Gear Grinding 10: F-You! F-You! F-You! You're cool! F-You! I'm Out!

That is not something that I have experienced at all. Never had a legit number blocked and the only spam calls I get are fundraising bs.
The thing is, how would you know if a legit call was blocked or not? They don't get through. We knew because we got an email saying we are trying to call you.

Because anyone that is calling my number would know a secondary way to contact me to tell me.

Ok, lucky you that you apparently have not missed important calls because they were blocked for reasons. I'm just saying that the system is far from perfect that it continues to let spam calls through and blocks legit calls from large companies.

But in doing this, am I at risk somehow?
Only to the extent that you've notified them your number is real and attached to a person, which is partly why you get so many spam calls a day. Even if most scammers can't do much else other than that, there's a chance your number falls into the hands of someone who links it to other info that may have been stolen/gathered through the years and allows them to get through security on something that does matter.

It's not anywhere close to a high probability (especially since there are hundreds of millions of other Americans to potentially scam in easier ways), but it's still a non-zero chance.

If it rings it means your number is real. You would need to block at the source.

Picking up probably doesn’t confirm your number is real so much as it means there is someone who is willing to pick up to unknown numbers. Which in turn means you’re probably like 100x more likely to get scammed than the average phone number.
The day of the week and time is also logged. They know when to reach you. Unsolicited calls at those times will increase shortly.

This is a weird one but…

There’s a guy at my work that wears a Brewers hat and a Gophers sweatshirt.

It drives me bananas.

Got a new car that comes with steering assistance when you're in cruise control. I end up turning it off most of the time because it will yell alerts at me to keep my hands on the steering wheel unless I have an absolute death grip on the two sensor points.

My CRV has that, too, but it doesn’t have sensors the way you’re describing. In short, Honda, at least in the prior run of CRVs, it feels when you’re slightly correcting the direction of the car, even the act of resting your hands/arms on the wheel will be noticed as slight movements on the steering wheel.

Same with my Kia Optima/K5.

It's an Outback. After some trial and error it seemed there are only detection points at the 10 and 2 points on the wheel.

But now I'm reading a Reddit thread that says there aren't sensors and that it relies on a slight wheel movement. So it must be giving it the extra grip is moving the wheel slightly. Ironic that to keep steering assistance engaged you have to override it periodically. But I guess it is called steering assistance and not automatic steering.

The woman that spazzed out on the baseball screwed up, but can we please as a society get over the need to try an destroy people for having a bad human moment that in the end didn't cause any harm? A rapist, a molester, a complete racist POS, whatever, whatever. She fucked up but wtf people calm down.

A couple of years ago, I went to a Rangers at Sabres game. There was a kid (okay, he was a kid, so he's allowed to be confused) who had a Rangers jersey on and a Bruins cap. WTF?!

My kid would wear a Brewers hat and a Maine Sweater. We went to Brewers game during Milwaukee Frozen Four and he has been a fan since

That is different sports. If he wore a Maine Jersey and a UNH hat then it would be a better analogy.

When you see this in society, especially fueled by social media's "seek and destroy" mentality, it is not hard to see how puritanical cultures develop. Perfection is now demanded by everyone, of everyone, at all moments.

Or maybe, and hear me out on this, don’t be an asshole.

No. If you are adult and you are a prick you will get called out for it. I remember half of Mariucci swearing at a fan all game who stole a puck from a kid. That guy goes to every game so he can buy a friggin puck. he deserved to be called out for it for 3 periods and I still cant not see him that way.
