Chicago wanted, while dealing a superfluous piece that was ill-suited for the role he was filling this year, and who would certainly have been traded after the season.

Precisely.

Well then you are in great shape!

We all know Johnsson will end up somewhere else after this season. You picked up a decent puck mover that can skate well. He plays a big part of breaking out of your own zone, and has a pretty good shot on the PP.

Hopefully Barker pulls a Latendresse and plays to his full potential when he puts on a Wild sweater.

Barker was outstanding last season. Unfortunately he was relegated to third pairing minutes this year, and because of Duncan Keith's emergence as an offensive force, also lost almost all of his time on the power-play. As a result, he lost confidence.

He's big, mobile, and accurate from the point. I think with increased minutes his confidence will pick back up and he'll be a weapon. He's not the most defensively responsible player yet, which is why he was a bad fit on the third-pairing, especially with Brent Sopel. Covering for Sopel's lack of footspeed changed Barker's perspective, and his game, for the worse. If he was playing Brian Campbell's role this year, on the PP and paired with Hjalmarsson, I think this season would have been quite different.

Wow overreact much. My lord talk about a crybaby reaction because they traded a Minnesota Boy.

They got value for a guy they were going to lose to free agency and moved a player that wouldnt be on the squad for a few years AT BEST...but yeah screw them they suck!

I will trust Fletcher to know what is more valuable to the team than you, someone who barely cares about NHL hockey anyways.
