2009-2010 NHL Season Thread 2: Its all going up in flames!

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Season Thread 2: Its all going up in flames!

I've finally found a reason to take interest in Bruins games. They're the only thing between the Islanders and the longest losing streak in the NHL... :(

The Kovy deal is really weird. If I'd had to list all the team by likelihood of picking him up, NJ would have been about 27th.

Thanks for the research Eagles. So basically the last 4 drafts have produced no everyday players for the B's (except Lucic), since Kessel is no longer with the team.

Yup. Zach Hammil's time to make it the team seems to be winding down. It's been three years since he was taken in the first round and not much has come of it.

A permanent residence in Providence with all other Bruins draft picks isn't anything?

I kid, I kid...

Since Army will be the next B's coach, I guess that's an apt comparison. :D

I read somewhere that the last 18 B's picks have not reached the NHL yet. Is that true? If so that puts playing for draft picks in a whole new light.

The Rangers are around that too...:o

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Season Thread 2: Its all going up in flames!

You're assuming Wilson doesn't offer him a 3 year 2.2 million per deal after he comes over.

Chuck Kaiton was on 99.9 The Fan late today and told Mike Maniscalco that the trade sending Niclas Wallin to San Jose was close to being completed, but was still not finalized. The problem? Wallin's agent was negotiating a contract extension with Sharks GM, Doug Wilson.

According to Kaiton, he believed that the Sharks wanted to sign the big defenseman for a longer term than Wallin originally wanted. Apparently, the Swede did not want to sign a deal for longer than one year, but Wilson wants two. Plus, there is still a small matter of dollars and cents to be agreed upon as well.

The "Hall of Fame Voice" of the Hurricanes said that the return would be a good one for the Carolina organization, reportedly a second round draft pick. But to give up that much, Wilson wanted to make sure he could lock up "The Swede" for longer than a year.

Oh ****.

Boston businessman Jeff Vinik will buy the Lightning, according to the Detroit News.

Brendan Burke, son of Brian Burke, died in a car accident today. So sad. :( I remember being so moved by this article about him.

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Season Thread 2: Its all going up in flames!

Detroit trades Ville Leino to Philadelphia for Ole-Kristian Tollefsen and a 5th round pick.

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Season Thread 2: Its all going up in flames!

HFboards is essentially Philly and Detroit fans arguing about which guy sucks more. Hilarious.

Edit: The part where the 5th round pick is the "best asset in the deal" is also good.

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Season Thread 2: Its all going up in flames!

Strictly a cap move for Detroit since Johan Franzen is coming off the IR soon.

Leino has been a wild disappointment for Detroit, I really thought he was going to be a breakout guy this year. Instead he's tried to coast on his talent and not work hard for anything. Either he'll continue to fail in Philly or he'll snap out of it and be like Robert Lang and find ways to haunt Detroit.

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Season Thread 2: Its all going up in flames!

Boston really has no idea how to put a game away, do they?

They've blown more opportunities to score than I have. It's starting to get depressing now. I think there's a reason why Charlie Brown wore black & gold...

10 in a row for Boston....

Habs up 3-2 on the defending champs, despite dressing 6 forwards who started the year in Hamilton.

Ran the Preds 5k this morning. Had a beer after the game, and on the way back to the parking garage, ran into Devin Setoguchi.

Awesome. I really need to get down to Nashville to see a game at some point.
