Re: 2009-2010 NHL Season Thread 2: Its all going up in flames!

So should i bench Jonas Hiller in fantasy tonight? ;)

I wouldn't bet against the Caps right now. On fire offensively, and protected by the league.

Rolling over the Ducks thanks to some seriously bad one sided officiating. Ovechkin elbows Ryan to the head no call, the next two minutes they score 2 goals.

Todd Marchant is high sticked in the face by a Washington player. He's bleeding. NO CALL.

The next illegal move is made by Anaheim. THIS ONE they call. They slashed Ovechchrist's stick. Yes, it was a legit call. However, why is it that Washington is exempt from penalty calls?

If I'm Anaheim, I'd roll the 3rd and 4th line, the 3rd pairing of D, and if the 3rd goaltender is dressed, play him.

I haven't researched this, but... can the Caps and Pens play in the Stanley Cup? If so, I think the NHL Network would stroke out due to perpetual orgasm.

It's just depressing to see that the game can be alterred by the name on the BACK of the jersey. Colin Campbell must have lost sleep earlier this year about whether or not to suspend Ovechchrist. He might go on suicide watch if there came a time that he'd have to consider suspending Jesus Crosby.

Gee, Pete, who knew trading away your most talented player would mean your team wouldn't be as good.

Way to destroy the foundation that was slowly coming into play.

Do you really think Phil Kessel was the answer to this season? How about the fact that nearly every player on the current roster is having one of their worst seasons.

Great job by Osbad and the Wings D tonight.
I just looked up the score from last night.

The Olympic break can't come soon enough. It will be nice to put together a little run to the playoffs ala the Penguins last season.

I think Phil Kessel symbolizes a larger problem, which is bad management. Think about the issues that saga reinforced:

1) Impact players from B's drafts come along once every 10 years.

2) When a talented player starts asking for money, the team ditches him.

3) Then, once in panic mode, the team makes several bad signings to compensate.

So, I don't think Kessel was the answer to this season. He was a piece of the puzzle for long term success and Cup contention however. This all reminded of how the B's wouldn't sign Bill Guerin ahead of time, then watched him have a career year in his contact year. Then, to compensate for losing him they're giving 25M to Martin Lapointe. The names have changed, but it seems the story is the same.

Little Philly has what 31 pts in 42 games so far this season. He became a prima dona and the Bruin's got rid or his arse. We are not talking about one of the elite players in the league, talented yes, but one of the best, not even close.

No, because we'll end up having more of our top players get injured in Vancouver, knowing how this season is going.

Tonight! An all important meaningless matchup between the Hawks and Sharks for the top spot in the Western Conference. Can the Sharks win a game vs. Chicago that isn't 99.8% Nabokov's doing? Will the Hawks re-expose the Sharks weaknesses, in one-line scoring and mediocre defense? Will I be the only person in the state of Michigan watching?

Oh, and I'm not having any schadenfreude over Detroit's suffering and injury issues. No. Not at all.

Oh, please. A completely clean hit (actually more of a collision since Ovechkin was the one with the puck) that made Ryan drop like he was shot in the face.

Guess where those 31 points would put him on the Bruins.

No, really, go ahead and guess.

I know where it puts him, but that does not put him at the elite player level though. The Bruins are horrible this year, I am not afraid to say that.

I dunno, but when I was at the store last night I saw a picture of the Red Wings' defensive unit on the side of a milk carton.

He's an elite goalscorer, and there are only so many of those to go around, and the Bruins currently have zero of them.

Hell, they gave David Krejci $3.75mil and he's not an elite anything. They gave Milan Lucic even more than that and he's only elite at pumping up the crowd.

He's also elite at getting a crowd to all yell "LOOOOOOOOOOOOCH!"

He's also elite at getting dopey fans to make very bad comparisons to legendary Bruins players.
