Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

Thanks to FS23, SJHovey and Ralph Baer (and a bunch of tedious data manipulation) I now have the data I need to begin a study on the predictive power of midseason and final rankings on NCAA Tournament results. It will be done once my darn employers let up on their absurd demand that I do the work they're paying me for rather than thinking about college hockey. When I get results, I'll post them in a new thread. In the meantime, I wanted to second Fighting Sioux 23's comments. In reading posts on this forum, it is quite difficult to separate the reasonable doubters from the idiots on many points. Fighting Sioux 23 is exactly right: (almost) anyone who gets into the tournament is a legitimate Frozen Four threat. The extra degree of probability from being Krach-better, RPI-better, Ranking-better, Cupcakefree-better, or any other kind of better is small. An ocular analysis of FS23's results above makes that clear. Do I love that Yale is ranked number one? Of course. Does it blind me to the uphill nature of the struggle? It does not. But everyone has an uphill struggle -- that's what makes it fun to watch.

Thanks for the extra work. But please just post it in this thread. We don't need to throw fuel on the fire with another rogue Yale thread.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

I'm sure there are numerous other examples, but North Dakota lost 2 forwards who played regularily, including their leading goal scorer. They also lost a forward who played maybe 3/4 the games and their 6th defensemen who was in the lineup only due to the injury to Genoway. They lost a total of 28 of the 140 goals scored last year.

Yale lost two of their top four leading goal scorers, their top scorer on the blueline, and 44 of the 141 goals they scored last year.

Yale has a nice team, and returned a good portion of the lineup that lead them last year. However, I wouldn't assume that everyone else suffered worse losses.

A closer read of my statement above, and you might realized that in the NCAAs last year we were without Backman- he was lost for the season prior to ECAC playoffs. Despite not having Backman we had no problems scoring enough goals to handily bead UND. Then against BC we had no problem scoring goals, but might as well have placed with 6 skaters and no goalie, as we couldn't even stop shots from BCs own blue line.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

Really enjoying the obsession with "proving" Yale wrong.

And I enjoy that I can now rip on Yale without you butting in with your silly little "facts" and "ideas". Maybe you should learn to behave on this board, mister!

Handily beating UND? :D
The time since that game must have messed with your memory of the actual game itself. ;)
A 3-2 score, Yale being outshot 36-23 for the game, including 18-5 in the 3rd period when the last 10min appeared that UND was on a continuous PP with all the pressure...I wouldn't exactly say that was "handily" beating them.
But, they won regardless, so props to them. :)

Why are we talking about last year? Am I in the Yale Hockey 2009-2010 thread? Can we get back to talking about this year? Or don't they do that at Yale?

That's a first...
The first person who thinks that us Yale fans haven't been taking enough about this year's Yale team.....we will have to change that.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

This break has got me seriously off kilter concerning Yale, between the non communication from the Coach/AD and the lack of action. I hope the team takes the chance to get well and come back stronger for the ECAC schedule. Just read the full updated press notes and was not happy to hear that Langaniere has also missed two games due to injury. He is not the most flashy player , but his forechecking and size are a positive presence for Yale and I hope he will return after the break, funny thing is I do not recall how he was injured. Alittle info about the russian team.
RED STARS
The Russian Junior United “Red Stars,” a team of elite players from Russia, Latvia
and Belarus, play the last of three exhibition games in the Northeast against Yale. The
Red Stars play Holy Cross and Army before coming to New Haven. The touring team
consists of players from the Russian Junior Hockey League (RJHL). The RJHL is the
29-team developmental junior league organized in 2009 by Russian professional hockey
clubs playing in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). Players in this junior league are
between the ages of 16 and 21. The majority of the players on the Red Stars roster are
ages 19-21. Alexander Semak, current head coach of Tolpar Ufa and a former star player
from Dynamo Moscow and several NHL teams (289 games), is the head coach.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

Speaking of Yale's roster, I've been curious as to the status of freshman Brad Peltz. He's an Ottawa Senators draft pick ('10, seventh round), and in speaking with Allain a couple weeks back, I didn't catch any whiff of an injury. Is the current lineup too good for an NHL prospect, is he hurt, or perhaps the Sens have him vastly overrated? Yeah, I know, these are things that it's my job to figure out... but you know how Coach is about, well, talking. ;)

I think Peltz may have been drafted for his hair alone--kid has the mane of a Roman god.

For an Ivy Leaguer your not doing to well with math... 3-2 isn't a very big lead or impressive win, based on my math it’s a one goal game... Your team hung on by the skin of their teeth...

I thought the Sioux did pretty well for only playing one period...

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

That's patently false at the collegiate level. St. Lawrence had 35 last year, UND has 26 this year, and - if I may add - anyone who is trying to pretend that Yale isn't a Frozen Four-caliber team this year is severely ignorant, deluded, or both.

They aren't going to be when they get bounced in the first round... I see Clarkson all over again...

You lose in the first round when you overlook the underdog, while preparing for the regional final instead. Sound familiar.

You are going by an old list. Newell and Kubiak are no longer committed. There are about 5 new commits for the coming years.

--------------
Most of these players are 20-21 stars in the MHL who are trying to get into their KHL line-ups and for the majority of these players, will stay in KHL. However, some of them could turn into NHL players. Some players to look out for though...

-Alshevsky had a very impressive season last year recording 74pts (29+45) in 45 matches at just 19.

-Toluzakov at 21 put up 71pts (39+32) in 57 matches

-Tochitsky had 51 (12+39) in 58 matches last year and this year has 42pts (7+35) in only 26 matches.

-Konozov has 32pts (19+13) in 28 matches

-Vilkoits has 28pts (16+12) in 29 matches. He will never probably make the NHL but standing 192cm and 102kg, he can be extremely fun to watch when he throws his body around.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

For the Person that gave me a neutral rep and called me a troll put your money where your mouth is, I bet you 25.00 say to our favorite charity that Yale doesn't make it to the Frozen Four and could very well be bounced in the first round, your team isn't going to surprise anyone this season... I am game... If UND faces Yale again last years result won't happen and I doubt your team wants to go there again because UND is battle tested and our team isn't beating up on the weak sisters of the poor...
