World University Games

Because in successful programs it is about the growth and development of young people and the quality of experience they get. Especially at the D3 level. It's what separates the real from the phony. Even in D1 coaches let guys go to World Juniors. Why? Because at the end of the day it's about giving the guys as many positive experiences possible, which goes a long way in recruiting.

Adrian has three players going to play in this tournament. They are currently in the Pool C mix as it stands. Apparently Adam Krug isn't too worried about any potential hiccups either.

I'm sure everyone who plays in this tournament will remember it much more strongly than some series against LebVal.

Could not agree more, its all about the experience....best of luck to team USA

This is a once in a lifetime experience for most of these kids. None of them are going to play for team USA at the Olympics or any other international competition. You really think the players didn’t all jump at the chance to walk out onto that rink in Lake Placid in a USA sweater? Who cares if it’s a competition most of us had never heard of before, you want to be on that ice in a USA sweater where the best moment in USA hockey happened.

You better hope they make the semi-finals, considering all of their games are at Cheel Arena an hour and a half away from Lake Placid. Experience is great, but not sure at the expense of a bad loss where it costs you the season. I hope they do well, I think they will be up against it looking at the Canada roster.

It seems like the most disadvantaged teams would be those with a goalie participating. Other teams will certainly be hurt by the absence of a top player, but it's much more likely to have a forward/d man of similar caliber that can fill in than to have a goalie of similar caliber.

You would think USA could finish in the top 2 on their pool and get to Lake Placid.

As for "costing them the season," win the conference tournament and you have nothing to worry about. Last I checked that gets played in late February and early March.

Not being familiar with the World University games, why is this the first year DIII players have been invited to teams?

Certainly not a given. Just looking at the last tournaments results Kaz and Slovakia look like they bring strong teams. Kaz went 5-0 in pool play and Slovakia went 4-0-0-1

They used to always use club hockey players.

I suspect because these games for the winter have never been hosted in North America. And since it's during the season -- as opposed to World Juniors which is between semesters even though some teams play some games at that time -- teams weren't willing to let players go for the extra time it would take when you consider international travel, during that part of the season.

Plus, since USA is hosting, USA Hockey may have put some extra pressure on to field a stronger team than in the past when using club players.

always a positive spin on things eh Fish.....If ya don't have anything nice to say..............

You got me there, Drafty. I suppose I'd try to look in if a couple of Utica guys were playing.

(Possibly, on a slow night, anyway.) :P

If Heenan had allowed his players to play many of you Utica fanboys would be paying rapt attention next week.

Maybe a little, but- face it - this is the lowest level of international hockey, and nobody is watching.

D-3 garners more attention than this event, and nobody watches D-3, either....

I haven't heard a word about Heenan forbidding his guys to go. Where did you get that s***?

Have somebody explain the PW to you, then get back to us regarding mighty SNC, and the two guys of theirs who bear the standard for this completely ignored event.

Angry again. Always angry. I can't imagine what it must be like to be so consistently miserable. Maybe somebody should explain what it's like to win more than one NCAA Tournament game in your history and that would turn your frown upside down. Dare to dream and you'll feel better.

Anyway, according to SNC Twitter the United States drilled Great Britain 18-0. Brendan Mark is captain and scored a goal. Michael McChesney did not score. Slovakia beat Hungary 4-0 and Adam Stacho did not score.

I heard the same thing. What a great opportunity for these kids to leave mid-season and beat up on Junior B teams 18-0. They put up 81 shots! Sounds like a waste of time.
