US Open Cup Final between Miami and Houston is tonight. Looks like Messi will probably won’t play though. It’s on Paramount+ at 8:30p ET.

What's been the deal with ManU the past several years? It can't all be the departure of SAF.
4 managers since 2021.
Ronaldo acting like a punk b*tch.
The Super League fiasco turned off prob all the fans.
I think the league caught up with them.
Granted there's def other issues.

Houston won BTW. Messi did not play and likely won’t play this weekend either.

Inter Miami did, predictably, increase their ticket prices for next season. It includes the field level suites being priced at $45k. Predictably, the press is running “INTER MIAMI WILL HAVE THE MOST EXPENSIVE TICKETS IN ALL OF FOOTBALL!!!” headlines. The Europeans on r/soccer are going “OMG, the Americans are getting fleeced! Capitalism strikes again!” Meanwhile, the discussion on r/MLS is a more sane “Outside of the ridiculous field suites, most tickets are in line with other places in MLS.”

I don’t watch the PL much but it’s hilarious reading the news about the Liverpool-Tottenham match and the very obvious referee screw up. It’s been very obvious that England has been very flippant in their attitude about VAR and the protocols and whatnot so it’s not surprising to see it finally bite them.

France’s Ligue 1 attempting to entice American broadcasters with matches played in the US.

So first off, it’s apparently not league matches. It’s supposedly some sort of cup competition.

Here’s the big thing and the dirty secret that sports media in this country really tries to hide:

European soccer isn’t really popular in this country. Some European soccer teams are popular in this country and the ratings reflect that. Juventus and Milan get decent ratings, the rest of Serie A does not. Barcelona and Real Madrid get good ratings, the rest of La Liga does terribly. Bundesliga? Does terribly if it’s not Bayern or Dortmund. Even the Premier League has a drastic difference in ratings between matches that feature Liverpool, City, and Man Utd versus matches that don’t. The Champions League does well because those matches will almost always have one of the above teams.

The Premier League has somewhat been able to get past this because a) sheer financial power (lower PL are regularly outspending even top European teams) b) it’s in English and c) Comcast throwing nearly everything they have behind them.

The reality of things is that the most popular league in this country is Liga MX, it’s just that 99% of its audience speaks Spanish so, according to the media, it doesn’t count. The Premier League is a good second, the above teams are probably third and MLS is fourth. And the gap between 3 and 4 is a lot smaller than one would think.

USMNT lost a friendly to Germany on Saturday 3-1.

Something something Fire Berhalter. Something something vast MLS conspiracy.
