Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

For the Person that gave me a neutral rep and called me a troll put your money where your mouth is, I bet you 25.00 say to our favorite charity that Yale doesn't make it to the Frozen Four and could very well be bounced in the first round, your team isn't going to surprise anyone this season... I am game... If UND faces Yale again last years result won't happen and I doubt your team wants to go there again because UND is battle tested and our team isn't beating up on the weak sisters of the poor...

high roller...

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

Been looking to get a couple of tix for Wednesdays Russian game. The Yale ticket office is closed for vacation and the online ticketing does not seem to be working. Anyone know if there are seats left, or possibly someone to contact about the system being down, I e-mailed the box office with no reply.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

Final score from last night: Russian Red Stars 11, Army 4. Russians scored 2 goals in 1st period, 4 in 2nd, 5 in 3rd. So much for jet lag.

Looks like we might have a high scoring, up and down shootout tonight at the Whale.

I can't imagine this game will sell out.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

Not a sellout, but a fun game to watch. 5-3 final, Yale the winner. Should be more sellouts once the second half starts, especially if the team keeps playing well.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

It was interesting watching the game, with Kearney, Little and O'Neil sitting in the stands a few feet away. Yale played all three goalies who all played well. It was interesting to see Peltz for the first time, he had alot of energy on the ice, and although small in stature was a factor during the game and scored the game winner on a goal that may have glanced off of a Russian defender. Otto also played well. The Russians were a skilled team that seemed to show a lack of cohesiveness due to a short learning curve as teammates together. They were very physical and the game became quite chippy at times with numerous scrums after the whistle. Much like the Slovaks against USA last night they tend to check leading their elbows and were also called for a couple of checks from behind/boarding infractions as well. Langanierre looked healthy and made some nifty stick handling moves during the game and seemed to enjoy leading the team. Higgins seemed to be out of sync and ended up taking some tough hits, I thought he might be a factor in the game but he seemed to miss his regular line mates. The defense was very good most of the game and did a good job keeping the Russians wide. A very good competitive scrimmage.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

I gave my report in the thread I started. Here odds and ends specific to Yale game.

the game winner on a goal that may have glanced off of a Russian defender.

The GWG glanced off the Russian captain's skate and in. There was nothing that the goaltender could have done. I was standing next to the railing (with the Russian flag) directly to the left of the Russian goaltender and saw they play clearly. Just a very unfortunate bounce for the Russians (and very fortunate for Yale.)

The Russians were a skilled team that seemed to show a lack of cohesiveness due to a short learning curve as teammates together.

Yeah, I think they only practiced for a week or so.

Much like the Slovaks against USA last night they tend to check leading their elbows and were also called for a couple of checks from behind/boarding infractions as well.

I thought that in the beginning of the game the refs called a couple of phanthom penalties on the Russians, one leading to a Yale goal. Then again, the refs might not have been used to moves like that (which are legal in the MHL, which, as I understand, plays under IIHF rules) and thus were more liberal with the whistle than necessary. As the game went on, I though that refs stopped calling the ticky-tack stuff and let them play.

More thoughts:

-The icing on PK rule is idiotic. Hopefully it stays out of hockey (college and otherwise).

-Impressed with the (near?) sell-out at Yale. I've never seen that building that full. Army marketed their game as being "vs. Red Army" and thus had a near-sellout as well.

-As I said in my post on the other thread, Yale is a great team. Whoever meets them in conference or postseason play should legitimately fear losing (unless they are Brown in play-offs). Anything less than the Frozen Four for you would be a dissappointment (at least at this point in the season). Good luck (unless you are playing Dartmouth)!

Higgins?
Thanks for the update - much appreciated as I have been suffering from Yale hockey deprivation. Looking forward to the Holy Cross game Sunday.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

free admission to sunday's holy cross game
bring a new toy to ingalls rink on jan. 2 and get a free ticket for the 4 p.m. Holy cross-yale game. This is a yale new haven hospital toy closet program benefit. Each toy (not stuffed animals, war or violent items), preferably for ages 3-4, gets you one general admission ticket.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

Great article in todays NY Daily News about Yale and also a sidebar about the mutual respect between Tim Taylor and Keith Allain. They even get props from Jerry York in the article. The best part about the article is that the team is focused on working harder, not on the ranking.

I would work harder too if I were them as someday they will have to play a team worth a d a m n...

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

Nice win for Yale today, but the news that Steve Conn gave (on the execrable internet feed) was that Jeff Anderson is rehabbing and will be back this season.

Why were they sitting and not playing?
