'09-'10 D-III Bracketology

Re: '09-'10 D-III Bracketology

BTW, something to keep a eye on. If Plattsburgh loses to Elmira and Amherst beats Trinity. That should be enough for Amherst to jump into the 1E spot. Plattsburgh would still get the first Pool C spot but any shot at a first round bye would be gone.

A little bit of seer in your blood? Elmira just needs to hang on. Does this throw a wrench in anyone's forecast?

You know more about this than I do, but I believe the NCAA website said that they have release their third and final regional rankings. You are suggesting that they will rerank after today?

Those are the final rankings that they make public. Prior to the selection process each region ranks their teams again. Then the selection process commences.

Matt - You seem fairly well grounded and unbiased, unlike some other people on this thread, so if Elmira hangs on, and with Trinity going to overtime with the now #1E seed, will the two at large teams then be Platts and Trinity?

Not really, assuming the score holds, just replace Plattsburgh as the first pool C team in place of Elmira. The last Pool C spot will come down to Trinity or Lake Forest with the current numbers tilting it to Trinity. I'll have another look after their loss today is entered in.

Re: '09-'10 D-III Bracketology

I will believe it when it happens until then it is just wishful thinking. It makes no sense to penalize a West school by the Athletic Department only having less than a week to prepare for such an event when the # 1 seed could have Two weeks to plan for the event. Not that I don't hope I am wrong.

What he meant, I think, was if the NCAA is willing to fly three teams west this year, why didn't they fly three teams west in the past, if it had been necessary, at least once? For instance, why didn't they do it when Gustavus WAS the #1 ranked team nationally? You're saying they'll send three teams west to meet this once-in-four-years advisory, but not to meet their rule that the #1 seed should host the event?

Re: '09-'10 D-III Bracketology

The NCAA is fully prepared to fly 3 teams west if the field is 5/2. I know that no one believes this, but it is true. In less than 24 hours, you will see.

Sorry, I meant to quote Matt, not 4 and 20, in my last post.

To put it as simply as I can, and based on what I understand from it. If the FF does not go west naturally once every three years, then the fourth year it goes west no matter what.

To me, this means that when GAC was #1, there was no way to naturally have it in the west as they would have had to fly three teams. Which under their policy would not be "natural".

By naturally, I conclude that the NCAA sticks to the limited number of flights possible rule. That said, if it doesn't go west for three years, they bite the bullet if needed in the fourth year.

You're good. So where will the frozen four be held? ;)

But this policy discriminates against the west. The east has 3 automatic qualifiers. Therefore, a #1 ranked east team should never have to worry that they cannot host the tourney in the normal course of events, even if the east gets no pool bids. However, by this same criteria, in the normal course of events a #1 ranked west team only gets to host if the west also gets one or two pool bids. Why should #1 ranked west teams get less favorable treatment than #1 ranked east teams?

Looks like Trinity will be flying west next weekend, the question is where will they be going?

I'll have what he is smokin/drinkin or both. And if I recall correctly the season Gustavus was the # 1 seed the NCAA flew two (2) teams out east. I guess it is "naturally" less expensive to fly two (2) teams east than two (2) teams west. Da!

Because the two east teams were ranked higher than the two west teams, so west should not get home advantage.

How does this discriminate against the West? It helps them if anything.

If the split is 4/3 and the #1 seed is in the West. They would get a bye and host.

If it is a 5/2 split and the #1 seed is in the West. They would not naturally host because that would go against the NCAA's flight policy. (Which is why this new policy was enacted because the 4/3 split with the #1 seed in the West has not occured.)

If the west ever got both Pool C bids and made it 3/4, and the #1 seed was in the west, the eastern team would get a bye and the top west team would host, assuming they won. (Ironically this same exact scenario played out a couple years ago, except in reverse. It was a 4/3 split and Plattsburgh was #1 in the country. GAC got the bye and Plattsburgh ended up hosting the FF after they beat Elmira in the NCAA Quarters.)

When did this happen. GAC may have been #1 in the western rankings, but not in the nation. What year are you referring to.

You should put up an alert before such posts!

I took a gulp out of a diet coke just before I read your post and I'm still cleaning that coke off my screen and keypad!
