I watched part of that game. It was brutal. I assume they continued running up the score because of the goal differential used as tie-breakers in these tournaments.

I'm hoping there are better teams, since the whole purpose of Team USA going with D3 players instead of club players was because USA Hockey wanted a better result this year.

But it still makes you wonder how Great Britain even qualified for this tournament.

If Utica had a couple players on this team - WHICH THEY SHOULD - you would be all about it.

How many kids ever get to play on a national team of any sort? Belittling that experience is just petty.

You admitting that Utica players were good enough to be on the team is the nicest thing you have ever said to anyone here. New year, new Sir Nubs.

I will say I think its a tough call for coaches/players. It is a good experience, but every game of the short D3 season is so crucial. Drop a couple while your top players are playing in a feel good tournament and all of a sudden you are on the outside looking in at the end of the year.
 
As a Hobart fan , I am excited that Coach Taylor decided to coach this team. We may be without him and our 2 best players for 2 weekends. It sounds like a great experience for the participants and , hopefully our remaining coaches and team will circle the wagons and hold the line with 4 more wins.

Norwich could be without two of its best offensive weapons Clark Kerner and Phil Elgstam for five games if USA and Sweden make the medal round.

There are good players in a lot of places. On teams that are perennial national contenders and on teams that aren't.

Winning your AQ is the only guarantee anyone has to get into the NCAA Tournament. Last I checked all these guys will be playing in their conference tournaments, barring injury.

If you win your games during the regular season it gives you a second chance at a bid, though.
 
Saw on Twitter the United States is 2-0 after last night. It was also good to see St. Norbert win two tough games even though they were shorthanded, which is what perennial national powers do. Go and find a way no matter what.
 
USA lost to Slovakia yesterday 5-2, hopefully they can beat Hungary and Kazakistan this week to make it to the medal round this weekend.
 
USA makes it to the finals tomorrow, defeating Japan in OT, with Canada being the likely opponent. I assume that game will also be on ESPNU.
 
Great showing by the No.6 seed Team USA to win the silver. Team Canada had seven NHL draftees on their team. Thanks to all the D3 teams that participated and weakened their regular season roster for a couple of weeks. Hobart lost to Elmira Saturday( Coach Taylor's alma mater) and will likely lose the #1 ranking this week, but it was definitely worth the experience for Coach Taylor, Sophomore forward Aquaro (who led the team USA in scoring) and sophomore defensemen Swift, as well as our sports trainer assistant. Got to see quite a few of the talented D3 players , many of whom are destined for the playoffs.

This is the problem I have with this tournament. There is no consistency on how each country fields their team. And that also goes from bi-year to bi-year.

But, it was still fun watching some of the games and seeing players I'm very familiar with participating.

With all the announcer talk about Adrian, it would have been nice to at least mention that the DIII championship game was against Peter Morgan's Geneseo.

Not even consistency between USA’s men’s team and women’s team, though that’s not really their fault entirely; From what I’ve heard, they tried to get current athletes from Plattsburgh, Middlebury, Elmira, etc., but the coaches said “no” across the board, whereas the DIII men’s coaches almost universally embraced this as a good opportunity for the athletes involved. The end result for the USA women was a roster primarily made up of 2022 graduates who aren’t actively playing anymore, so weren’t anywhere near mid-season shape.

is that an excuse for a 5th-place finish that saw them miss out on the trip to Lake Placid? Not really - recent DI graduates should still be able to play at a high level - but it definitely contributed.
