Dump Term 2 Part 3: "But I Say Unto You, Hate Thy Enemies." -- Revulsions 5:44

Glad we locked in our propane contract this summer. $1.93 is the MN Market average right now, we locked in at $1.72.

Counterpoint to that is the recent rise in popularity of the tournament in Europe, Sweden and Finland especially, and the good attendance in Sweden and Czechia. People are clearly willing to travel for the tournament, Canadians included, and up until the end of October last year the idea of hosting the tournament in the Twin Cities seemed like a slam dunk. It's easy to get in and out of the Twin Cities travel wise, plenty of hotels, and centrally located arenas. I don't think it's unfair to think travel packages would've sold well if the political climate was different.
Those are excellent points, and I do know now that you remind me, that Canadian travel packages to Europe have become more popular.

But how many of those type of travelers are there to actually fill up an arena? Most Canadians who traveled to Grand Forks or Buffalo, went back and forth, and never stayed overnight. The first time it was in Buffalo, I met a retired couple who bought the whole ticket package. They went to every game every day in the main arena. But they lived close enough to the border, that they just commuted back and forth. They had enough money for the tickets, but not to add on hotel fares for the whole two weeks.

More than you think. I had a colleague who traveled from Yellowknife to Halifax. Never underestimate Canadians desire to travel for the WJC.

I guarantee if Trump had lost last year attendance from Canadians would be way up as would hotels. There is enough evidence to show Canadians have cut us off from their travel and the WJC will definitely suffer for it.
No doubt they have cut us from travel destinations. Just look at Las Vegas, whose decline is partially due to Canadians staying away.

I just don't think it's the difference maker for the WJC.

It's not necessarily a cheap ticket, though.

I love the world juniors, and I still may find my way to a game or two. But for my wife and I to go to say the Sweden game and sit in the lower bowl, it would be close to $400 for two tickets, after taxes, and that's without parking, etc...

Medal round tickets were $660 for a single seat for four games, so again, we'd spend close to $1400.
yeah, we've been harping on this for ages. Now some games are only $40, but it's absolutely asinine that it remained so expensive for so long. That's not something the local peeps have control over, of course, but its not like a lot of people have piles of disposable income around. And just a tragedy for these kids to not play in front of a packed house.

I do hope you and your wife get to a game. they will end up discounting to get those medal round games full, I'm betting.

Not that I know the actual numbers, but I still think MN will get the second highest overall attendance for an American host. It's Minnesota after all. I'm figuring Buffalo the first time was the highest. And I'm guessing the Grand Forks host didn't have NHL capacity arenas. And Boston bombed, but that was a long time ago, when the WJC wasn't a big deal in the U.S.

And I'm still expecting key medal round games to be sold out, depending of course on who's in them. It's the "other" games that might drag the overall attendance down.

I support the canadian boycott, I'm just sad.

some people are just butthurt about Buffalo
I'm not butthurt about anything. Heck, I don't even live in Buffalo. I knew Buffalo was not going to get it again after the second time was disappointing. Minnesota was the obvious pick this time around.

Heck, Buffalo wasn't even supposed to get it that second time. Pittsburgh was going to beat them out, but at the last minute, Pegula offered the Bills stadium for an outdoor USA-Canada game, and that tipped the scales back to Buffalo.

For those of you wondering why some of us will choose not to vote instead of voting for Gavin...

The responses are great by the best was:

Ya know that mexiocre "Day After Tomorrow" film about climate change? Remember how stupid the Republicans are in it? (I dont think they are identified but its obviously Cheney and Dubya) Welcome to life imitating art.

gee, I wonder why people like me are worried they won't work again.

This is prime example of something that can't be rebuilt in even 4 years

Reagan said that was the Presidency's purpose, he didn't say he lived up to the purpose. Checkmate libulardos!

St. Ronnie was just a few more dead brain cells away from drooling on himself in 1984, after fucking around with supply side economics for most of his first term while unemployment rose, and America bought it anyway.
