118th Congress - Neutered Dog Attempts to Legislate

Can't remember the last time I saw such an egregious case of elder abuse so publicly.
I’m curious as to how much power her aides, the party or Congress have in removing her for medical cause. She’s in a bad place and her role as a senator expands the scope of her issues immensely.

There are multiple reports of people calling her office to suggest retirement and the aides openly laughing at this point

I think only the Senate itself can vote to remove her, and that's by a two thirds vote. If she (or her family or staff) don't want her to go, she isn't going anywhere.

I would be quite uncomfortable with the senate forcing her out, even if she absolutely needs to go. That's a pandora's box that should stay closed but for truly outrageous behavior... like sedition...

I agree with this.

Her decision to step down needs to come from her staff/family.

I disagree. There should be a medical option, as long as it is completely insulated from the political process.

And there should be an age cap, even though that will make people scream. It is bullsh-t that our political class came of age when Harry Truman was president.

80 is enough. That washes out 4 Senators and 12 Representatives.

100%. Pilots have to get a medical clearance, separate from their FAA tickets, and their health only impacts a few hundred people at a time. The Senate can kill millions with the stroke of a pen (or a brain).

This isn't a case of abusing someone because they are elderly. This is a case of someone whose infirmities cannot allow them to do their job, but they stubbornly refuse to do the right thing and step down.

Would you let her continue to drive a school bus?

I'm for age limits, absolutely (I'd be more in favor of straight up term limits, but I'll take what I can get).

We've done this before, but term limits are a Very Bad Idea. I get the sentiment, but that is just handing the entire game to lobbyists, even worse than now.

I think he believes the abuse is her family and staff not getting her to resign. They don't have her best interests at heart they are keeping her in office for the power.

I've read the same argument you're likely to make, and while it's a reasonable concern and certainly valid, I just... don't agree. And if you set said term limits sufficiently long enough to let seniority and experience actually mean something, you're reducing some of that "permanent unelected decision-maker class", while still stopping these 40+ year stints. I don't know what the limits should be, but something like "15-20 years is plenty" seems like an decent starting point?

Ok, I can buy that. Lot of here staffers bringing down a sweet paycheck for not really doing anything. Would suck if they lost that gig.

Our resident deficit hawk idiot still hasn't weighed in on his party wanting to extend the Trump tax cuts for the rich and big corporations?

Funny he's got no problem jumping in to condemn handouts to the poor.
