Your program's Mount Rushmore

Re: Your program's Mount Rushmore

Depends on the criteria. My top four Husky players of all time might include him, but I was thinking more in terms of significance to the program. No doubt that if we put this to a vote it'll end up being all players.

Just think if the real Mount Rushmore was put to a popular vote... Washington and Lincoln would make the cut, but Jefferson and Roosevelt would probably be replaced with Reagan and Clinton!

I seriously doubt that everyone will vote for just players. I'm pretty sure Gino Gasparini and/or Dean Blais will make the cut for North Dakota. Murray Armstrong will almost certainly be one of the 4 for DU, and Jerry York could very well find himself on 2 different program's Mount Rushmore.

Re: Your program's Mount Rushmore

Anyone other Gopher fans worried that JDUBBS might graffiti our monument if we put someone who isn't a native Minnesotan on it? :p

I'd vote for Brooks, but I'm not sure I'd vote for a couple of your others.
Andolsek from what I remember isn't acknowledged on campus anywhere so even though he was our first successful coach I doubt there are very many who remember him or his accomplishments to the program.
Brimsek is known and yeah we can claim him as ours, but how much does him being ours really matter in terms of importance for the program?
Unless you are a St. Cloud fan, does anyone even think of SCSU if Brimsek is brought up?
He isn't known for being a Husky like some other legends (Hobey Baker, Mayasich, Magnuson, etc) are known for being a part of their college programs and without that impact to the program itself, I don't know that he rates a place on our Mount Rushmore.

Re: Your program's Mount Rushmore

I seriously doubt that everyone will vote for just players. I'm pretty sure Gino Gasparini and/or Dean Blais will make the cut for North Dakota. Murray Armstrong will almost certainly be one of the 4 for DU, and Jerry York could very well find himself on 2 different program's Mount Rushmore.

With that in mind, I'll make a nomination for Lucia on CC's Mount Rushmore. He wasn't here long but represents a major change IMHO.

I guess I'll nominate a few more because it doesn't seem like any of the 3 other CC fans are interested. I am by no means an expert and I'm not going to spend a lot of time thinking about it or doing research. I'll go with Peter Senja and Marty Sertich (only two Hobey Baker winners) followed by Julie Penrose (because I can).

Same can probably be said for Herb Brooks. Minnesota is a no brainer, but he was instrumental in helping bring St Cloud to D1.

I'll throw in Cheddy Thompson as well, as he led the Tigers following WWII, and coached CC in the first 5 Final Fours, winning the 1950 title.

Re: Your program's Mount Rushmore

I'm sure Mankato would love to wait to decide who ends up on this thing.

I think Don Brose and David Backes are no brainers, and would end up there anyway. Other than that I guess you have guys like Shane Joseph, Grant Stevenson, Tim Jackman, Ryan Carter, etc. Others more in tune with the program would have better nominations, I am sure.

I guess I equate Andolsek to Washington as the founder of the program, but I can understand that he isn't as well known. I wouldn't be crushed if he didn't make it, but I think there's a strong case to be made for him.

Brimsek, on the other hand, is the namesake of the team's MVP award. I think the case for him is extremely strong.

Re: Your program's Mount Rushmore

Ferris:

Taylor Nelson
Chris Kunitz
John Gruden
John DePourcq

I did players only. If I didn't stick to that, I'd put Bob Daniels and Dr. Ewigleben in over Gruden and DePourcq. I also considered Andy Roach over Gruden, but Gruden was our first All American. I also looked at Paul and Peter Lowden (#1 and #3 on our scoring lists), but I can't put them in when neither of them got this team to the conference semis, while DePourcq was the captain on the first team to do that.

Ned Harkness could be on three (RPI, Cornell, and Union), certainly the first two.
