Yale Bulldogs Hockey 2011 -2012

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey 2011 -2012

I couldn't make it to the game tonight, but whomever had the idea to combine Lags, Agostino, and Miller is a genius. I wish we could've discovered this magic line combination earlier in the season!
I couldn't agree more. That line was really humming tonight. Yale is going to be very dangerous in the playoffs.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey 2011 -2012

I was at the game tonight and it was as impressive as a domination by a Yale team that I have seen this season. The defensive and mental letdowns by Harvard left them in a big hole which they tried to crawl out of by hitting Yale, which only made things worse for them penalty wise. Yales PK and forecheck tonight were outstanding and just the way Alain trains these teams to play. Limbert and Balch were just pests and Day also had a great game. The only downside was the misconduct to Ziegler which will leave us short for the Princeton game. O'Neil was a wonder tonight, Miller even forechecked some. I think having miller on the point during the powerplay is a catch 22, I would rather see him on the wing or at center with Peel on the point. Miller kept looking for the perfect pass instead of shooting. The breakaway and rush goals were absolutely things of beauty, and what we have been expecting to see more of this season. If Yale keeps clicking they are going to be a dangerous team in the post season.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey 2011 -2012

Is anyone planning to go to either game this weekend?

I'll be at the Q'piac game. Great great performance by the Elis Saturday (and good job Friday as well). May they carry this hard-earned momentum to Princeton and Hamden this weekend, and on to the post season!

Great to see Peel back - even on a very limited basis Friday he had an immediate positive impact.

I am thinking about heading down to Princeton, there are only single tix left on the PU website. I would hope theYale box office would still have a few. I am going toQPac as well. To bad that we will be without Ziegler for thePU game, his physical presence is needed even if he does not score much. Hopefully Peel will be100 percent and get more minutes, he played really well both nights.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey 2011 -2012

Called the Yale ticket office. They have Princeton tickets for another day or so. After that, they send them back so get em while they're hot. They have no QPac tickets. Might have to look on Craigs List for those

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey 2011 -2012

Guess I got misconduct and DQ mixed up, i thought there was an automatic for hitting the head? I just reserved two seats and my wife and I are heading down and should be in town by three. I talked to my buddy who has been there a few times and he recommended the Dolly Madison Pub in the Hotel Nassau. I see there is a Triumph Brewing Company there as well and may like to try that instead. Tripadvisor reviews of The Dolly are so-so, but I guess the historical atmosphere is the draw. Anyone has any suggestions for food and lodging let me know, the Hyatt Regency up the road has rooms for around $100, head back towards 287 0r I-95 and they can be had for 60-70. Lets all meet for a drink if possible.

I'm not sure when I'll get to Princeton, but let me know where you're going before the game.

Also, congrats to Agostino for ECAC POTW--he certainly earned it.

In alumni news, Cahill quit the Milwaukee Admiral organization last week. I've never heard of a player quitting in the middle of a season. The only rumor I've come across is that he was unhappy with being overlooked for a better contract while newer player were getting signed. I hope he finds somewhere else to play...

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey 2011 -2012

Triumphs is a good place, but you may need to get their early. There is an italian place across from the Nassau Inn that is excellent, but the name escapes me as I get older. There is also Winberry's right around the corner from the Nassau Inn toward the main drag. Favorite of the Princeton players and families over the years.

LT...I will be at Princeton and I would love to meet up with you prior to the game, assuming I get an early enough start. Let me know where you'll be and I will try to find you

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey 2011 -2012

Another great night for the Bulldogs as they gain momentum heading to the playoffs. The record may not be that impressive, but I guarantee you that none of the teams enjoying a weekend off as the ECAC playoffs start will want to face Yale. The new line combinations continue to pay dividends as O'Neill and Miller buzz around the ice making plays, especially O'Neill whose playmaking overshadowed his breakaway goal, if that's possible. Nick Maricic was terrific in goal, with quality saves on a number of grade a chances by Princeton. And Hobey Baker rink never disappoints. Its one of the great college hockey buildings.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey 2011 -2012

Another quality win for Yale tonight! They outworked Princeton most of the night and turned on the forecheck and the jets in the third to put it away. Hobey Baker Rink is very quaint, having been to all ECAC rinks except the north country, I still think Ingalls is the best. Nice to see Licwinko and Dad, CGYF, sorry we missed you. Princeton university and the Town of Princeton are absolutely beautiful. It's a great place for a weekend getaway, wish i could have stayed longer. Home ice next weekend folks, I may be jinxing Yale, but I would rather see them face the teams higher ranked than Brown or RPI.

Everyone thinks his/her own barn is the best, so the real question is: Which one do you like besides home ice?

Having been to all of the ECAC rinks a few times, I think Appleton is up there, right in front of Ingalls and Hobey Baker. I know the Bulldogs don't share a similar sense of rivalry against CCT, but it's a trip worth going, especially if the students are not on break.

Edit: I take back "not having a rivalry with SLU".

Video up on ECAC dot com, the replay of the fourth Yale goal is vintage O'Neil playmaking and was on e of the best goals of the year by Yale. http://www.ecachockey.com/men/index
Looking forward to some revenge on QU tonight, Yale needs to keep the steamroller running. Don't forget playoff tickets for the games at Ingalls next weekend are already on sale.

Not having been up north, I would actually say it is a tie between Dartmouth and Hobie Baker, both neat rinks. I know for customer comfort the "solarium" walkways at Baker are convenient, they could have come up with a more historical looking solution than the greenhouse look. Took a walk to the balcony, it reminded me of Fenway Park lol. I have long standing bias against a rink with one end closed up, I like to be able to walk around the whole place.

Interesting. I actually dislike Thompson quite a bit because it feels so empty even when it's full. To me, the most important factors are viewing angles/closeness to the ice and atmosphere.

Not ranking Lynah, here's where I would put ECAC barns, ignoring rivalries, based on my experiences sitting in the visitors' section, and using a completely subjective and unscientific evaluation method:

1. Appleton
2. Ingalls
3. Cheel
4. Hobey Baker
5. Bright
6. The Bank
7. Messa
8. Thompson
9. Starr
10. Meehan
11. Field House (Great fans, but putting a huge column in front of the visitors' section is unforgivable)

I understand the point about Thompson, you can also get the same feel at The Bank. Being a student of building construction for my job in the fire service, the roof structures of the buildings are what intrigue me most, I would love to see a time lapse video of how they poured the concrete arch at Ingalls. I think Thompson has excellent sight lines and I understand about the empty feeling due to the massive volume of the place.
