Yale Bulldogs Hockey 2011 -2012

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey 2011 -2012

You guys are a scary fast team; hope we don't meet in the playoffs. Brian O'Neill was really impressive with his play. Game could have gone either way. It's tough to lose so many seniors, but Yale looks to be a team that will reload every year under coach Allain. Beat Cornell tonight and make us all happy :)

Well, not all . . . Go Big Red!

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey 2011 -2012

Ouch, I guess the only thing left to hope for this season is some post season play at Ingalls, we need to remain out of the bottom four teams for this to happen. From the videos I have seen it looked like Malcolm had some soft goals this weekend, nice to see wilson play well as his replacement last night. I watched the first period online last night and Cornell is the real deal, big and strong. Firlin is an absolute beast.

Thanks LTsatch. Ferlin is a beast.

Also, I know I'm beating a dead horse here, but I can't believe the amount of hubris that Allain has. According to the recap, he said: "The bottom line is we had to work way too hard for goals, while theirs came much too easily."

There was one soft goal. Cornell dominated the first and Yale couldn't muster any kind of coordinated offense in the second. It would be much more accurate to say that his team didn't work hard enough off the ice than to blame luck.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey 2011 -2012

After listening to Coach Allain's pre-game interview with Cornell radio, I have to say that he is a strange duck. Unlike virtually every other opposing coach, he made no effort at all to be personable. His responses were like pulling teeth: just the absolute minimum to acknowledge that a question had been asked. As a listener, I was uncomfortable because his responses seemed to indicate that he was being tortured and only answering under duress. Only the final thank you seemed normal, seemingly because he was being released from further torture.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey 2011 -2012

I don't think he was calling those goals lucky, he was calling them savable. You get some easy goals if the goalie is having an off night. Even the ECAC reporter called two of them "soft". I interpret the quote as "Cornell defended well, our goalie sucked" You guys won the game, stop rubbing salt in the wound. BTW is there a Cornell season thread?

No, pretty much all of the Cornell Hockey discussions take place on the eLynah Forum. A single USCHO thread would be way too unwieldy by the end of first month.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey 2011 -2012

Who else is predicting a goalie change for the Bulldogs this weekend? The shortie against Cornell may have been the proverbial straw.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey 2011 -2012

Well, he went to Maricic and quickly came back to Malcolm. So that tells me he doesn't have a lot of faith in Maricic, although, to be fair, he didn't play badly against SLU. You'd have to think that with Wilson coming into the Cornell game mid-stream, he would get a chance to show what he can do in a full game, so, yes, I think we will see Wilson start on Friday.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey 2011 -2012

Even though we are so far down the standings, Friday nights game with Dartmouth is very important due to our tie in the standings with them. It could be the make or break game for home ice in the play in round. not sure if Allain would put that much pressure on Wilson, but as we have seen in the past, there is no predicting what Allain will do when it comes to starting goalies.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey 2011 -2012

I guess the goalie choice will depend on whether Allain has lost faith in Malcolm or not. Don't forget, he started Rondeau against UND after he rode the bench all season. So its not like the coach isn't capable of a wild card.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey 2011 -2012

I think we will see two close games this weekend, I saw Yale at Harvard this year and that game could have gone either way, hopefully home ice gives Yale a leg up, Dartmouth, like Yale, is an enigma this year, but I am predicting a tight one with them as well.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey 2011 -2012

Let's hope for six full periods of effort and focus from the Bulldogs. Any updates on Kevin Peel's status? We could use his leadership this weekend.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey 2011 -2012

I have two extra tickets for tonights game vs. Dartmouth. Aisle 9 row 5 , these two tickets are FREE to whoever wants them. PM your name and I will leave them at will call. Yale or Dartmouth fans are eligible. If I don't read anything here by 5:30 I will hand them to someone walking up to the ticket window.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey 2011 -2012

A hard earned win for Eli tonight. Dartmouth was well matched with Yale and scored their goals on counterpunch odd man rushes that caught Yale short on D. One DU goal was a result of a Yale defender getting too aggressive offensively and leaving his post to a forward who got smoked by the resulting rush by DU. Maricic played an outstanding game in net. He needs to stop making believe that he can play the puck other than just stopping it behind the net. Everytime he wanders it is an adventure. The entire team as a unit played very hard and it showed on the scoreboard. Nice to see Peel back on the ice, he took what looked like limited shifts. great game by Yale, we need this four point weekend and we need to BEAT HARVARD!!!!!!!!

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey 2011 -2012

This was the best game I've seen the Bulldogs play this year. The forecheck was very strong tonight from all lines, but especially the Limbert-Ziegler-Brockett line who were relentless all night. I like the change up that had O'Neill and Miller on different lines, at least at first, although as the game wore on they appeared to play together more. I agree about the defensive lapses, but given the aggressive style that Yale continues to play, that will happen from time to time. And I thought Maricic was solid all night. His play behind the net is always an adventure, but he looked more confident tonight than I have ever seen him. He made most of the saves look effortless and only allowed one bad goal (the third). This game was huge in the standings. A win against Harvard tomorrow night (very achievable IMO) will put the Bulldogs in good shape to gain home ice in the first round.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey 2011 -2012

Nice win for Eli on national TV last night. Good luck against Cantabs tonight!

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey 2011 -2012

Wow! What a win tonight against Harvard. Most impressive was the relentless fore-check, even in the latter part of the 3rd period, when the outcome was not in doubt. Very good move separating Miller and O'Neill. Both look terrific. Miller is benefiting from the space that's created with O'Neill not on the ice. He is able to create plays, which is his strength, and feed Agostino and Lags. Root is playing much better with O'Neill on the wing, and O'Neill has the space to create, which he did so impressively all night, without Miller occupying space. Also outstanding was Limbert, who played the best two way game of any Yale forward this year. With this 4-point weekend, Yale is looking good for hosting a 1st round playoff series. They have to win at least one of the two remaining games though. A goose-egg on the upcoming weekend would likely put them on the road, but I don't see that happening with the way they're playing now.

I couldn't make it to the game tonight, but whomever had the idea to combine Lags, Agostino, and Miller is a genius. I wish we could've discovered this magic line combination earlier in the season!
