So the Costa Rica game essentially becomes the second leg of a two leg tie and the US has a 5-0 lead. Score a goal and the mountain gets higher for them.

So the US can still end up as a Pot 1 seeded team if…

They beat Costa Rica
Portugal loses to North Macedonia
Mexico loses or draws v El Salvador
The Netherlands ties or loses v Germany

“I should look at Defector and see what they wrote about the game last night”
*sees Billy Haisley*
”Ugh, comments I guess…”
*sees “Gregggggggggg” and “US should hire Koeman”*

I hate the internet.

Do you pay for that?

Good god, does Gregggg write for them? Has Drew had another heart attack?
I do not for the precise reason of I will never, ever willingly give money to Billy Haisley.

”Gregggggg” is what Berhalter haters use to derisively refer to Berhalter. It’s a bit like seeing a “let’s go Brandon”, you know immediately to leave the conversation because that person is an idiot whose opinions won’t be changed no matter what happens.

Didn’t Drew have a hematoma or something like that?

Everything but Mexico sounds plausible.
Yeah, El Salvador started out qualifying as an interesting watch. It’s now gone off the rails.

Honestly, C. Ronaldo (there’s only one Ronaldo and he’s not Portuguese) will drag Portugal to another World Cup appearance so it doesn’t matter too much.

Also, it’s amazing how much going to seeded pots changes the draw. You go from regional based pots where you could easily escape better teams like the US or Japan in favor someone like (in this case) Canada or Saudi Arabia or an Ecuador instead of Ghana.

Pot 2 at this point looks almost as bad as Pot 1: Germany, Netherlands, Switzerland, plus likely the US and Mexico.
