I think that provision only holds if he wins which he just isn't going to. Actually I am not even sure that deal is still valid anymore.

I fly home from Mexico tomorrow...I figured by the time I made it he would give up the ghost but he and the Qrazies after playing a game of chicken and both are about to drive over the cliff. Ya hate to see it ;^)

No, I know. But who else are they going to vote for that doesn't give them a shit ton of concessions? Or is one of them, for that matter.

They literally aren't gonna budge...

Beau had a really video today talking about how Dems could use this opportunity to leverage Quevin and I think it would be the time to do so. Basically use him to put pressure on the Sedition Caucus.

The only leverage the Dems will ever have is voting for Jeffries. They don't ally with Kevin. Not now, not a little, not ever.

name, rank, serial number.

You lose more leverage than you gain by having ANY sort of alliance with any Republican.

Schumer is one of the only democrats he could get away with caning if he tried. VIrtually every other Democrat would start throwing punches (or staplers).

Maxine Waters will f-ck you up.

You can't leverage him because McCarthy has no morals or standards. He denounced Trump on 1/6 then raced down there 48 hours later to suck his cock.

I watched Beau's video and I like his idea but, as with you folks here, I don't trust McCarthy to keep his word.

But.

How much more enraged would it make these lunatics if they honestly thought that McCarthy would instead ally with Democrats?

Beau's thoughts.

I think sacrificing a few votes here is worth it. Nothing will get done over the next two years. The D's need to accept this. Then bash that over the R's heads in two years.

They can also force McCarthy to pull back all of his concessions.

This will aid in splitting the DERP party even more. This will impact how people vote in '24. The D's won't pick up votes. No, that number will basically stay steady. But R's are looking at a 70/30 or 60/40 split in theirs. That's a HUGE drop in the overall score. That's the endgame here. Drive that wedge. The R's are doing the heavy lifting... We're just nudging them along and adjusting things so that the hammer driving the wedge is more efficient at it =)

Sorry for the double post, but Swan hit on the key note here...

This is no different than egging your younger sibling on because you know they will do something stupid as a result.

I'd rather they vote for speaker for two years than form committees and select committees, deceive the public, and waste my money.

No. Six Republicans can cross over and end this.

Almost thirty Democrats aren't going to vote for Qevin just to get stabbed in the back by him next week.

So when is the first mandatory vote due to take place? The omnibus bill funded the federal government for the fiscal year, so that won't be an issue until September 30. When's the debt ceiling due to reach its limit?

Somewhere between March and August

US could see a fight over debt ceiling that rocks markets, Goldman Sachs warns | CNN Business

Even though federal debt is likely to reach the statutory limit in the next few weeks, Goldman Sachs said the Treasury Department should be able to borrow as usual until late February or early March. At that point, the government could tap a stockpile of $500 billion in cash to finance the deficit until August.https://www.cnn.com/2022/12/05/economy/debt-ceiling-fight-goldman-sachs/index.html

I don't know, but I'd recommend the Republicans figure their shit out before then.

I don't know, but I'd recommend the Republicans figure their **** out before then.

Not to be too pedantic, but technically it’s up to the US House of Representatives to elect a speaker, not some subset of that group.

Right now, 212 are behind Jeffries, 200 or so behind McCarthy, and 20 or so who haven’t figured out who they are behind.

European politicians, used to multi-party politics, are used to building governing coalitions. US politicians lack that skill because we’ve been locked in a two party system for more than a century. They’ll have to figure it out.

For those of you hoping for the rise of a legitimate third party, or gleefully hoping either the Democratic or Republican Party fracture into multiple parties, this is what that looks like.
