Gaborik's knee cut by Lundqvist's skate in practice....

***....

Doesnt sound like any tear or severe laceration but still...Gaborik will probably miss all three games this week because it's Marian Gaborik..

Stitches on the knee, according to Jim Cerny on Twitter. That's got to kill. And I would doubt he plays, since bending a knee with stitches can't be good for the healing process.

The Rangers are hosed. 0-6 on points this week. And I'm going to the TB game. The last thing I want to witness in person is the Rangers being destroyed by the Lightning.

Not to mention Gaborik is the stud on my fantasy hockey team that i got in the fourth round this year because everyone was scared of his injury issues.

I'm in first place right now but only up on 2nd and 3rd by 1 game and 1.5 games respectively.

This is the final week of the regular season and regular season winner gets $100 as well as top two getting a bye through the first round.

Losing Gaborik is going to screw me especially when the guy I'm playing this week has Ovechkin.

The Edmonton Oilers formally announced today they're moving their AHL franchise from Springfield, MA to Oklahoma City.

Also, owner of the Albany River Rats Walter Robb will be selling the team to the owner of the ECHL Charlotte Checkers and the team will move to Charlotte and continue to be the farm team of the Carolina Hurricanes.

Worst kept secret in hockey (well, at least around here). I'm very happy about this.

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Season Thread 2: Its all going up in flames!

OK City finally gets their team, do NYI fans breath a little easier or do they believe another city is going to poach their team?

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Season Thread 2: Its all going up in flames!

OK City was never in the running to get an NHL club, it was used mainly as posturing by those that wanted to see any crappy NHL club move.

There has been discusion about OKC to the AHL right after Iowa joined. The Oilers to OKC is the worst kept secret ever, second to Quad City getting the Flames AHL club three years ago.

I'm wondering how the East coast AHL clubs will shake out. This is a HUGE year for the AHL. This must be how it felt in 2002 when the IHL six joined.

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Season Thread 2: Its all going up in flames!

Kansas City's got to be the elephant in the room for the NYI fanbase.

IIRC, Springfield and Lowell are the two worst drawing AHL franchises. Also, losing Springfield won't help Lowell which to me isn't a bad thing.

---

OKC and the NHL may have been posturing but I believe they had a low minor team drawing really well... we shall see what happens.

---

I agree though... Kansas City is the pressure point and it also reminds me how much I hate the NHL owners. I have no confidence in the owners to do anything that makes sense because they're all about business posturing.

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Season Thread 2: Its all going up in flames!

I've heard Seattle bandied about a few times as well. Of course the Canadians will throw Winnipeg, Southern Ontario, or Quebec City into any discussion.

Kansas City has a building already in place and they've been networking with the NHL the whole time... that's what makes them different than idle chatter. If a city and a team were to fall out then Kansas City is there all ready to go. That makes it different than the other options... Hamilton needs upgrades, Quebec City needs a new arena, Winnipeg would need corporate sponsors plus some upgrades... etc. Kansas City could take a team "tomorrow" more or less.

Oh I didn't say I agreed with the Canucks:p

Either way, NYI is really the only franchise where this threat to relocate has any sting or any purpose.

Raise your hand if you've done this before.

I'm guilty, but I never did it in a game.

I've totally done it, but never in a game. They don't leave the locker room now!

With the rest of the NBC Olympic broadcast schedule being released, we got to find out what NBC will be showing instead of the USA v. Canada game.

Men's Giant Slalom and Ice Dancing.

Yup.

Remember, NBC is the broadcast partner the NHL bends over for whenever possible. The USA-Canada game will be carried, instead, on MSNBC which many folks do not have offered to them in high definition.
