Re: 2009-2010 NHL Season Thread 2: Its all going up in flames!

Connecticut breaking news chose the last minute of regulation of the Caps/Pens game to cut in. But everything prior to that was a great game!

What a game. 14 in a row.

Turning point was the Caps killing off that 5 on 3 at the beginning of the third - that was huge.

Bruins up 2-0 on the Habs...we have them right where we want them! :D

Habs have a press conference slated for 4 pm. Rumor is that Bob Gainey is stepping down as GM. If they end up making Jacques Martin the GM... Look the F out, the downfall begins.

Markov to the Sharks for Huskins and Clowe....make it happen!

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Season Thread 2: Its all going up in flames!

Apparently Gainey is voluntarily stepping down as GM of the Canadiens and assistant GM Pierre Gauthier is taking over.

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Season Thread 2: Its all going up in flames!

Any interest in Carey Price instead? :)

Actually I think he'd do well outside of Montreal, so I'll take Markov and Price for Huskins, Clowe, Greiss, and Mitchell.

He can spell Nabby a decent amount down the stretch, and take over the team next season. We have Markov for another season, all that freed up money goes to Patty and Pavs (and Malhotra), and we still stumble in the playoffs for years to come!

Seems fair to me.

For a 2nd round pick with no salary dump? Um, what?!?!

Hello LTIR Vlasic.

Wallin is Huskins mk2. He'll be the first UFA re-signed by the Sharks using money that should go to Marleau and company. Write it down now.

I think Molson gave him a "quit or we'll fire you" ultimatum. Pierre Gauthier will be named interim GM.

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Season Thread 2: Its all going up in flames!

I hate to say this in wake of recent events, but Gainey's work went downhill after his daughter died. Whether or not there is a correaltion; I'm not sure...but between that and all the ridiculous stuff from last year, I wouldn't be surprised if he lost his desire for the job.

As for the timing, I think it's a combination of a couple of factors that have been mentioned: loss of interest in the role as well as poor perfromance over the past 18 months.
