We *think* Gaetz flipped.
Present is bad for McC right?
No. Present (in multiples of 2) reduces the number of votes needed. Presuming Gaetz also votes Present, that will mean that 216 votes (what McCarthy got last time) will be sufficient.
Ahhhh.
Present can still switch too right?

"Assuming McCarthy just flipped Gaetz by giving him chairmanship of Armed Services Committee since the current committee chairman had tried to attack Gaetz."
"Looks like Gaetz and McCarthy just reached a deal to stay and vote.
On CSPAN looked like McCarthy said â??thank youâ?? and Gaetz appeared to mouth the word â??committee.â??
(He currents sits on Armed Services. The chairman of that committee, Mike Rogers, just lunged at him.)"
Still depends on who
It is looking like it will be:
McCarthy - 216
Jeffries - 212
Present - 6
So, that would mean there are technically 428 votes; thus, 215 needed for the win. 216 does it for McCarthy. FWIW, Pelosi won her last Speakership for the 117th Congress with 216 votes (of course, in an organized fashion on the first vote).
