Something was eating at me about the whole Yoda jumping around/not doing anything discussion...

So, 20~ years have passed between Chapter I and Chapter IV, right? Maybe his species ages faster than a human. So when he's doing all the fighting, he's obviously more spry than when Luke meets him in Dagobah. Added to that, maybe he pretty much retired as a warrior and is simply a teacher/sage now. Kind of like how Luke is heading in VII (so far, anyway).

It's plausible, IMO.

I wouldn't worry too much about plot holes with something that was written out of order and many years after IV came out.

The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings - the books - have many inconsistencies between them as Tolkien wrote the Hobbit before he conceived of the LOTR and parts of the story change that didn't fit.

Things often get a bit messy when there is a document (book or movie) of a story that the author later wants to adjust or change.

I gloss those over in my mind so as not to get hung up on minutia that could otherwise ruin my enjoyment.


Yoda was a warrior at one point and after the fall of the Jedi, it's plausible that his aging sped up to where he became feeble at a rapid (for him who has a long life span) rate. It's not unheard of for a spouse who becomes widowed to fade away after the focus of their life is gone.

Happens to some people after they retire too.

Whew! Star Wars overload rapidly approaching.

It's almost at the level of when the prequels were first out and my boy was into all things SW and had all of the figures and Legos and video games etc, etc, etc...

Watched VI tonight and it's better than my impression of it in my head was. There still are a bunch of cringe worthy moments, but overall it's a good ending to that part of the saga.


Will take the boy to VII and then will need to decompress until Rogue Squadron next year.

I hear ya, but for someone (Handy) who is admittedly a borderline fanboy, if not full-blown, I was surprised he had as big of an issue with the Yoda thing, considering a variable like I mentioned. That's all. :)

As I said, something was just eating at me about the discussion, and I finally thought of it.

Edit: as for the widow/widower thing....see: Johnny Cash.

A big problem with Yoda is that he's walking around with a cane or using his hover-around scooter through most of those PT movies, but then he all of a sudden starts flipping around and doing these immensely acrobatic moves that defy what his normal condition is.

Also, you're comparing CGI Yoda to puppet Yoda, so of course he's not going to move around as much Empire or Jedi, those are simple technical limitations. Lucas could've used more technical limitations when making Episodes I-III.

I could also understand Unkar being the holder, and Kylo being behind the abduction of Rey's mother (and not necessarily being there). Maybe Luke was already "retired" and Kylo was on his way to being the big bad guy.

The "visions" swayed me a bit more towards this theory after seeing it a second time, but what REALLY got me was when Kylo flipped his sh* when a girl was mentioned. He kind of shrugged it off when FN was mentioned as a helper, you know?

Rey could've simply been a padawan learner at the new Jedi temple Luke had established after RotJ. When Ren turned to the Dark side, following in his grandfather's footsteps, he killed his fellow padawans, but Rey might simply have been the only one that was successfully hidden away from Ren and Snoke. There's a line that was cut from the movie, according to Abrams, but it appears in the novelization of the movie because it was based upon an earlier version of the script, when Ren and Rey are vying for the lightsaber stuck in the snow by using the Force, and Rey wins that battle, Ren was originally supposed to utter, "It's you!" Ren may have recognized her as a powerful youngling that scared or impressed him because of her raw abilities. Abrams cut the line because he thought it interrupted the flow or feel of the scene.

Not for the story but because listening to Hamill trying to deliver a line is painful. :)

Yeah, Hamill was a very one-dimensional actor back then. I remember I watched a TV movie with him, Linda Blair, William Daniels, and Larry Hagman from '75, Sarah T. - Portrait of a Teenage Alcoholic. It was a standard Shapiro production, and his realm at the time was basically playing the hunky high school jock; didn't require a lot of effort on his part.

IMO, he got somewhat better as the series progressed. By RotJ he wasn't too shabby, which is too bad because that's the movie in which the cracks in Lucas' facade started to appear in earnest.

Look, I may have a penchant for the old and the obscure, but even I've never heard of that. And looking at the IMDB page for it, I think that's a good thing.

So I finally saw it. I definitely enjoyed it more than the prequels even though the plot obviously mirrors A New Hope in many ways.

I would have liked to have known more about the Republic/Resistance/First Order going in. From what I figured out after the death of the Emperor some portion of the Empire's military continued to fight the Rebels/Republic and after some major military loss near Jakku they signed some kind of treaty with the Republic and officially established the First Order in some corner of the Galaxy somewhere. They are in major militarization mode, training tons of storm troopers and building new weapons. This makes many in the Republic weary but there is no political will to go to war and put and end to it so the Resistance operates out of First Order territory to fight their resurgence and gets some kind of unofficial support from the Republic. okay. But what I can't figure out is where this supreme leader guy came from.

Also I did pretty well to go in mostly blind, avoiding spoilers and any information about the plot. Except I heard Han died. Not that surprising, but obviously the Kylo Ren bridge scene's ending was obvious from the second Han walked into the bridge.

They are kind of Bond movies; an evil genius with a secret lair and some sort of doomsday machine plus there are hundreds or thousands of bad guys who are all dressed alike.
