Re: 2009-2010 NHL Season Thread 2: Its all going up in flames!

Any Sharks move for Kovalchuk would be pure rental, probably Clowe, + Huskins/Murray, +Mitchell/Couture and possibly a pick, with the assumption that McGinn or some other kid would take Clowe's spot next year and that the money that currently would be going to Clowe would be put together with the Blake money to spread around raises and to decide Nabokov's future.

I'd be fine with Clowe/Huskins/Mitchell/Pick. Dumps salary we don't need on players that are useless for our team right now, though I don't know if the cap space would work out in who we'd need to replace Mitchell, it'd be close.

Of course, there are those Wallin to SJ rumors that seem pretty substantial, so it'll be interesting to see what comes of that (Huskins and a pick/prospect is what I've seen or Joslin and a pick).

Considering Kovalchuk's already said he plans on going UFA, I could see Wilson throwing that out there just in case Waddell panics and sees 3 roster guys and jumps at it at the last second.

Huskins for Wallin is another one of those deck chair tradings.

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Season Thread 2: Its all going up in flames!

That's a 1.7M cap space next year trade, totally worth it even if it costs a 3rd or 4rd rounder too.

You're assuming Wilson doesn't offer him a 3 year 2.2 million per deal after he comes over.

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Season Thread 2: Its all going up in flames!

Not necessarily. Despite the Bruins being in a horrid losing streak they have played well in the last three games. Perhaps its a sign of them turning the corner....or maybe not.

Montreal is also playing without 2/3rds of their top line, including a guy who was 8th in the league in goals when he went down. When you have Ben Maxwell, Mathieu Darche, and Marc-Andre Bergeron among your forwards...well, that's not good.

Kovalchuk's going to New Jersey. No word on the return.

Just saw that on the Ranger's game in between periods, according to the announcer it is still not confirmed.

I guess he is going to become a checking forward for the rest of the season  :p :D ;)

Bergfors, Oduya, Tedenby and a 1st according to some. I don't know enough about NJ prospects to know who they are. Devils have been 7-1-0 vs. Pittsburgh and Washington before this game. Makes the East very interesting.

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Season Thread 2: Its all going up in flames!

I just heard from someone in the know (NHL) that it is Oduya, Bergfors and Palmieri and a draft pick.

Edit: Sounds like it was Cormier not Palmieri.

McKenzie reports (confirmed) Oduya, Bergfors, Patrice Cormier (yep, that one), and a 1st.

No wonder the Devils said they wouldn't bring him up, they'll just get rid of him.

I don't know much about those players which leads me to believe that many teams could have offered a lot more.

He is a rental until July 1st and then he is a UFA. No guarantee the Devils will sign him. See Ryan Smyth a few years ago when he was traded from Edmonton to the Islanders.

Yep. Oduya will slide in at the 3rd defensive pairing, Bergfors will likely be a 3rd or 4th liner at the right side, because I don't see him bumping Maxim or Little from the top 2, and Armstrong is on the 3rd line.

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Season Thread 2: Its all going up in flames!

For a three month rental for New Jersey, it's a great deal by Atlanta. No guarantees that Kovy would sign with NJ once the season's over anyway.

Cormier, I'm not liking as part of this deal, but maybe the lack of pressure will help his development. If not, well, the Chicago Wolves fans were bi***ing about wanting an enforcer on the team.

Kovy will look good in LA July 1st.

I'm not liking the Waddell bashing. They're making it sound as if Waddell traded long term signed Crosby AND Ovechkin for (modern day) Bobby Hull, a 9th round draft pick, and some (obviously not valid) Subway stamps.
