Utah Republican Representative Chris Stewart is resigning effective immediately citing his wife's health. McCarthy majority lead drops to four.
Interim replacement will be an R though, right, whether by appointment or special election?
The Progressives just can't get out of their own way...take the win and fight again after. Voting No makes you look weak, out of touch and incompetent.
From a FOXNews article on his resignation:
"Utah law states that the governor must call for a special election in the event of a House vacancy. Once Stewart makes his resignation official, Republican Gov. Spencer Cox will have seven days to set the time for a primary and special election. The law requires those dates to be the same as municipal primary and general elections scheduled for this year, unless the state legislature appropriates funds to hold a separate election."
So Matt Gaetz and Bernie Sanders are both against the debt ceiling deal.
So... it's good?
So essentially that seat stays vacant until November UNLESS Utah's state legislature funds a special election before then?
GOP Rep. Ken Buck after debt vote: “My constituents are furious and you know what's so interesting about the calls in the district? They are not only ‘vote against this bill,’ but they are ‘take McCarthy out.’ That's what the calls are coming in,” he said, per @morgan_rimmer
If that happened McCarthy would be primaried. His rich constituents don't want him owing the Dems.
I fail to see a problem here…..
