Yale Bulldogs Hockey 2011 -2012

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey 2011 -2012

I have been to Ingalls, Meehan, Hobey, Bright, The Tute Field House, and, of course, Lynah. Meehan is terrible. It has good sight lines, but its unusually cold in the building and there is zero atmosphere. The Field House is a good venue, but its marred by the aforementioned column. Lynah is no architectural masterpiece (that's an understatement) but the atmosphere in that building is the best in the ECAC and maybe the best in the country. Bright is aptly named. The lighting in that building is brighter than any arena I have ever been in and the sight lines are good. Hobey is poorly lit in comparison, but its tiny size makes the atmosphere intimate and the sight lines are also good. Ingalls is the architectural gem of the league (maybe the country) and has terrific sight lines.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey 2011 -2012

Almost forgot. Have also been to The Bank multiple times. Its too loud, too bright (almost blindingly so) and the non-stop cheesiness of the announcements and promotions between periods remind me of the worst pro arenas. Its just not the kind of atmosphere you would expect in a college arena.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey 2011 -2012

Good effort tonight by Yale. QPac also played well. These two teams are evenly matched from what I saw. Very encouraged by Maricic's play. He leaves rebounds but he stops the puck. Looks like Yale will be the 6 or 7 seed, which has them playing either Princeton or RPI.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey 2011 -2012

Update: The Bulldogs will be playing RPI. This will be a tough match up. The 'tute has a hot goalie and they have played significantly better in the 2nd half of the season

CGYF, you have it wrong, due to RPI's rise from the ashes the past two weeks they passed Princeton, so Yale plays Princeton, which is a much better first round match up.

Yale earned the sixth seed over the past two weekends by playing hard and riding Maricic like a rented mule, he was fantastic tonight. I am still mad about the puck laying on the doorstep at the end of regulation. Two goal game by Root with an excellent shorthanded tally. Yale uncharacteristically took too many stupid penalties, which hindered their attack in this game, they were on their heels to often and tired trying to kill said penalties. Langanierres ejection was another case of a tall guy hitting a shorter player hard. I believe he is still eligible for next week unless the ECAC does something. Nice finish to the regular season by the Eli, lets continue it all the way to the Convention Center.

Sixth seed? Well, I guess that means that there will be hockey at the Whale on Friday!

Tall guy hitting a short player? He jumped into the hit! He jumped into the hit, and targeted the head.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey 2011 -2012

I jumped the gun on predicting Yale's first round opponent. I see that the standings were updated after I made that call and Yale apparently had a tiebreaker over Clarkson. I'm not sad about missing RPI. That team is going to be a tough out. It wouldn't surprise me at all to see them advance against Clarkson.

Re, the major penalty against Lags, he didn't target the head. I watched the game on SNY and its clear in the replay that he never would have contacted the head if there hadn't been a 4 inch height difference with the Qpac player. Having said that, I agree that Yale took far too many stupid penalties. That's one of the weaknesses of their game, and they need to get that fixed or their late season surge will fall short.

Re Maricic, he has been fantastic in this 4 game stretch. He looks calm and confident, which when coupled with his obvious talent, makes him tough to beat.

I was watching it too. I guess we'll have to agree that we must have been watching a different game. The kid jumped into the hit. He left his feet and made direct contact with the head. If that's not targeting the head, I don't know what is.

The height difference doesn't matter as it's his responsibility to stay clear of the head. I haven't seen a replay and wasn't watching where /when the hit was made but the ref was immediate and emphatic with the call, usually a good sign that the hit crossed the line (even if it was Chip McDonald). Langanierre was involved in a couple of other hits (uncalled) prior to the CTH that were borderline IMO. He was clearly trying to intimidate our smaller guys with his size and it cost him.

He jumped to avoid the hit. The call was legit--Lags's gloves contacted Currie's head first, but that was Lags trying to jump out of the way. If he hadn't Currie would've been fuct. Lags has learned to play big this year, but he does not play dirty.

I'm still trying to figure out that Agostino roughing call

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey 2011 -2012

The Q guy should have gotten five for attacking the Yale player in the Yale penalty box as well. Haven't seen a move like that since my Nighthawk days.

What game were you watching? Hibbeler was literally thrown into the box by Brockett. The initial hit by Limbert that preceeded all that was clearly well after the whistle and even a bit high and wasn't called a major. Tempers were starting to run high at that point.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey 2011 -2012

One section over from you, according to your signature. This was the type of games that further rivalries, we can argue all day about who hit who how and will always see our teams through rose colored glasses. It was a great night for hockey in the New Haven area. I was especially impressed by the Perotti charity fund raiser in the lobby and the contribution to the 9/11 fund by the students. Good luck in the playoffs.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey 2011 -2012

For those who purchased playoff tickets last week, they may have dates for the weekend of March 9. I spoke to the ticket office and tickets with the incorrect dates will be honored this weekend at Ingalls.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey 2011 -2012

Anybody know what is going on with Dueck? Missed both games this past weekend.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey 2011 -2012

I would be shocked if Dueck was indeed a healthy scratch this past weekend. He has been a solid defenseman this season , even if the Dartmouth game wasnt his best.
I know Coach likes to do some crazy things, but sitting a solid junior defenseman for a freshman playing in his first game is way out there.

I had heard from another fan that he was hurt, Yale only went with five defense last weekend, maybe Allain is trying to add offensive depth

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey 2011 -2012

Yeah, they played Ward as a dman...no way Dueck was healthy.

Regardless though, Yale has watched up well with Princeton this season. If they can contain Princeton's top line with Calof I can't imagine how Princeton could take a three-game series from Yale.
