118th Congress - Neutered Dog Attempts to Legislate

Senator Tim Scott is running for President. A man who was tasked with working with Democrats to get Police Reform passed at the national level and failed.

Not sure why he's running. He has no track record of success to run on.

Also, a black man. Not a chance in hell he'll win a primary in today's GQP. Probably hard for him to even win a single state.

This is a VP run. He'll play nice for a while before dropping out. Trump is likely to pick a Token Minority as VP candidate because he truly thinks that will help, so you'll see Haley and Scott linger longer than their 2% peak suggest they should.

Yeah, McCarthy is in for a rough ride. From what I can tell, Biden gave up a little something in each of the categories under discussion, but a very little. So McCarthy can generate some sound bites about how he got concessions in SNAP, the IRS, capping spending, etc, but in relative terms, the deal is a whole lot closer (like 90%) to a clean bill then it is to what the GOP hardliners wanted. The question is whether enough Dems hold their noses and vote for a “dirty” bill to make up for the GOP protest votes. I think yes, so Kevin will be able to claim bipartisanship, but that’s probably not an asset for him with his ideological constituents.

There are ads running in the DC area this morning that "McCarthy got Biden to cave and protected your children's future," so obviously they are trying to back their car out of the wreck they caused. It's a question of whether the adults can rein in the children.

The Dems will vote for it, they just want this over with.

Yeah, they will whine about (some already were last night) but if they don't and catastrophe hits they kill a ton of momentum and risk major backlash. Hold the line and watch as the Fredumbers go for McCarthy's throat.

Lindsey Graham lost his mind this morning over the deal. Apparently defense spending is not growing at the rate he needs it to for him to feel good.

I can't believe the number of people who are frothing at the mouth at how bad this deal is and how Biden gave up too much. Like, if the volcano demands a sacrifice you aren't going to put the entire village at risk by telling the volcano to pound sand unless you're really sure it won't erupt.

I liked the coin, I wanted the coin, but the coin was never going to happen. There were far too many what ifs and the possibility of it failing with six extremists on the court were extremely high. Which would have put the admin in the double plus ungood situation of having the world's economy already starting to collapse and McCarthy would have been able to ask for anything.

That Biden was able to get these absolutely modest cuts to the IRS, and unfortunately SNAP programs, is quite an accomplishment. I had assumed near 100% of the IRS expansion would have been clawed back. And the SNAP benefit cuts can be figured out another way. I strongly suspect the Biden admin has a nice back door around the cuts because republicans are just too stupid and don't have good lawyers to understand the CFR in its entirety.

When choosing between apocalypse and a bit of hard work, I think the choice is easy.
