If McCarthy's only interest were to maintain his captaincy, even if he had to scuttle the boat, well, it's only Republicans that he would have to fear. Democrats can't do a darn thing to him, so if remaining speaker was his only goal, he should have stayed full hardline to the right and not negotiated at all.

If he allows a default to happen, one of the remaining non-insanoids will put forward a motion to vacate as well. McCarthy has backed himself into this totally-foreseeable future and he isn't anywhere near smart enough to navigate it, but still, I think Obama's theory on Boehner holds true here.

Also, unless something has changed, it sounds like the HFC won't whip against the deal (though many will bleat about it and vote no), and they likely won't attempt to vacate the chair. It's beyond pathetic that cretins like Matt Gaetz have so much say in the House majority party, but ... here we are.
 
The Freedumberz held a PC basically saying they are out. The political ads will write themselves.

Meanwhile Chick Fil-A is nowc"woke" and Fox is a sponsor of LA Pride...

The GOP has learned nothing and I am here for it!
 
Gaetz says that if McCarthy faces resistance and pushes through the deal with the help of Dems he violates yhe deal they struck and they will call the question...

The optics would be half the screen showing the economy imploding and the other half showing the GOP having their 23rd vote on selecting a new Speaker of the House. Even Fox would struggle with that one. There's logic, and then there's stepping on your own dick.

Any man who votes Republican is rich and/or Christofascist and/or willfully stupid.

Any woman who votes Republican is Christofascist and/or sheltered (uneducated) and/or just insane.

The only conclusion is that the Christofascists and the uneducated both want to be lied to, and want to live in an alternate reality. Since Reagan, they've had fewer and fewer opportunities to get ahead of folks who choose urban life. They want to feel special too, but can't or don't want to put in the effort to better themselves. So Republicans purr to them about how they are the salt of the earth, the downtrodden blue collars, long forgotten by the evil Democrats and their far-left social agendas. The DC Swamp that is the federal gubmint and the urban elites who fund it are giving you and other mediocre whites a raw deal. And what's with all these migrant caravans they're letting pour in!? Maybe they're even trying to wipe us off the map?

I'm beginning to wonder if the people who vote "No" are gonna be able to survive their next election if the US defaults. Sure the DERPs eat this up now, but what happens in the future when they struggle with the bills or have to cut back on their spending to get by...

Yes, they will elect someone who has lost touch with reality, but it will be a NEW DERP.
 
The Progressives just can't get out of their own way...take the win and fight again after. Voting No makes you look weak, out of touch and incompetent.

In this case it will pass without them so no harm no foul. If they were needed for passage I guarantee they would be on board.

There are Dems who need to do this for the fine folks back home. Not every rep comes from a Pleasant Valley Sunday district.

The Right, Center, and Left each have their pretense. The difference is the Center never realizes it's just as full of bullsh-t as the rest. It actually thinks it's "real." But the Center isn't real, it's just people who recognize unfairness but privilege their comfort over fixing it, and then make up rationalizations for why taking actual action would be "disruptive" or "radical." At least Cons have the excuse of being stupid and socipathic. The Center-Left is neither. They're just hypocrites.

There's a reason why MLK said the most damaging people were the "cautious allies," since they will sell you out the instant it becomes uncomfortable for them.

Now fight the Nazis and shut up. Your entitlement is tiresome.

Yeah I see both sides of the argument. I’d reckon Jayapal isn’t so much worried about losing a general election, but rather a primary against a more left-wing candidate. Re-election is paramount.
 
She is not getting primaried she is a true believer which is why I like her. I am all for her and the Progressives fighting just keep it away from cameras. The media is looking for any excuse to switch the narrative from "McCarthy is a weak cuck" to "Dems in Dissaray" and you just waved your arms in the air and said "hey guys look at me!".

Keep in mind she is right in her concerns and I don't want her to just sit down and shut up...just keep it away from the prying eyes of the Chuck Todds of the world. Let the GOP take the bad press. Her constituents know what she stands for.

The Senate has the votes so get this done and make McCarthy look the fool. If the Dems hold the Freedumberz are gonna riot! Let them fight just hold your nose and grab the popcorn!
 
The important thing is to move it forward. Nobody is going to remember the vote count. Just like with Manchin, you sometimes have to cast a vote for optics. The leadership's major task is to make sure the counts work out to max out the flexibility of Members who have needs.

If it comes down to one vote, our votes will fall in favor. We aren't going to shoot ourselves, we're competent now. It is, mind-bogglingly if you remember how incompetently the DLC ran the DNC for decades, now the GOP who is the party in disarray who can't whip a simple vote. Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine are not walking through that door.
